Theo POV
He still had no leads or ideas where to look for his wife. He decided he needed to work on himself as well as look for her. He wanted to prove to her after all that he was a better man and had changed and only wanted her. He didn't want to go back to his father's firm. He was done with that and didn't want any connections to it anymore. He was, however, a lawyer, so his job options were simple. He could either open his own office or he could work for the state. He decided he wanted to work in the prosecutors' office. The money would be terrible, but that didn't matter to him. He was actually excited about the prospect. It would be a job that allowed him to help. He wanted to do something good and not even just to win Lexi back, even though that was a big part. No, he wanted to make a significant impact not die and only be known as a Radcliff. His family firm worked for the elite. Their specialty was business law. Nothing he did there helped anyone but his client and himself.
Everything he had he owned out right due to his years of selfishness, so it wouldn't be hard to take the pay cut, he only needed enough to pay for utilities and living expenses. He was on his way down to the prosecutors' office for an interview. Well, they basically offered him the job over the phone, so he was merely going in for the formality of it all. There were some advantages to his name, and even being a better man, he would probably always use its strength if it could help his cause.
He decided to walk instead of driving or even hailing a cab. He figured the time would be good, he would be able to contemplate how everything went so wrong and think about the future. He really hoped that Lexi would come home some day, and he would be able to talk to her and maybe fix what he F***** up! He was excited, though at least as much as he could be, he imagined himself being kissed by Lex every morning before he left for work and coming home to her in the evenings. It was what he wanted more than anything. Maybe she would fly off from time to time doing some kind of archeological stuff. He thought she would have done a great job in Greece. He really wished she had been there. He hoped he hadn't hurt her too badly but, according to her father, he had destroyed her. He would at least try to get his day-dream to come to fruition and, if not, he would still be a better man later, lonely and heartbroken but still better than before.
He walked into the city building to meet with the lead prosecutor. He walked through after going through the security checks and was told the way to the office he needed. He quickly made his way there and, just as he thought it wasn't an interview, more of a welcome aboard. He was even handed several cases to start working on. He was to report officially to the office on Monday. It was Thursday currently, so he had four days to get read up to where he needed to be. In each case, he had to oversee. He was excited both about starting to work and having a distraction. He wasn't going to stop the search for Lexi, but he always wanted to be a better man when she was found, so he needed to multitask to achieve everything he wanted.
With his cases in hand, he then decided he would walk to the library. It was one of Lex's favorite spots growing up, he thought it might help him feel closer to her in some way. He could also get the work he needed to be done and if he needed any reference, a library was the perfect place to find it. He also planned on stopping by a convenience store. It was about time to message his love, maybe this time she would respond. It was doubtful, but he still tried his best to remain hopeful. He was actually starting to prefer his burner phones to his regular one, all that he got was messages from the cheating trollop, his father, and Lexi's dad. None of them he had anything to say to, so he usually kept his normal phone on silent so he didn't have to hear it.
If he could only turn back time and marry her for the right reasons, they would be back and settled living together in wedded bliss. He cursed himself for probably the millionth time, he was the biggest i***t that roamed the earth and he had lost the greatest treasure. He would do anything to have her back and be back with her. He wondered what she was doing and if she even thought about him anymore. H*** she could have already met someone else and moved on, she was gorgeous and brilliant, a total catch. Any man would be lucky to have her, he was the one that had her and, like a complete i***t, ruined it all.
The library was quiet, only a few people randomly throughout, but it was peaceful. He would be able to get everything he needed to do. It also reminded him of all the times Lexi made him bring her here when they were younger. He never understood then her fascination with the library, but now he could. She always had her nose in the middle of some book, none of them ever the same even if he saw her more than once a day. He figured a library would feel like home to her.
That was a perfect plan, he thought. He already planned to get rid of his condo in Manhattan, and wanted to find a nice family home outside the city. He could commute in and if they ever had a family it would be better to raise them outside the city. His house would now need to hold one of the largest private library collections. He would make her own library for when she decided to come home. H*** he would make the entire home a library with books throughout if it would entice her to come home to him. He needed to focus on his case, but now he was distracted by thoughts of a perfect home for his wife. It didn't matter what he wanted, he would make sure whatever home he purchased would fit her needs over his own. His life now revolved around becoming a better man and finding his wife and getting her to return to him.
He was done and now distracted, he decided his next step was a realtor's office. He wanted to officially list his condo and have them begin the search for his perfect family home. His condo was worth at least ten million and maybe more. It was a prime location so it should go quickly and for a premium price, so even taking a lower-paying job he should still be able to find the perfect home. He was feeling better about his life already and was even feeling good about his plans and changes. Hopefully, life would turn out the way he wanted his wife in his arms and living the life of marital bliss.
One step at a time, he thought, it would be game on as soon as he found her. He would pull out every weapon in his woman's arsenal to win her back. He would get on his knees and beg her if he had to, he would do anything!
