Guruprit: “Alright, I’ll tell you the actual concept.”
Ghyana: “Before we start, I have some queries in my mind.”
Guruprit: “Please go ahead.”Ghyana: “Why did you left the job and start farming?”
Guruprit: “After Mr. Devin’s matter, Shel was started doubting me and my staff. Instead of facing problems and arguing each coming day, I quit the job. Ridhhi was in need and I didn’t see my child Shivani when she was born. So, I decided to settle in India. Here, Papaji’s farm was already developed. They invest some amount and we bought this farm.”
Ghyana: “O… It was not your place?”
Guruprit: “No, we bought it from one of our relatives and started sowing sunflower seeds. In between, I came to know about digital agriculture. For the last year, I was studying and working from that perspective.”
Ghyana: “Please don’t mind, but you will need some literate farmers for this.”
Gurupprit: “Yes, you are absolutely right. I have a team of interns who are just pass out from well-known universities with Bachelor of Agriculture.”
Gyana: “Great.”
Gururprit: “We gathered some information, and planned for gaining to increase the best productivity and income too.”
Ghyana: “So, what is the problem?”
Guruprit: “We have a large scope here to plant and grow many and more crops than regular farming. But we can not reach up to the market so easily as transportation and exportation charges with every farmer’s share and mine too are getting out of budget.”
Ghyana: “Punjab has a huge marketplace from where numbers of grains are exported to the neighboring states.”
Guruprit: “Yes, you are right. But still, we are not getting enough value for our crops and so we can not proceed to achieve our best.”
Ghyana: “Alright, will see and study, anyways, let me know about digital agriculture.”
Guruprit: “It’s the government’s “Digital India” project launched in 2015 by the PM to empower farmers. But we have very few percentages of literate farmers across India. Among all the states, Punjab and Maharashtra are having a large sector of farming and it is the basic occupation of citizens. By destiny, I got a piece of earth, so I want to utilize it for the growth of my career and region too.”
Ghyana: “Good thought. What kinds of services are expected under this project?”
Guruprit: “Digital infrastructure, digital services, and digital literacy.”
Ghyana: “Under digital infrastructure includes sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors, and GPS technology. These advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems allow businesses to be more profitable, efficient, and safer.
Guruprit: “Exactly, we want that infrastructure in our farming system which is very expensive.”
Ghyana: “I think, you must concentrate on digital literacy. Because planting these devices is easy, many providers are there and we can also buy them from the market, but our farmers must have the knowledge to use that accurately.”
Guruprit: “I agree with you, but for that, we should be able to buy and plant those devices.”
Ghyana: “Do not worry, I’ll sponsor them. We will try one by one so the finance gets distributed and work can be done easier. We can not invest a big amount in technical devices at one time as we are not used to it. Are you getting what I am saying?”
Guruprit: “Yes… yes… now what about to approach the market?”
Ghyana: “What are the crops you are growing in farms?”
Guruprit: “Sunflower and wheat.”
Ghyana: “Alright. Do you have any empty farm on which you can sow anything else?”
Guruprit: “Yes I have.”
Ghyana: “What do you want to show on that?”
Guruprit: “Sandalwood.”
Ghyana: “Oh God…Sandalwood?”
Guruprit: “Yes. It is in high demand and more profitable in comparison with food, fruits, and flower income.”
Ghyana: “Alright, as you think. But, do you know about its details, I mean, the soil of Punjab land can bear the seeds of Sandalwood?”
Guruprit: “yes, in the between times, some people of farmer's association came and visited the land of Punjab and declared that it is ready to use soil for growing Sandalwood trees.”
Ghyana: “Sandalwood can not grow without the help of some other trees, as it needs oxy and nitro to some extent. You have to find out those crops which are having nitrogen. I am also confused about it. Please make sure from some experienced person.”
Guruprit: “That all will be arranged by Papaji(Mr. Chadhha).”
Ghyana: “It’s good then. What is the next issue?”
Guruprit: “Digital Services. We have a gigantic piece of land to sow, but don’t have the proper medium to reach up to the market.”
Ghyana: “You are having a gigantic land but are you able to producing the products at a large scale?”
Guruprit: “Yes, we are.”
Ghyana: “Don’t be over confident Guru, framing mostly depends on the rain water and enough natural environmental conditions.”
Guruprit: “Yes, I know. But we are having the products at large, our problem is that, most of framers are growing wheat and sunflower. So, all farmers can not get the same income.”
Ghyana: “That is why you chose Sandalwood?”
Guruprit: “Hmm…”
Ghyana: “Okay, tell me one thing, how much products are ready right now in your warehouse?”
Guruprit: “We don’t have sunflower now, but are having 100 quintals of wheat.”
Ghyana: “You need marketing. We will have to introduce digital services in your project first.”
“There are some mobile applications used for selling grains and other farm products. The mobile phone is the preferred delivery medium to sell and create a market for your products. You can promote your product and services to the customers via this app. It will make your farming profitable and sustainable (socially, economically, and environmentally) while delivering safe, nutritious, and affordable food for all.
Guruprit: “How can I run that app?”
Ghyana: “Like the other apps. Learn it.”
Guruprit: “All right.”
Ghyana: “So, your first motive should be digital services, secondly digital literacy, and lastly digital infrastructure.”
Guruprit: “What about sowing Sandalwood?”
Ghyana: “Any kind of crop seeds can sow mostly in the season of monsoon. So, in this monsoon, you may sow Sandalwood.”
Guruprit: “But it may take a lot of time to grow Sandalwood…”
Ghyana: “10 to 12 years to get mature.”
Guruprit: “If I start selling Sandalwood?”
Ghyana: “Why Sandalwood? Try something else.”
Guruprit was a stubborn person. Once he decides something he has to do that only. Ghyana consoled him and gave an idea about its volume of working and efforts behind that but he was still wanted to go for that. After the healthy discussion, Guruprit and Ghyana went to a Omkar’s house (a school friend of Guruprit). Omkar was having Sandalwood farms nearby Punjab and in some other neighboring states. That was in partnership.
Guruprit: “Hello Omkar, how are you?”
Omkar: “Hello, I am good. Meet my best friend Ghyana.”
Ghyana: “Hello”
Guruprit: “Ghyana, Omkar is having Sandalwood farms in the partnership with his friends. He wants a dealer from Punjab who can deal with the clients to buy the Sandalwood.”
Ghyana: “But, why should people buy Sandalwood from you? I mean it is not a public product, it's an industrial product.”
Omkar: “Yes, we will reach up to the small scale industries that processed the sandalwood and can buy it from us.”
Ghyana: “Are there any industries like that in Punjab?”
Omkar: “Of course, we have many soap and cosmetic industries in Punjab.”
Ghyana: “I never heard this before.”
Omkar: “Alright, Guruprit, if you are not comfortable then I will look some another dealer and you just have to look after to my farm as Sandalwood may get a steal. I always wondering about different sites, so the security of my crops is important. I hope you can understand. I can not trust anyone. Guru is my childhood friend so if he didn’t mind… ”
Guruprit: “I don’t mind at all Omkar.. This is an easy job for me. I will get some experience also.”
Ghyana: “Guru, it is a very risky job. Are you sure you want to do it?”
Guruprit: “Yes Ghyana, I am sure.”
Omkar: “Okay then you can come from tomorrow night and I will pay you the amount that you want.”
Guruprit: “Alright. See you.”
Ghyana : “Guru, you are MBA person, and we were discussing Digital Farming before some time, and now you are ready to do watchman’s duty? What the madness you are doing?”
Guruprit: “Listen to me Ghyana, Digital farming is my dream. For that, I need money which I don’t have. Papaji already helped me. How can I take all the money from you? I need to run my household expenses also. It is the best job for me.”
Ghyana: “You are mad. People got murdered in this trade. I recently experienced that.”
Guruprit: “I am a Punjabi tiger, I can kill someone, but no one could touch me.”
Ghyana : “You are impossible. Anyway, I think my need is over. You took your decision, I need to go. Wait, I make a ticket booking.”
Guruprit: “Book a ticket for tomorrow night, in the morning we will have a visit to Punjab city.”
Ghyana booked the tickets for Australia. Then they went the home and enjoyed that night with continental dinner and some drinks. Guruprit was very happy.
Guruprit: “Thanks Ghyana you came… I was getting confused…”
Ghyana: “Anything for you dear friend…”
Guruprit: “Next time, come with Gitika, she will be very happy. She loves farm.”
Ghyana: “Sure. Guru, lets go to sleep now.”
Guruprit: “Yes.”
Ghyana and Guruprit were gone to sleep. That was not hectic day, still Ghyana was getting some unknown feeling of missing something… he tried to remember a lot from his staff to Gitika… He was missing Gitika a lot. But rather than that, there was something… He slept with thought… and went in deep.
It was a morning when Ghyana went to visit the Punjab city with Guruprit. There was great market, from where Ghyana shopped for Girija, Gitika and his parents. When he was wondering, he saw some packets of clay near a shop. That was potter’s shop who was making multiple beautiful objects from clay.
Ghyana took that clay in his hands, a kid saw him.
Boy: “Excuse me…”
Ghyana: “Excused…”
Boy: “What are you doing? You can not touch the clay without permission.”
Ghyana: “But I want this clay.”
Boy: “For what?”
Ghyana: “I am a potter?”
Boy: “Potter means?”
Ghyana: “A person who makes pots, dishes any many more from baked clay.”
Boy: “Interesting. How do you do this?”
Ghyana: “I have a special wheel for that.”
Boy: “Will you show it to me?”
Ghyana: “Sure… but you have to tell me your good name first.”
Boy: “Guddu and you?”
Ghyana: “I am Zephire.”
Guruprit: “Have you forgot your name, dear friend? He is Ghyana, my best friend.”
Guddu: “Hi Ghyana’, I wanna see your skill now.”
Ghyana: “No problem, come with me.”
Ghyana went into the potter’s shop, there was no one in the shop. Ghyana took an opportunity and told Guruprit to look after the shopper if he came at any time.
Ghyana: “See Guddu, this is the special wheel, we take a sphere of clay as large, medium, or small according to o the size of a pot that we want to make, and put that sphere in the middle of this wheel. When this wheel gets start rotating, we have to give a shape to this sphere.”
Guddu: “Ghyana, it is very difficult.”
Ghyana: “Not at all. If you will do practice for it, it will be easy for you.”
Guddu: “From whom, you learned this skill?”
Ghyana: “From myself.”
Guddu: “How?”
Ghyana: “Guddu, where is will there is the way. I was having will and wheel both.”
Guddu: “Great.”
Ghyana got forgot totally about Sky and Anny. When that boy Guddu came to him his mind got started rewinding the memory. The process of implementing child psychology was got worked there in case of Guddu.
After sometime, a tall, well dressed, educated person came in front of Ghyana…
“Hello, myself Sudhir Bajaj… Who is Ghyana?”
Ghyana: “Namaste Sir, I am Ghyana, What can I do for you?”
Mr. Bajaj: “You have already done a lot for me Mr. Ghyana. I want to thank you.”
Ghyana: “I am not getting anything, Sir.”
Mr. Bajaj : “My son is too lazy, He never try to learn anything, not even study. We all got tired while telling him and consoling him, but we got fail in every attempt. But what did you taught him? He came to me and said, “Papaji, I want to learn pot making.”
I asked him, “What happen? How did you decide to learn pot making?”
He said. “Papaji, where is will there is the way. I am willing to learn, so I will learn that. The shopkeeper near the city can teach me. Will you please ask him?”
So, I came to you. Can you teach my son to do that? It will create some learning interest in him. He can learn some other good things ahead. I will be thankful to you if you say Yes.
Guruprit: “Chachaji, he is not the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper is coming from there… see… you can request him…”
Ghyana requested a shopkeeper to teach some basic pots to Guddu, That became a similar memory of Sky in Ghyana’s mind when he was leaving Punjab. Punjab trip was getting interesting…..
Guddu: “Thank you Ghyana...”
Ghyana: “Always welcome dear….”
Ghyana woke up after the multiple trails of Ridhhi and Guruprit, and what did he realize that that was dream and he was missing Sky too much. He created a fantasy in the memory of Sky in his mind. That was a beautiful dawn, but when he woke up was almost afternoon.
He got up and started packing. He shopped a beautiful dress for Shivani and Ridhhi too. He gifted them and took leave by touching the feet of Mr. Chadhha and hugged tightly to Guruprit.
Ghyana: “Thanks Guru.. for this wonderful trip.”
Guruprit: “Take Care.”
Ghyana went to the airport and took a flight to Australia. All got so happy when Ghyana reached the Oberoy mansion.
Gitika: “Dad, you came, I was missing too much, please don’t go anywhere now.”
Ghyana: “I was missing you too dear.”
Mrs. Shanu, Mr. Shekhar was also got very happy as they were meeting Ghyana after a long time.
Ghyana’s phone ranged….
Ghyana took the call and was got disturbed suddenly.
Girija: “Ghyana, what happen? Who was on call?”
Ghyana : “Ridhhi”
Girija: “Ridhhi? What did she say?
Ghyana: “Guruprit…”
Girija: “Guruprit? What happened to him?”
Ghyana: “He got declared Brain dead.”
Girija: “What? How?”
Girija called Ridhhi and asked for the details.
There was a con on the Sandalwood farm of Omkar. When Guruprit tried to stop him from cutting the wood he attacked beat on his head. When the neighbors took him to the hospital, doctors declared him as braindead.
Girija: "Who is this Omkar Ghyana?"
Ghyana: "School friend of Guruprit."
Girija informed the sad news to Rohan and Nitu. Both were got shocked.
Ghyana took some time to get from that shock, but he got normal and constantly praying for Guruprit.
One day, Sky and Anny came to Oberoy Mansion and asked for Ghyana...
Ghyana came in front...
Sky: "Ghyana, you forget me?"
Ghyana: "Not at all my dear child..."
Sky: "Why didn't you meet me?"
ghyana: "Very sorry..."
Sky: "Don't say sorry"
Anny: "Uncle, Sky has participated in the science project competition, and won first prize."
Ghyana: "Really? That's great Sky. many congratulations to you."
Sky: "Thanks Ghyana..."
Anny: "Uncle, Sky created a dummy farm, and explained about the digital agriculture technologies"
Ghyana was having the memories of Guruprit and the connection between Guruprit, digital Agriculture, that dream of Sky.... everything was having some connection.
Ghyana: "Sky, what did you sowed in your dummy farm?"
Sky: "Sandalwood."
Ghyana was broken completely. He decided to close the ChandanPro, factory in India. But Girija and Mr. Shekhar consoled him and stopped him from not doing so...
Sandalwood aroma is very pleasant and smells good but Ghyana started hating that aroma. The holy thing became like a curse for him.
The days were going, everything was getting progressed, but the life of Guruprit Stopped.
Shivani, Guruprit's daughter was of one year when he met with that attack. Now she turned ten, that was her eleventh birthday. Girija made a video call, and what a surprise, Ridhhi, and Shivani did the job of Guruprit. They both were serving to the literate young farmers in Punjab. Shivani studied about the farming and was doing that work under the guidance of Ridhhi and Mr. Chadhha. Mrs. Devin was right, the wisdom and prowess can not die.
Ghyana said to Ridhhi. "I know, Guruprit will come back soon. He is there with us. Just took a pause, got tired."Sky: "Ghyana, I wanna meet uncle Guru..."Ghyana: "Okay"Sky: "Uncle, I will make your dream come true... I sowed Sandalwood in my digital firm in school..."Ghyana: "What? How do you know about Guru's dream?"Sky: "I am watching uncle Guru in my dreams for the last thirteen years asking to become his son..."Ghyana: "Can't believe..."
Ridhhi: "You have to..."
Ghyana: "What you mean to say?"
Ridhhi: "He always wanted a son, and was very upset Shivani. But I do not think less than any son. She is also working hard."
Ghyana: '"But Why Sky?"
Ridhhi: "Maybe, it is destiny call..."
The Sky got a call to present his and sow his Sandalwood crop in the Australian association's agricultural land.
Everyone was astonished and were happy too.
Sky: "Shivani, would you like to come with us? We both will work together for your Dad."
Shivani looked at Ridhhi having some confused expressions on her face.
Ridhhi granted permission and Ghyana went back to Australia with both the Sky and Shivani. Girija and Oberoy's were there on the day of the presentation of the experiment performed by Sky and Shivani, but Ghyana did not give his presence on that occasion. Children got angry with him but he was also helpless. No one was able to force him as his feelings were truly honest and can be understood.
