Chapter One

“I'll be out with Liza, see you later!” I yelled. I heard them call out something inaudible after me, but I ignored them, overwhelmed with excitement. Liza's beat-up car was parked right in front of our house, waiting for me to hop in. “Are you sure you want to do this, Elysa? I mean, I can find you another job,” her eyebrows furrowed with worry. “I have stayed far too long without a job, and right now, I don't have much of a choice.” I stated, not fully knowing what I was getting into, but at least I wouldn't be without a job. “Alright, if you say so, but don't hesitate to always talk to me about anything that might bother you, okay?” her voice shook with concern. “Of course, now let's go, else we're gonna be late,” I clicked on my seat belt and rubbed my palms. She hit the road, and I turned on the radio, Taylor Swift's 22 blasting through the speakers. We both sang along till we got to our destination. “Woah, this isn't a club, what! Are you serious, Liza? This is where you work, it's huge!” I exclaimed in awe. Liza chuckled. The building right in front of us was the biggest in the entire street, and it was supposedly a club. “You're overreacting, but yeah, this is where I work. And this isn't just any club, Elysa. This is the Dome. It's owned by Richard Holmes, a billionaire businessman,” she explained. “Yeah, no s**t. I totally believe that because no normal citizen of America can own this type of place,” I answered as we walked into the building. It was even more beautiful and modern on the inside, simply exquisite and clearly for people who had the money to spend. I fell in love with the place immediately and couldn't wait to work there. “Wait here, I'll go get Rob. He's the manager,” she gave me a small smile and gestured for me to sit down on a bar stool. “Alright,” I returned the smile and sat down, still taking in the beauty of the entire place. There's no way I can explore this entire place even for three days! After about 10 minutes, Liza arrived, followed by a stout looking man. Must be Rob. “Elysa, this is Rob, the manager. Rob, this is Elysa,” she introduced us. “Hello sir, nice to meet you, I'm Elysa,” I gave him the best smile I could come up with. “Nice to meet you, Elysa. I'm sure your friend here has told you about the nature of your job. I think you are a perfect fit for the job. That smile you gave me just now would go a long way for you,” he praised. “Yes she has, thank you,” This time, my smile was bigger than the last one. “So, you can start right away, if that is okay. Liza here will give you everything you need, goodluck,” he patted my back and left us alone. “Thank you, Liza. I couldn't have done this without you,” I felt most of my worries melt away as I hugged her. “It's okay, now let's get going. It's almost show time. People are gonna pop up here any minute now. Let's get you ready,” she grinned as she held my hand and led me up the stairs and into a big room filled with other girls. Everything was chaotic in there. The girls were getting ready, curling their hair, styling it, squirming into lingerie, and powdering their faces. Liza filled me in on important details as she got my things ready, and I mentally noted everything as she was blurting them. “It's almost time for you to get up there on the poles. Remember everything I taught you, be confident, and just dance, okay? I would have joined you, but today is my day off. Just try to have fun, hmm?” Liza would sometimes speak to me like I was a lost child. “Yes ma'am, I remember everything, don't worry. And please don't tell Karen and Daniel that I work here. They will freak out,” I begged. Living with my adoptive parents was great, but I was already tired of depending on them and being without a job. At least I would be able to support them now, and that's all that mattered. “Alright, you look great, now let's move,” she proceeded to arrange the space we used while I took a look at the mirror, I gasped. “Wow, Liza, I look hot. A hot f*****g stripper, you are so good at this, wait so I have to learn how to do this too,” I fake cried. “Ha ha very funny,” she mocked with an eye roll, “I refuse to be your slave Ely, come off it,” she laughed and I joined in, cackling like a witch who just worked out her magic spell. “It's time Ely, I'll wait for you downstairs, have fun!” she waved and ran out of the room. “You heard her, Elysa, you can do this,” I said to myself whilst staring at my reflection in the mirror. I walked out of the room and into the dimly lit dance floor, my mask was on and so were the other girls. I could feel my uncomfortably exposed butt jiggle as I strutted to the stage, I heard the men whistle at the sight of me and that's when I knew I had to keep their attention to myself. I held the pole and began doing everything Liza had taught me over the past few months. Liza had been a stripper for 3 years and that's how she survived. In normal circumstances I wouldn't be one but since no one wanted to hire a community college graduate, I had to take matters in my own hands. I knew I had a great body and a pretty face, I was also a fast learner so what stopped me from being a stripper too? Nothing. I danced with all my might, holding the pole, making gestures, twirling and twisting until I felt my bones crack. A good number of these men threw bills at me, some even slapped my butt and that made me shiver but I continued what I was doing. It's okay Ely, you got this.
