Chapter 14: Vigilant

1122 Words
Ah! There it was. Now it made sense! Roger was stopping her outside the room. He made a bet on her! She put down the rag in her hand, turned around, and looked at John. "Your friend is Roger, right?" asked Jessica.    John frowned. Jessica knew Roger; otherwise, she would not be calling him by his first name.   John nodded, "Yeah, Roger is my friend. Why do you ask?" "So, he's the one that made the bet?"  "Well, no, but he did not believe me and upped the price by ten grand."   Jessica felt disappointment run through her body. Of course, it was nothing but revenge. Why was she getting her hopes up? If he really believes her to be a slut, she will show him what a slut she was. He thinks he is the only one that can have a hold on me!? No, Jessica thought, this time, I am going to take revenge on him. Jessica smiled sweetly, "Well, one night, alright? And I do not want any money."   John was surprised by Jessica's words. He did not think she would give in so willingly. And he was positive that Roger and she had some history. He had seen various emotions run across her face when he mentioned Roger was involved in the bet: disappointment, anger, regret. No wonder Roger was absent-minded in the morning. John was awfully curious to know what happened between them but knew he would not be getting any answers from either of them. If this woman really knew Roger, then why did he want him to sleep with her?        "Well, how about this? What time do you finish your shift? Do you want to go out? We might as well enjoy this!" John smiled though it was subdued. "I'll come to find you after work," Jessica replied curtly. "Hey…listen," John spoke up. "If you don't want to do this, then don't!"  "No, it's okay. I want to," Jessica replied. She was surprised that John had asked her which was a contrast considering they had made a bet on her.        "Are you doing it because of Roger?" asked John curiously. Jessica smiled coldly. "Who knows? Maybe I am."  In fact, she had no idea why she had agreed. Did she really need to degrade herself to take revenge on Roger? Was there a better way? She had no idea.   The truth was she had missed him terribly, but how could she admit that to Roger Richard? That would be him winning the game, and she did not want him to win! _______   Roger had not even stepped into his office when his phone started buzzing. It was a text from John. "LOL! Pay up jerk. I made it. No one is allowed to disturb me tonight."     Roger clenched his cell phone tightly in his hands. Jessica, can any man sleep with you? f**k, Roger muttered and ran his hands through his hair. He was not expecting this! He thought for sure Jessica would deny John's pathetic attempts.     No.   No, he was not going to allow this to happen.   _______   So, when Roger dragged Jessica away from her work in public without hesitation, many people saw. But he paid no heed and Jessica dared not utter a word to avoid a scene. He dragged her to the underground parking lot, barely giving her time to keep up with his fast pace. He pushed her directly into the back seat of the car, making sure that the handle did not hit her head. Jessica thought he was taking her somewhere, but he simply locked the door, took out a cigarette angrily and started smoking. It seemed that he was trying to calm his anger. He was so f*****g strange! Why was he angry now? What did she do to piss him off now?     After Roger finished his cigarette, he climbed in the driver's seat of the car. He was silent for a long while before he spoke.   "Why didn't you refuse John?" Roger asked slowly.     Jessica frowned. This was the reason he made a spectacle out in the lobby!? Did he want to ask her this question? Gosh, he was so messed in the head, Jessica thought. It was obvious that Roger had participated in the bet to test Jessica. "I owe you, don't I? You bet with your friend to humiliate me, and I followed through. So, why are you angry now?" Jessica retorted.     Her calm words upset Roger, "Jessica, if I wanted to humiliate you, there are many other ways to do so. And you would not be able to stand any of them. Do you understand?" Roger replied coldly. Jessica was not afraid of his words. "Do I even have a choice?" asked Jessica.    "No!" replied Roger indifferently.      It seemed the air turned colder a few degrees. She shivered at this man's icy demeanor and confused attitude towards her. What did he want from her? She was getting tired of this cat and mouse game. "You know what, why am I even f*****g arguing with you?" Roger yelled. He suddenly got out of the car and yanked Jessica out. She yelped at his tight grip, and her tears started to leak from her eyes at his rough touch. "Stop, what are you doing!" Jessica breathed out.   He roughly dragged her to another car, opened the door, and threw her in, not caring that her head hit the door panel. "Yo man, what are you doing?" Jessica heard a voice from the front seat, but she was too drained to notice. When was this going to end? She just wanted to go home.   "I've changed my mind. I'll give you a hundred if both you and Antony can f**k her tonight."  ________   "Are you sure?" Jessica was confused by the task she had just received on her 'second' cell phone that she kept on her. She had never doubted or even questioned any task he provided. "Yes," a short reply came from the other end. Jessica heaved a sigh, "Is there any way for me to quit?" "No! You can't." A firm answer refused her. Jessica sighed, "Okay, I will try my best." She had no choice but to accept. Since the day she had decided to marry him three years ago, there was no room for retreat.      Which was exactly why there could never a good ending between her and Roger.      Jessica liked to think she always had been vigilant. However, lately, she had been lost in thought from Roger's behavior towards her to John and Antony. Too many things were swimming in her mind. Maybe this was the reason why she did not even notice Roger standing in front of her.
