Holly drops me off at Jacks or Better just before dinner. The farm’s quiet. The guys are gone and most of the horses are already out in their paddocks, enjoying the break from the heat of the day. I watch two of the foals play together and feel my shoulders unlock inch by inch.
Freaking James. He has that effect on me.
Luckily, Jacks or Better has an effect on me too. I take a deep breath of cut grass and horse and home and know I’m going to miss this.
And because James ruins everything, my cell goes off again. I check the screen. Yep, it’s him. I send him to voicemail and tell myself it doesn’t matter, but I can’t shake the irritation.
Maybe I’m not over him?
