CHAPTER 50 Doc doesn’t look very happy. Neither does Eric. Malnutrition ... pneumonia ... systems shutting down ... I try to tell them both that my body’s feeling stronger than it ever has, but there’s a strange metallic taste in my mouth, and my tongue doesn’t always seem to know how to form the words I want it to. I wish they wouldn’t worry so much about me, but Doc’s probably going to lose his job and maybe his head if he lets me die. I’m Pyongyang’s biggest bargaining chip, after all. Washington DC’s not going to do any sort of bartering to secure the release of a corpse. I should feel grateful I’m being kept alive, but mostly I’m just glad to be out of that prison camp.
