Chapter Two

                                                                                Chapter Two

The girls make their way back to the cars they hear someone screaming, but they can’t see anyone in the darkness, so they follow the sounds. It brings them to the stables where the horse was.  There is a girl screaming and crying her boyfriend is trying to keep her calm, but she is frantic. She keeps screams over and over ;

“They killed my sister.”

“What is going on?” Nicki asks the guy holding the girl crying.

“There is a body.” He says

“A body where?” Nicki asks

“In the stable with the horse she thinks her sister it has the same shirt on she had on.” He tells them.

Nicki turns and looks at the others and they motion her to look in the stall where the horse is. She walks slowly past the couple and peeks in the stall. The horse is thrashing his tail around and there seems to be something wrapped in it. 

“OMG Nicki says.” Then covers her mouth as if she didn’t mean to say it out loud.

“What, what do you see?” Angelina asks.

“Wait a minute.” Nicki says. “Does this horse kick people?” She asks the guy.

“I don’t know.” He replies.

Nicki opens the stall door and walks inside. She walks out with a life sized doll like a mannequin. 

“It is not a real body see.” Nicki replies to the couple.

“It is fake it looks real, the hair, pink shirt in the moonlight it looks realistic.

The girl turns around and looks. She says that is her sister’s shirt so they have her. Nicki looks over the doll and finds a note rolled up inside the mouth of the doll. 

“Be careful where you seek, for not everything is what it seems to be.”

Clue:  “When the wind blows you can hear me cry.”

Everybody gets quiet, thinking of what Nicki just read.  

“Ok we need to brainstorm this. Everybody think what comes to mind when you read the clue.” Nicki says.

One by one they would say what they thought, finally a list was made and they chose what seemed to be all the logical areas to look.

One person says that the wind howls with in certain things that sounds like a cry. Like the wind blowing in an old loft of a barn. Another says an old mine has wind that howls like a cry when blowing, also an old windmill and a cave has howling noises from the wind.

“Yeah that is right and an old house would also.” Diana says.

“Ok here’s what we have so far. A barn, an old abandoned house, an old mine, and old tree, an old windmill, and a cave does that sound like we covered everything around this area to look in. That is pertaining to the clue?” Nicki asks everyone.

They all squeeze into Angelina’s car Nicki’s driving and Kaz is telling her where the places they have on the list are. Kaz knows where each of the places are on the list they came up with.

Driving slowly down the dirt road they come upon a single wide trailer everybody becomes quiet and eager to search for the places. Looking out the windows and listening to Kaz talk about growing up out there. 

“Now that everything is grown up it is hard to remember where I am at. It has been a while since I was this far down this road.” Kaz tells everyone.

“Hey look that is an old abandoned barn over there.” Sara says.

They turn and head over towards the barn.  Driving up to it slowly everybody in the car is looking at the barn for any movement or clues. The car comes to a stop. Nobody gets out of the vehicle almost as though they are all waiting for something. Finally Nicki says:

“Fine you bunch of chicken shits I’ll get out first so if anything is out here it will get me first then come after each of you.”

They all slowly get out of the car after Nicki gets out.  Walking towards the old abandoned barn Angelina trips over something on the ground, they all turn and look at her. Sara, and Diana are busting out laughing. Nicki is trying to help her up, while Kaz and Alex keep walking straight towards the barn.  

“What the hell are you doing?” Nicki asks Angelina.

“I’m trying to get the f**k up bitch.” Laughing the whole time she’s saying.

“Does anyone have a god damn flashlight on their smartphone?” Nicki says.

“I do if I can get it out of my pocket.” Diana says to Nicki.

She finally gets the phone out and turns the flashlight on so they can see what Angelina tripped over.  Diana is shining the light everywhere except where they need to look. Nicki is getting pissed by the second. 

“Give me that damn phone Diana!” Nicki says.

Diana gives Nicki the phone and she shines it around the ground to see what tripped Angelina.  Looking all around the ground after pulling Angelina to her feet she doesn’t find anything unusual.  

“It must have been your two left feet again!” Nicki says to Angelina.

They all start to laugh and carry on, not paying any attention to the two girls that were with them.  They turn to look and walk towards the old barn when they hear a sound.

“Did you hear that?” SSShhhh. They all say to Diana.

“It sounds like it is coming from the old barn. 

A crackling noise faintly comes from the barn sounds like an old recorder player that is running over and over at the end of the record. They finally catch up with Alex and Kaz they are standing just outside the barn, the noise is louder now. 

“Where is it coming from” Diana whispers from behind Nicki and Angelina. Sshhhh Nicki says suddenly and reaches back grabbing Diana’s hand. They all stare into the dark barn. The can see stable doors open some slightly open, some half opened. There’s a hay loft high above. Nicki looks up slightly. 

Whispering she says; “the sound is coming from up there.”  And points to the loft. 

Kaz takes the first step into the barn Alex quickly behind her. Nicki waits a few seconds before stepping into the barn. Huddled behind her are the three girls. Acting like they are in a Halloween horror nights haunted house they are holding each other’s hand. 

There’s soft dirt on the floor of the barn obviously it hasn’t been used for a while. The smell of horses faintly lingers in the air. The crackling noise still playing getting louder as they walk further into the barn. 

Dust floats upward as they walk through the soft dry dirt on the floor causing Sara to start coughing. Nicki looks back at Sara as she pauses for just a second. Turning back around she can’t see Kaz and Alex anymore. 

Nicki squeezes Angelina’s hand. “Where did they go? Did you see where they went?” Nicki whispers.  “I didn’t see anything it’s like they vanished into the dark at the end down there.” Diana whispers back. 

Nicki walks ahead of the others as she vanished into the darkness. The others huddled together Sara talking the lead pulling the other two with her. A creak from the wood floor above in the loft above. “Nicki is that you?” Sara whispers. A wind gently blows in from behind them a smell of cigarettes move through the air as it passes a chill runs up the backfield the three. Sara looks back behind her only to see the moonlight at the entrance of the barn and dust swirling moving upward. 

A hand grabs Sara’s arm from out of the dark Sara jumps and screams causing the girls to do the same. 

“Quiet god damn it!” The girls quickly walk to Nicki. She points upwards to the loft. Kaz and Alex are standing in front of them all leaned up against the barn wall. Creaking of the wood floor in the loft sounds as though someone is walking up there. 

“Give me your phone Diana.” Nicki flips the screen turning on the flashlight. 

“No, turn it off!” Kaz whispers in an angered tone. Nicki glares at her with the f**k you look. Kaz reaches over and puts her hand in front of the light on the phone. 

“If there’s someone or something up there I want to see!” Nicki pulls her are away holding the phone up to see the floor of the loft above. Kaz tries reaching for it but Nicki is taller and she cannot grab it. 

In the middle of the scuffle Angelina yells out. “Look there’s a shadow moving up there!” Nicki and Kaz stop and they all look up. Watching a shadow move with the sound of the boards creaking. 

“f**k this s**t!” Nicki is getting angry she’s had enough of the sneaking around bullshit. The more she thinks about The Whole situation that they fell into the madder she gets. She feels something isn’t right with the whole story feeling as they are being lead into something by Kaz and Alex. She’s had a gut feeling that the two are untrustworthy and she’s pretty good at knowing to follow her instincts 9 out of 10 times there correct. 

Nicki storms past Kaz and Alex with the light of the phone she finds a wooden ladder. She grabs it and looks up. It leads all the way to the loft. Sara reaches out and grabs Nicki as she starts to place her right foot on the ladder to climb up. 

“What are you doing? You can’t be seriously going up there?” Sara hangs on and Nicki places her left foot on the ladder and starts to climb pulling Sara’s hand from her jacket. 

“Nicki, wait, you can’t go up there?” Nicki looks back at Diana. “Why the hell not? I mean seriously do you really think someone is up there to kill us?” Diana pauses for a second. She glances over to Angelina. Angelina shrugs her shoulders and grabs the ladder behind Nicki. 

“Oh, come on you two? WTF!” Sara stomps her feet and pushes Diana out of the way. 

“Well you might as well come on ladies I don’t think any of you want to be down her in the dark all alone!”

Kaz and Alex make their way up after Diana and the rest.
