Why?

Angel We pulled up to Port Sand or at least what was supposed to be the port. Everything is burnt and abandoned. I looked at Skylar and she was as nervous as I am. We jumped off the ship and ran for where the building should be that we needed. It took a little bit but we found the ruins that were once the building that would hide what we were looking for. I dropped to my knees and started digging through the rubble to uncover the basement door that was still intact. Skylar had taken what I had moved and moved it further away so I didn't get reburied in this mess. After what felt like an hour, we had uncovered the door and we bashed through it like a couple of rogues. It was dark and dusty but I could still see Skylar's hair through it all. She bent over a chest and opened it. "Got it" She declared as she stood up and walked to the door and the light. Sure enough, she had it in her hands, so we both went back to the ships to find the men were looking through other buildings to see if they could find anything useful. Leo and Seth walked over to see what it was that we were after. "Is that a matchbox?" Leo asked. "Yes, but not just any matchbox." I responded. I turned and walked up the gangway to where we keep the devil statue and picked it up. I aligned the statue and the box and with a click they came together. The jewels on the box sparkled in the sunlight and it was mesmerizing. Once I set them down, we heard a commotion outside. Seth and Leo ran outside and I walked behind them. It was some guy who was throwing punches at the crew. "Get away from here, this is all my stuff." The mysterious dude was yelling. I looked at Seth and Leo to see if they knew who this person was and no sign of recognition came from them. So I looked at the guy and asked "Do you live here? Do you wish to remain here? This place is just ash and it won't be used again as a port for some time. It might take years to get supplies to make this place sustainable again if it even happens." "Are you offering to take me on one of your ships to somewhere else? Or become part of your crew? I will not be a pirate, but I don't see myself being able to live here much longer, and you are the first ship I have since being dropped off by the last ship I was on." The guy started rambling. "We can drop you off at Port Reborn, that is our next stop." The guy nodded his head and grabbed my arm for an agreement. Seth "He can stay on my ship" I offered, as I don't like the idea of a strange man being near my woman. Not that she can't handle herself, it just makes me feel like I am protecting her if I'm watching him. Angel nods and calls the women to the ship, my men look to me and I nod. Then I turned to the man and gave him my name. "I am Dan". I introduced him to Rex, who showed him where he could stay. Once everyone was onboard, we pulled out of the port. When we were coasting out on the ocean at the same speed, we stayed level with each other with Skullfully yours in the middle. Leo and I grabbed ropes and jumped to Angel's ship. Angel came down the stairs and nodded at both of us. Leo crossed his arms and gave Angel a look. She took it in stride and pulled a paper out of her pocket. It was a map of the coast of one of the mainlands we visited a year before we became a fleet, so I recognized it. It seemed Leo hadn't been out that long as he was still trying to figure it out. "Do we have to?" I asked her. Leo looked surprised as he understood that I not only knew where we were going but understood the story behind it. "Technically, we aren't going to it, just the two ports that surround it", Angel informed us. "OKAY, I am lost." Leo declared. Angel pointed to Port Berne on the map and asked if he had heard the story. He hadn't, so I groaned and walked away as she launched into the humiliating story of what happened there. Watching the sky and the water passing by, I soon got bored and walked behind Angel and wrapped my arm around her as she was telling the story and started swaying to my favorite song I had stuck in my head. By the time she was finished, Leo was shocked and embarrassed for the idiots. She said the plan was to drop Dan off at Port Reborn, then go to Port Tryagain. They had another layer of the base for the statue. If we can put the entire statue together, it's supposed to unlock a secret cave that has a hidden civilization that holds the secrets of the world. I have only found this out recently as she let me borrow her book on it. It was a f******d but I don't think it will end as she is hoping it will. The book is pure fiction. But I do have to confess there are a lot of coincidences going on. Like how she's able to find everything as if it is being handed to her on a silver platter. I am very confused about this woman and I love every minute of it. Leo grabbed a rope and went back to tell Virgo and his crew of what he had learned. I pick Angel up with one arm and she clings to my side. I waved to Skylar in the wheelhouse and grabbed the rope, then Tarzan swung to my ship with Angel laughing but gripping tighter to my shirt. After I stuck the landing, I didn't put Angel down but carried her back to my room. "You can put me down, caveman." Angel joked. I laughed and dropped her on the bed. I then took my shirt off and dropped it on the floor. Angel looked at the map that was still in her hand. She kept studying it as if she felt she was missing something, so I sat next to her and looked at the map as well. "What's the matter?" I asked. "Well, with what my parents have told me and my books state there is supposed to be a passage back here by the mountain but the mountain is in the wrong section of the map to allow for the passage they talk about. Something isn't adding up. I am going to have to talk to the locals. I don't think this job will be as easy as the others have been." she aired out. I looked at the map for a few more minutes and decided she was right. We were going to have to be careful with this one.
