Marlie's POV I rubbed my eyes groggily as I sat up in my bed, looking at the clock; it was almost noon and I had just now woken up. I looked down to see I was still wearing the same dress that I wore to the club last night, I forgot to change before passing out. My phone was buzzing under my pillow and I picked it up, answering the unknown number without a second thought. "Hello, love." "Damian?" I stood up and stretched, walking over to look out the window. "How did you get my number when I didn't give it to you?" "I have my ways." He replied simply, his tone giving me chills. What does he mean he has his 'ways'? Were my dad and brother right about him? I am not sure what to think, all I know is that I am a little creeped out by the fact that he somehow got my number. "Right." I managed to say without my voice faltering. "So my love, when can I come to pick you up?" Damian asked, sounding a little impatient. "I can't wait to have you living with me in my pack." "I am not sure," I mumbled. "I need to figure things out." He already wanted me to move in with him? I knew werewolf relationships moved fast but I had only just met him. "Do that soon." He commanded me, making me frown. "I have to go, I'll call you again soon." He hung up the phone and I tossed mine over to my bed. What the hell? I rubbed my face, heading towards my bathroom to shower. I have a lot of things to figure out today. After showering and getting dressed, I slipped out of the house, unnoticed by my family members. It was a Saturday, meaning that all the wolves in the pack were around, but I didn't care if I was seen anymore, I was a girl on a mission and nothing was going to stop me. I started on the long walk further into the packgrounds, determined to find the answers I needed. I slipped into the packhouse, trying to avoid any people so they wouldn't question what I was doing, and wandered around. I remember Carter mentioning that the packhouse had a library in it, but I didn't realize how big this building was. It was less of a house and more like a small hotel! I ended up entering the kitchen where I found several werewolves, whom I assume to be omegas, hustling around to get lunch ready for the pack. At this point, I had been walking around in circles for twenty minutes, so I decided that I might as well ask for help. "Excuse me," I spoke up and all the Omegas froze and looked at me cautiously. "Can one of you please point me in the direction of the packhouse library?" "Who are you?" One of them growled, stepping closer to me and sniffing the air around me. "My name is Marlie, I am the daughter of Garrett and Jaime." I put my hands up, careful not to seem threatening. "Carter is my older brother," I added to make sure that they would trust me. Werewolves would be protective of their pack, so it didn't surprise me that they were acting the way they were. "You do faintly smell like Carter." The Omega in front of me relaxed into a non-threatening stance. "Go back out the door you just came in from and walk to the end of the hallway and then turn left. It will be three doors down on the right side. If you are taking a book home with you, just write your name and the date on the paper by the door." She turned and went back to the others who had continued to cook after they decided that I was not going to attack them. I am surprised that they all relaxed into my presence so easily; I thought werewolves were more cautious than that, but I guess I was wrong. I found my way to the library and quickly walked up to the many shelves of books. I am not sure exactly what I am looking for; all I know is that I want to know anything and everything about my mate. I searched the books for several minutes before a voice from behind startled me. "Marlie, I didn't expect to be seeing you here." I quickly spun around and lowered my head down respectfully. "Alpha." I acknowledged him. "I didn't realize anyone else was in here." "Nobody was in here other than you before I arrived. One of my Omegas linked me saying someone she had never seen before was in the library and I came to see who it was." He said as I lifted my head, still not making eye contact with him. I guess that is why they weren't so worried, the Alpha would be taking care of the issue for them. "I'm sorry if I caused you trouble, Alpha. I was just trying to see if I could find any information on someone." I apologized, nervous that I was going to be punished. "No, it's no trouble at all. It's been a while since I have been over to your house; I've been meaning to come and see how you and your mother are doing." He placed his hand on my shoulder. The Alpha visited our house every once in a while to eat dinner with us to check up on how we were doing and such, but it had been some time since his last visit, as he said. "Who are you trying to find information on?" "A-alpha Damian." I looked up at his face cautiously. He tilted his head to the side some and I realized I would need to explain more. "He's my mate." I saw a look of concern flash across his features before they returned to normal again. "You won't find any information on him in here, but how about you stay for lunch and I can tell you anything you want to know about him?" "Lunch? With the wolves?" I whispered, forgetting that he would hear me anyway. "I'll have it sent up to my office so that it can be just you and me." He patted my shoulder and I looked at him thankfully. Alpha Caleb began leading the way out of the library and I followed him, keeping my head down, trying not to catch anyone's attention. Luckily, everyone was already in the dining hall, so we didn't bump into anyone on the way to the elevator. When we reached the office, he invited me to sit down with him as I began to explain everything that had happened since I found out Damian was my mate. "So he treated you well in person yesterday evening., however, today, he spoke to you in a harsh tone." Alpha Caleb gathered as the Omega from before brought in our lunch and he motioned for me to begin eating as he took a bite of his food. "Sadly, I can't say I'm surprised." "So, you agree with my dad and Carter then?" I asked between my own bites. "For the most part, yes," Alpha Caleb said. "However, if you still want to be with him, then I don't agree with them on keeping you both apart; that will just make the situation worse." "I think I need to know more about him first, like is he really a bad person? I know what you guys say, but I just find it hard to believe that with how he treated me." "I don't believe anyone truly is a bad person. People just act the way they believe fit and that might not always be the best way in others' opinion." Alpha Caleb seemed to be telling me the truth, but I still didn't fully understand exactly what he meant. "Can you tell me more about him?" I bit my lip, not sure if I really wanted to learn more or not. "When Damian took over as Alpha at the young age of sixteen, just after his parents both passed away, he instantly became very aggressive towards everyone. We all thought it was just his way of coping with his parents' death and he would soon calm down and start working with other Alphas, but he never has. He's now twenty-three and getting more ruthless every year. I don't understand where all of this came from because his dad was the exact opposite when he was Alpha; he was truly the best Alpha I have ever met. We were all sad to hear about his passing." Alpha Caleb closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions at bay, but I could still see the pain in his eyes. "I can't even imagine what it must've been like for him, not only did he lose both his parents, but he also had to take on that kind of responsibility at such a young age." I pointed out. "It had to have been hard on him." "Yes, but it doesn't excuse his behavior. If he wasn't an Alpha then he would have been imprisoned long ago for his actions, however, since he is an Alpha and we have no real evidence that each of his actions wasn't in protecting his pack, even though we all know he acts completely irrational about any situation that arises for him, nobody can do anything about it." He paused for a moment to think. "Honestly, I am surprised that he didn't just take you home with him the second he found you. My only thought is that he might've been trying to avoid scaring you so that you wouldn't leave him." "All of this is just so confusing and overwhelming." I groaned. "I'm not a wolf; I don't understand all of this mate stuff. I never even expected to have a mate." "Maybe that is something you can talk to your mother about as she would be the one who would know best what you are going through." Alpha Caleb said as he picked up my plate and stacked it with his on the side of the desk. "I guess you are right, I just don't know what to do about Damian if he is really as bad as you say he is," I mumbled under my breath, pulling my buzzing phone out from my pocket. "Speak of the devil," I answered the phone, slowly lifting it to my ear. "Hello, love." Damian's deep voice gave me butterflies, despite how scared I was of him at the moment. "Have you decided when I can come to get you and bring you home?" "It's only been a few hours, Damian. I haven't even talked to my parents yet." I murmured. "They aren't exactly your biggest fans, you know." "They don't need to have a say in this," Damian stated simply. "I am coming to pick you up in 2 days." "Two days?" I gasped. "You don't even know where I live." "You are Marlie Robertson, the daughter of Garrett and Jaime Robertson of White Moon pack." He said it like it was completely obvious. "How the hell-" "As I told you before, I have my ways." Damian interrupted me. "Be ready in two days because I will be there to take you to your new home." He hung up and I slowly pulled my phone away from my ear, slightly shaking from his tone. "Looks like he isn't going to be as sweet to you as you originally thought." Alpha Caleb said, and I glanced at him with confusion. "I'm sorry to eavesdrop, it's hard not to with my advanced hearing." I nodded my head carefully, wondering why I don't have advanced hearing since I do have a stronger sense of smell than 'normal' humans. "Do you think he will hurt me?" I whispered, fear lacing my voice. "I doubt he will, the mate bond will cause him just as much, if not even more pain to him if he does." Alpha Caleb stood up, motioning for me to do the same. "Come, your brother is looking for you. I'll escort you back downstairs."
