Chapter 3 – The Prophecy Awakens

1871 Words
Queen Seraphine’s face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom as her eyes swept over the shattered remnants of the royal chamber. Jagged shards of polished pink coral were painted with trailing wisps of blue royal blood. Broken tridents lay scattered like useless tinder across the floor while her elite guards men trained to tear sea-beasts apart crawled in the debris, clutching broken ribs and sobbing through shattered jaws. Her emerald eyes burned with a murderous, agonizing hatred. "Kael!" she shrieked, the raw screech tearing through the pressurized water. At the threshold of the massive pearl doors, Prince Kael halted. "You unfilial, pathetic little monster!" Her voice dripped with deep, venomous humiliation, meant to strip him down to the helpless boy he used to be. "Look at me when I speak to you! You are nothing without the crown I permit you to wear!" The entire chamber fell into a suffocating, deadly silence. Kael slowly turned his head. His icy, sapphire gaze met hers for a fleeting second. There was no fear in his expression. No lingering trauma, no desperate plea for a mother's warmth, and no anger. There was only a chilling, absolute indifference. It was a look that reduced her grand tyranny to insignificance. Without uttering a single word, Kael turned back toward the dark corridor, his massive, dark-scaled tail cutting through the water with effortless grace. His heavy, steady movements echoed down the grand hall, each rhythmic pulse a deliberate slap to her absolute authority until the sound faded into the deep silence of the palace. In the hall, the servants dropped their gazes instantly. The air grew thick with terror. A pair of young handmaids trembled so violently that the golden trays in their grip rattled uncontrollably, the fine crystal glassware shattering onto the floor. One collapsed to her knees, her gills flaring in hyperventilation, while another bit her lip so hard blood bloomed into the water to keep from weeping aloud. No one dared breathe. Everyone knew the Queen's sadism. Everyone feared becoming the next outlet for her bruised pride. Queen Seraphine clenched her fists so tightly her long, manicured nails sliced deep into her palms, crimson liquid spiraling into the current. "Impossible..." she rasped, her voice trembling—not with anger, but with the first icy blade of genuine terror. "I raised him with my own hands. I broke his spirit myself..." The cruel, victorious smile she had worn for twenty years vanished entirely. "I carefully fed him poison in every meal. I crippled his mana. I made sure he would remain a brainless, obedient dog who would never dare look up at my throne." For two decades, she had micro managed every breath of his life. Every lesson was designed to teach him inferiority; every mentor was hired to abuse him; every opportunity to shine was ruthlessly stolen and crushed. She had built her absolute empire on the foundation of his forced mediocrity. Yet today... He had decimated her strongest royal legion without raising his heart rate. He had looked at her not as a terrifying sovereign, but as mere dust beneath his fins. For the first time in her bitter, power-hungry life, fear wrapped its cold, clammy fingers around Seraphine's heart and squeezed. Miles away, far beyond the crushing pressure of the sea, night had fallen over the mortal realm. Elena sat on the edge of her sagging mattress inside her tiny, dilapidated apartment. The bitter cold of the rain outside seeped through the cracks in the window pane, raising goosebumps along her pale skin. On the nightstand, resting inside a small wooden jewelry box, the mysterious blue scale she had found by the shore began to vibrate. Suddenly, a brilliant, blinding azure light erupted from the cracks of the box. Elena frowned, her breathing stuttering as a strange, magnetic pull tugged at her chest. "What...?" Before she could reach out, a sudden, agony exploded through the center of her chest. "Ah!" The pain was so violent it tore her off the bed. She hit the hard, frigid floorboards with a dull thud. Her spine arched violently, every muscle in her body locking into rigid, agonizing spasms. It felt as though boiling liquid ice was being violently injected directly into her main artery, bursting through her veins, scorching her internal organs with freezing fire. The boundaries between her mortal soul and something ancient, wild, and aquatic were being violently torn apart. "Aaargh! Stop! Please!" she shrieked, her voice cracking as her fingernails dug wildly into the wooden floorboards, splintering them. Tears poured endlessly from her eyes, burning against her flushed, overheated skin. She curled into a tight, desperate ball, clutching her chest where her heart hammered so violently it felt as if her ribs would snap. Above her, the wooden box shattered into splinters. The scale floated into the air, hovering above her writhing body, pulsing with an ethereal, heartbeat-like rhythm. With every pulse, wave after wave of intense, crushing ocean pressure slammed into her soul. Outside, the sky shattered with thunder. Torrential, unnatural rain hammered the city, as if the sky itself was weeping in agony for her. Inside the dark, suffocating room, the agony refused to yield. One hour passed. Her skin flushed from pale to an unnatural, translucent pearl. Two hours passed. Her gasps grew weak, her vision blurred with red and blue spots as her veins bulged against her skin, glowing with faint azure lines. For three unbearable, torturous hours, Elena wept and screamed until her vocal cords shredded, leaving her producing only dry, breathless gurgles. She felt her very identity melting away, fused to a distant, ocean-bound entity she couldn't comprehend. Then, at the exact mark of the third hour... Thump. The scale emitted one final, blinding flash and settled softly into her trembling, raw palms. The torment vanished instantly, replaced by a sudden, terrifying surge of hyper-awareness. Elena lay shivering on the floor, her chest heaving as cool, crisp air filled her newly transformed lungs. Her eyes, once a simple brown, now carried an unmistakable, shimmering fleck of deep, luminous violet. "What... what is happening to me?" she whispered, her raw voice trembling. She stared at the scale resting in her hands, entirely unaware that the burning agony in her veins was the ancient bond of a aquatic soulmate connection awakening and that her destiny was now irrevocably chained to the dark prince of the sea. Deep beneath the surface, the Ocean Palace glimmered ominously under the eerie light of bioluminescent pearls. Inside a subterranean chamber sealed with ancient, blood bound wards, Queen Seraphine sat at the head of a massive circular table carved from jagged black coral. Only a chosen few stood in the suffocating darkness: The Prime Minister, three ancient, blind seers wrapped in tattered seaweed robes, and two decrepit royal elders whose eyes held the cold wisdom of centuries. No guards were allowed. No servants were alive who knew of this room. The heavy obsidian doors sealed with a final, echoing thud. One elderly seer stepped forward, his clouded, milky eyes fixing on the space above Seraphine’s head. "Your Majesty..." the old man rasped, his voice sounding like grinding stones. "The ancient tides are shifting. The suppressed star has aligned. The prophecy... it is awakening." Seraphine’s hands slammed onto the coral table, her posture rigid with fury. "Speak clearly, old fool! What nonsense prophecy?" The seer bowed his head, unfazed by her fury. "The forbidden prophecy of the Ocean Prince... and the fated mortal woman whose soul holds the key to his absolute, unbridled power." The air in the room temperature plummeted to absolute zero. "No," Seraphine breathed, her face turning ghastly pale. She stood up so abruptly her heavy ironwood throne crashed backward onto the stone floor with a deafening boom. "NO!" she roared, her vocal cords straining as her terrifying aura flared, cracking the surrounding black coral walls. "It cannot happen! I spent twenty years severing his fate! I destroyed the records! I slaughtered the ancient lineages!" Her eyes darted frantically around the room, wild and unhinged. "If those two unite... if he tastes true love, if his bloodline merges with her soul mark... his full divine strength will unlock!" She gripped her head, her breath ragged. "All my years of plotting... my reign... my absolute power... destroyed!" She slammed her fist onto the table again, shattering a section of the black stone to dust. "They must never meet. They must never touch. They must never discover what I did to his father!" The Prime Minister lowered his head, his eyes gleaming with pragmatic cruelty. "What are Your Majesty's commands?" Seraphine slowly forced her posture upright. She adjusted her grand, pearl encrusted collar, her erratic panic hardening into a lethal, sociopathic resolve. "Kael will be bound immediately," she declared, her voice dropping into a cold, terrifying whisper. "Send word to House Nerissa. The Prince will marry Lady Nerissa by the rise of the next moon. We will drain his blood magic into her noble house and leash him forever." A chilling, broken smile slowly curved her lips. "The crown belongs to me," she hissed, her eyes gleaming with dark insanity. "I bled for this throne. I murdered for this sea. And no pathetic mortal girl will steal it from my grip!" A dark, haunting laugh bubbled up from her throat, echoing off the ancient chamber walls until even the elder seers shifted uncomfortably at the raw evil vibrating in her voice. The blind seer whispered softly, "Your Majesty... you cannot kill what destiny has written. If fate has chosen the mortal" "Then I will rip destiny's throat out!" Seraphine screamed, her eyes blazing red. She turned her gaze toward the pitch-black shadows lingering in the corners of the room. "Shadow Guards." The water rippled violently. Four phantom-like figures materialized out of the darkness, their forms shifting like ink in water. Their faces were concealed behind black dragon scale masks, their aura radiating pure, unadulterated death. They instantly dropped to one knee, their hands rested on the hilts of bone-forged daggers. "We await your bloody command, My Queen," they rasped in unison. Seraphine leaned forward, her expression morphing into a visage of ultimate, pitiless cruelty. "Traverse the currents. Go to the human world. Find the mortal woman who bears the trace of my son’s mana." She paused, her voice dripping with absolute death. "Do not just kill her. Flay her soul. Tear her to pieces so small that even the tides cannot remember her name. Silence her... forever." "By your will, Your Majesty." Without another sound, the Shadow Guards dissolved into black mist, shooting through the ocean floor at terrifying speed, racing straight toward the unsuspecting human world to hunt down Elena.
