Liam’s POV
I did as Kate asked and cleaned the field, after taking her to our room to rest. Since everyone was not injured and full of energy, I made them clean too. We were done in about 30 minutes and the only loss of this pack was Anna. I felt sad because she was my first but remembering what she did to Kate and risking pack lives I let that feeling go and instead felt anger and guilt. Guilty towards Kate. If I had waited for her then none of this would have ever happened. Yes, Anna was my first and that gave me a special connection to her, but she was a slut. She was always in some singles wolf’s bed and I can’t believe that I let her in mine.
To be honest I knew about the rumors going around that she was my chosen Luna, but I didn’t really care at the time. She was never going to be my Luna, but I never bothered to clarify because I did think that one day, I would have a mate and that it would affect her. Obviously, I knew I had one out there I just didn’t think that I would choose to be with her.
I was opening the door to the bunker for all the people to came out. I saw that Jess and Joe were in charge. They were calling out all the names on the list. And since they were quite a few, they had divided the bunch into three groups according to age. When they are done, I move to the front of the pack and start to talk.
“As you all know we were attacked by rogues today. We are investigating as to what they are planning and why they have teamed up with witches.” I hear gasps
“Do not worry everything will be fine. We will get to the bottom of this. I do not want to worry you all, but I do not want to lie either. This is something that all of you should know as part of the pack. I want you all to be on alert at all times. We don’t know what they are planning yet so everyone will be training. The adults will be trained from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The teens will be training from 12 p.m. till 4 p.m. It is very important that you are there on time and take this seriously. Everyone needs to know how to protect themselves. That is all. You may go.”
Once I’m done Jess and Joe come to me asking for Kate and if she is alright. I sigh before answering.
“Kate is fine she just got exhausted from the fight, so she is resting.”
When I say this a pair of females are passing by and they laugh. I turn and clearly hear what they say next “See she can’t even protect us. I told you Anna is our only Luna. That Kate slut will never be as brave as Anna to leave the bunker and protect us like a real Luna.” I listen until I am fuming with rage. How dare they disrespect there Luna and think that slut is better.
I let out a growl which grabs the attention of the whole pack. “Never speak that way about your Luna she did everything in her power to protect you all and is the reason none of our warriors died. She was willing to give her life to save her pack members. That slut that you all speak so highly about was the one who helped the witches and rogues. Anna betrayed this pack she was not and never was your Luna. Kate is your Luna. Now I suggest you start respecting her or else you will have a bone to pick.” I growl one last time before making my way to the house.
Kate’s POV
I felt horrible. I woke up with an arching head and sore muscles. I felt so weak that I could barely move. With every movement came a pain that was sending me back to an unconscious state. Fighting the urge to rest I went to the bathroom and turned on the water to fill the tub. Once it was ready, I placed a coconut scented bath bomb into the water. I then very carefully stepped it, trying hard not to wince every move I made.
I stayed in the tub relaxing my muscles for about 30 minutes before starting to wash. When I was finished, I climbed out feeling refreshed but still sore. I brushed my teeth and hair before going to the closet to get dressed. Liam was not in the room when I woke up so I would need to go look for him.
Following Liam’s scent, I open the door to his office. When I do, multiple heads snapped at my direction. When Liam sees me, he rushes to my side saying “What are you doing up? You need to rest. Come I’ll take you back to our room.”
I let Liam hold me up argue about going back. “I’m fine come on if you’re having a meeting, I want to be a part of it. I also have information on why the witches and the rogues are working together.”
Liam is hesitant but still ends up leading me into the room. Before he goes to sit on the chair behind his desk, he lifts me up into his arms then proceeds to sitting with me on his lap.
The meeting continues as they talk about training to prepared if another fight were to break lose. They also talked about expecting at least 100 more rogues to arrive then this previous fight, and came up with pretty good plans in case of the next attack. There was a lot of them questioning why rogues and witches were working together, but I wanted to talk with Liam about it before anyone else. It involved him and I knew it would hurt him, I didn’t want to surprise him with it Infront of the pack.
When the same question keeps coming up, I speak for the first time in this meeting. “I know all of you want to know why rogue and witches are suddenly working together. I know why and I plan on telling the whole pack when the time comes.” There were a few gasps.
“If you know why you can’t tell us now.” A warrior says. I sigh before responding.
“This is something I must talk about with Liam before anyone else. The witches might not have wanted Liam, but part of the truth involves him. And I will not surprise him with the truth. I will also not reveal anything about this topic until I know Liam is fine with sharing it. The reason behind them working together and attacking us might not be complicated but Liam’s involvement is.”
They stay quiet for a while before one speaks up. “Luna, can’t you tell us why without having to explain Alpha’s involvement. The pack is worried and keeping them in the dark is not going to help.”
I can feel Liam’s confusion but hearing that the members before us question me, gets him angry. He’s not used to this happening. Usually they follow his orders no question, in fear of getting him angry, but follow non the less. I grab his hand and look into his eyes assuring him I have this handled. I turn back and as if they saw Liam’s rising anger they start to steer uneasily in their seats.
I smile softly before saying “I understand this is making the pack worry and the last thing I want is for them to worry, but as I said this is a touché subject and must be discussed with your Alpha first. I will let the pack know as soon as possible. As for those of you that know part of the truth, because you were present when the witch said it, I ask not to hind it from your loved ones but that you delay that conversation. I know it’s a lot to ask but that will just cause me unnecessary questions. I will be announcing everything to the pack soon.”
Some look at me warily, some like they understand, and a few like they don’t want to listen. I look at them specifically as if daring them to go against me and they look down upon noticing my glare.
“ Thank you, you may leave.”
Once they are all out, I get off Liam’s lap and walk to the couch on the other side of the room.
“Liam can you come sit next to me so I can explain to you.”
Without saying a word, he sits beside me. I could tell he’s angry and frustrated that he doesn’t know what’s going on but he’s more worried than anything.
“When I was unconscious for weeks here in the real world, Joule and I talked. She gave me back memories that I locked away.” I took a breath in and out before continuing. “My mother was a female alpha. She was an only child, so she was trained from an early age to become a great alpha for our pack. She was strong and independent. When she found her mate, she found that he was also a leader of his own kind. He guided them to be great at what they did but still be humble. Not all covens or coven leaders were like that. They agreed that they would unite their people with themselves still in charge of their own kind.” I paused to look at him. He just stared at me, looking bland.
“When they gave birth to me, I was treated like a princess. I shifted into my wolf at the age of 5. I was so happy I ran in my wolf to the pack house but there was an alpha from a different pack there. He saw me shift. He was a power-hungry alpha that would stop at nothing for getting what he wanted and ending those who stood in his way, including a 5-year-old little girl. He agreed to an alliance and to keep me being able to shift a secret. A few years later he attacked my pack and made someone kill my parents. I remember I was hiding in a tree hole holding my father’s hand as he mumbled something before he died. I know now that my father’s last words were a spell to transfer his power and put my wolf to sleep. Protecting me until his end.
“I remember feeling the hand that held mine loosen as he left me. Looking into my mother’s eyes and seeing the light go. Seeing her life end right before me. I saw the whole thing. I saw who killed them.” I looked up to see Liam reaching to wipe my tears before I told him who it was. “It was you.”
Liam stopped midway and stared at me. He looked into my eyes, looking for any sign of a lie.
“That…it…how was it me?” I stared at him for a long while. Did he really not remember? Maybe he doesn’t want to remember.
“I saw your dad screaming at you, hitting you. I heard that if you didn’t kill them, he would kill your mother. Neither of you knew that I was there. Not until you were kicked down by your father. You saw me and told me to keep quiet so I wouldn’t get killed. You saved my life.”
“Why did you stay with me after finding that out. Did you plan on getting revenge or something.” He screams at me.
“Liam it wasn’t your fault.”
“How can you say it wasn’t my fault if I’m the one that pretended to save them only to betray them. How could you say that seeing me do it? How could you stay with me, continue to be kind to me knowing it was me who killed your parents.”
“Because I saw how he beat you. I heard the horrible things he told you not only about your mother but about you. Because I know that you were young and if you didn’t do it, he could have done unimaginable things. Liam you’re not any of those things he said. You are strong, independent, brave, confident, charming, and so many other things. You did it for your mother and if she couldn’t see what a great person you are then she lost someone truly wonderful.” At this point he had tears flowing out, so I reached to wipe them away. “Liam look at me.”
“I know people left you because of this. But you need to know something.” I stopped to move his head and waited for his eyes to meet mine.
“I am not like them. Of course, I was mad for a while, but I saw what happened and no child should be forced to kill or be treated in the manner your father treated you. I’m not going to leave you…I love you.” He just kept looking into my eyes with a stray tear falling every now and then. I held our stare for a while longer before looking down to his hands and taking them both in mine. I looked back up and smiled. He returned it with a few more tears before leaning in to share a kiss.
The kiss was soft, passionate, and short. When we broke apart, and I lead him to our room for him to rest. We both needed a nap after the bomb was dropped.
