“Goodness! Ronnie!” I heard her exclaim as she went back to the other side of the car. Just as I finished throwing up, I felt Alissa’s hand on the back of my neck and a wet paper towel swipe across my mouth. “Thank you,” I panted, still trying to get my breath. “I surely didn’t think there was anything wrong with that sandwich,” she said, “but you must have gotten food poisoning.” I began to feel sharp gravel cutting into my knees and started trying to get to my feet. I was still breathing like I had run a marathon. Alissa lifted under my arm to help me up. “I’ve got to sit down,” I mumbled.
