In the months that followed, the world continued to go through the metamorphosis that was the 1960s. Almost a hundred years since the abolishment of slavery in the United States, black people were still fighting for equal rights. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in October of 1964. I watched the broadcasts on the news and read about it in the papers only to feel a certain kind of shame that he was a minister who made a difference, a man who changed the world, and I was a minister who solicited the masses for money while living a secret life from my family and those who followed me.
