A Long Way from the Heart

Chapter 2 - Mate

Kate's POV

Time seemed to freeze as I stared up at the stage, my green eyes were lost within the sea blue eyes that were staring back at me. My heart began to flutter as his scent seemed to wrap around around. My breathing became shallow and all I could do was stare at him.

"Mate! Go to Mate," I could hear Kira yelling in my head.

Deep down I wanted to go to him, but at the same time, why of all people did it have to be him? I closed my eyes to try and focus myself back to reality. I wasn't a fan of Mark, especially since his father took over as Alpha when my mom and dad should of taken it. This was not supposed to happen, out of all the wolves, why was Mark my mate?

I opened my eyes back up and looked back up at him, to see that he was still looking at me, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. My heart fluttered again as I could feel a small blush starting to heat my face up. His chocolate brown hair was messy, not too short, but not too long. It was combed to the right side of his head, with little bits of hair on the left side, just enough to frame his face. He was very muscular, at least you could tell with his tight fit t-shirt.

"I wonder what he would look like without that shirt," Kira purred in my head, causing my face to heat up more.

I thought back to her, "Kira, we can't do this. I know we are mates, but look what his dad did! We so badly wished he wasn't our mate. Is the Moon Goddess punishing us?"

Kira huffed in the back of my mind, I could sense her rolling her eyes, "I am not sure what plans that mother has, but we cannot ignore the mate bond. He is our Mate. We are mated with certain people for reasons. This could be a good things, a good change."

I sighed and placed my hands up to my face and took in a deep breath. This is not how my night was supposed to happen. I wanted to so badly go check out the waterfall and scenery after this ceremony and not have to worry about mates. But Kira had a point. We are paired with certain Mate's for reasons, at first it may not seem like the right thing, but in the end it could be just what was needed.

Placing my hands back at my side, I opened my eyes and went to look at my Mate, only to see that he was not on the stage anymore. I had noticed that the room had gone quiet and realized that almost all the pack members were looking at me, including Alpha Felix. I don't like attention, and having everyone looking at me right now made me extremely nervous. Taking a few steps backwards to try and leave, I bumped into something.

Sparks. I felt sparks on my back that were extremely pleasant and almost let out a sigh. I felt arms wrap around my wasit and pull me closer. I turned around as best as I could with the arms still wrapped around me to find those same beautiful sea blue eyes staring back at me at a very close distance.

"Mate," Marks smiled as he stared back at me.

I could hear gasps and people whispering to eachother. The young future Alpha has found his mate. I was drawn back to Mark's face when he placed his fingers under my chin and tilted it towards him. Before I could register anything, he leaned down and placed his lips onto mine. The sparks were amazing, my heart felt like it was swelling with happiness. I closed my eyes and kissed him back, placing my hands onto his chest, feeling his muscles flex underneath from my touch.

When he pulled back, I looked into his eyes and seen swirls of gold within his eyes, having an instant knowing that his wolf was there. Mark then released one of his arms and pulled me to his side so he could have me facing his father. He looked up at his father and smiled.

"What a joyous day it is! My son has found his Mate! Kate Smith, daughter to Beta Sean and Tina Smith," Felix shouted exitedly.

Everyone began to cheer, well all except a few. I caught a glimpse of a short haired woman with black hair, glaring daggers at me with her blue-green eyes. I realized it was Olivia, the she-wolf who was telling everyone that Mark was her mate and that they belonged together. I just wished that the ceremony would just end. I didn't like all this attention.

And as fate has it, Kate felt a familiar presense coming to them. She looked over to her right and saw her father walking to her and Mark, his eyes glaring at Mark, his jaw clenched.

"Kate, this is a joke I hope, please tell me this is a joke," Sean looked at her, almost pleading. He looked at her with eyes that were full of hurt.

She looked into her dad's eyes and she looked down at the ground and closed her eyes, giving him the answer he was not hoping for.

"I'm sorry dad, but the Moon Goddess has paired Mark and I as mates... I cannot break that connection," she said in a low tone. "I hope that you and mom will be ok with it."

Sean looked at his daughter with saddened eyes and sighed, closing his eyes and then looking back at her, "You don't have to apologize, kiddo. I know what it is like with the mate bond and finding your mate." He looked over at Mark, "Please take care of my daughter. She is your mate. You must cherish her, love her, and never hurt her. She is my only child, I am very protective of my daughter."

Mark smiled up at her dad and extended his hand out to him, "I promise, sir."

They shook hands and before she could tell her father anything else, he turned to Alpha Felix, "I will be leaving the ceremony early. Tina isn't feeling well tonight, and I would like to go back to her, sir."

Alpha Felix nodded and motioned for him to go ahead and go. And with that, her father was out the door. Everyone began to talk around the room, music began to play and Kate could see the Omega's bringing out the food. She caught a few of them looking over at her and Mark, their eyes full of curiosity, but knew not to stare too long.

"So, my little Mate, what shall we do for the rest of the night," Mark leaned down to Kate's neck, his warm breath caused tingles to run down her spine. His mouth inches away from where he would mark her.

A blush creeped on her face, the mate bond was stronger now that they have both come to terms that they are mates. She could practically feel the lust in the mate bond that he was feeling. She turned to face him and placed her hand on his cheek and stared into his eyes. They were swirling with blue and gold, and she was sure hers were swirling with green and gold as well. Maybe this wouldn't be bad after all. Maybe this is what was needed to make a change, a change for the pack. That would be her mission as future Luna. To make the pack great and successful.

She smiled up at him and placed her other hand on his cheeck and brought herself up to his face and placed her lips onto his.
