Theo Pov
It had been months since he had seen or heard anything about his wife. Initially, he thought he was in luck and would be able to eradicate the situation immediately. He had found out about her flight plans. She was supposed to land in Greece. So quickly got a ticket and chased after her. She wasn't there, she was apparently offered the head of some historical dig or something. The genius thing was her thing, not his. He struggled in school but worked hard to be the best. It sounded like it was a pretty major deal though, especially at her age, to be offered such a position. I can't believe she didn't even mention it. He would have been supportive. Well, thinking back, he wasn't sure if he would or not. He was such a bloody B****** to her their entire lives. Why did it take him until it was too late to see her worth? How spectacular was she, and he didn't even notice? He decided to put his loyalty into a cheating s***. What a fool he was.
Theo and his father had been invited, more like demanding they come over to the Coscove estate. He already knew what they wanted, they wanted him to sign papers ending his marriage. Ha! Fat chance that is ever going to happen, he would have to be forced into it. He would never willingly sign papers. He was on his way now to pick his father up for the occasion. His father was still hard at work, so he was going to be picking him up at the family's firm, something he no longer wanted anything to do with. In fact, he never went back to the firm and had no plans of doing so. The only thing he has on his mind is to find Lexi and fix it. He messaged his dad to let him know he was close but had to stop for gas.
T:Dad be out front in 15. I'm close. I just have to stop for gas.
D:Hurry, we wouldn't want to be late. You have ruined our relationship with that family enough.
T: K
Theo didn't really care what anyone thought of him anymore. The only person that mattered was Lexi. He stopped at the gas station, walking in to pay so he could purchase a burner phone, a new habit of his. Every time he would stop at a gas station, he would try a new number to message and call her from. She never answered, but it didn't stop him from trying. He was so desperate he would only put ten dollars into his tank at a time just to be able to go to the gas station more. He truly was pathetic, he was lovesick for a woman he planned to do terrible things to. He quickly activated his new burner phone and sent a text to her.
T:Please just let me know you are alive and safe!
He knew he wouldn't get a response. Maybe she would eventually be over her heartbreak and answer him back. That was why he kept doing it and would keep doing it until he found her, or she messaged him back. He wasn't at all looking forward to going to the Coscove estate, but it was an eventuality. He was already less than a minute from the firm to pick up his father. He wasn't ever going to divorce her or annul their marriage. If all he could have was a marriage license with her, then so be it, but he wouldn't let go of anything that had to do with her. Not again, the mistakes he made were unforgivable, but he prayed with everything in him that someday she could do just that.
His father had just climbed into the car, and he had hoped for a silent ride but knew he was hoping for a little too much.
"Son you know why they want to see us, don't you?"
" Yeah dad, I'm not stupid, and it's not going to happen. I will never sign anything if it means losing the last of Lexi that I have," Theo yelled.
"Really, are you sure you are not stupid? If you were not stupid, why then did you break that girl's heart and scheme against me and her. You are the most stupid person I know, and then when it all blows up in your face you refuse to let the poor girl go. You just want her now because that harlot you had decided to cheat on you?" His father spat back at him, waving a finger in his face.
Theo didn't really have a comeback. He was in fact an i***t for having done what he did. He took it back though and that was even before he found out what a harlot Candy was. "I changed my mind...before Candy, you know," Theo whispered to his father.
He gripped the steering wheel as hard as he could, almost making his fingers go numb. It was still painful to talk about the Candy thing, and it wasn't even over losing her, which is terrible because he thought he was so in love. It was because he lost a childhood friend. He grew up with Charles just like he had Lexi. The betrayal he felt was gut-wrenching. He wished he had more answers as to how long, when it happened, and why he would betray him, but in the end it wouldn't matter. He lost his best friend, his brother, over a stupid chick that literally destroyed his life. Not that he didn't have part in its destruction, he was willing to take blame for the catastrophe his life had become.
"Son, how about I make you a deal? I will let you have the firm if you just sign whatever papers it is the Coscoves want you to sign and the firm is yours!" His dad interrupted his dark thoughts.
"Wait...what?" Theo asked, coming out of whatever stupor he was in.
"You heard me, sign the papers and the firm is yours. It will help salvage our family relations and public appearance."
"I don't care if you offer me the world dad, I don't want the firm or anything to do with it. I also don't give a rat's behind about family relations or public appearance. I want my wife back. I just want her back. That is all that matters, she is all that matters to me now. I resign by the way, so you will have to find yourself another junior partner. I don't want anything to do with the place that helped me decide on the biggest mistake of my life!" Theo spat.
Well, that was the most honest he had ever been in his life, and it was the truth he didn't care anymore. The only thing that mattered was her and the only thing he could think about was how to find her. If she was safe, is she OK? Her existence and lack of presence literally took over his entire life. It was all he could think about.
"Are you serious son? You can't be, you worked so hard to get where you are. This is a joke!" His father asked him, almost sounding hysterical.
"No dad, I'm dead serious. Nothing but her matters, going to try and do something she would be proud of me for doing and keep looking. She went somewhere, and eventually she will come back. If not, I will travel to the ends of the earth to just see her one more time. I give my life for her, everything I do from here on out will be for her. Keep the firm. It will no longer be able to be used as a bargaining chip against me. Tell the Coscoves it is going to take more than bribes or even threats to get me to let go of Lex!" Theo was so angry he was almost shaking, and they had just pulled up to the estate. He didn't want to be here or see these people, this was all nonsense. The only Coscove he wanted to see wouldn't be there, so this was all pointless!
