A biker driving erratically, a car that tries to avoid him, a tram hit and derailed by the car. Then she opens her eyes. Three hours and eleven minutes appear in big red-glowing numbers of the alarm clock over her bed-side table.
"Not again", she mutters annoyed.
Lara has grown tired of having to deal with her potential death every single day for the past six years. Many would call it a gift. She calls it a curse.
Lara grabs her phone and makes a detailed description of her dream. She's never been great memorising details, and that's why the first time she saw her death, her notes saved her.
"A 'bang', a bike, a car and a tram. Move to the other sidewalk at the 'bang'", she repeats while making the note. "Done! Now to sleep", she whispers and rolls back to sleep.
The dream repeats itself again until the noisy alarm clock awakes her.
She stands up quickly to take a shower and get ready for a job interview down town. It's the first serious job interview in three months.
Being unemployed at twenty four years old is not hat she dreamed of.
"It's gotta be perfect", she says while combing her long red hair.
She puts a very small amount of makeup over her white skin, and delineates her small blue eyes to make them look bigger.
Lara walks out of her apartment building and begins the long walk to her interview.
A block away from a big building where the software company that might hire her is, a loud bang catches her attention.
"A bang", she mutters.
Lara immediately walks to the other sidewalk. Takes her phone out of her bag and checks what's next.
"The bike", she says.
Lara sees a guy running on full throttle towards the building she's supposed to go, a guy in a bike gets distracted by it and falls dawn onto the street. A black car avoids the bike, but loses control and hits a tram.
"The tram", she mutters.
The big red tram slams right in the place where Lara was supposed to be standing according to her dream. And old lady gets hit by the tram and dies instantly. Lara sees this in her mind a couple seconds before it happens.
She walks by the dead woman, full of curiosity. A chill runs down her spine. The woman was decapitated. Her head lies a couple of meters away from the tram. But something is wrong. The only remaining eye on the old lady´s head starts following her.
When she tries to move past her line of sight, the heads turns on her own.
"Your life is mine!", a dark voice comes from the old woman's head.
Lara runs for it. Straight to the rotating door of the software company's building.
She stops at the lobby and rearranges her hair.
"Crazy day, huh?", an agitated brown-headed man says to her.
"Indeed it is", she says while trying to catch her breath.
Lara never before experienced what she saw today. For the first time, Death talked directly to her. For the first time in six years, she feels the fear of dying.
