CHAPTER 36 It’s past midday when Hee-Man steps out to let the guard know I’m ready. My orientation is complete, and my first day of hard labor begins. Since the English-speaking jailor is somewhere else at the moment, I’m depending solely on Hee-Man to serve as my translator. The guard I report to leads us both outside, and I blink in the harsh light of the sun. Hee-Man thinks it’s a good thing I’m being allowed to work in the camp.
