Ronald's POV The fire alarm finally cut off, and a thick, humming silence followed us back into the apartment. I let out a heavy sigh. Inside, my chest was still buzzing with adrenaline. Kate had just texted me back. Another full month away on assignment. The apartment was mine. That strip of black tape I'd found in her closet last week had put me on edge for a while, but two careful sweeps later, I'd come up empty.
