Bang. Bang…
Someone was banging on the door. I took a deep breath, reminding myself I wasn’t there anymore. It wasn’t those two idiots.
The two idiots here could be worse, but at least I had hope that I’d be saved by someone.
“Adriana, Luna, it’s me, Joey. Come out, they’re gone.”
“Joey.”
I sniffled. I didn’t even realize I was crying. “Joey, what happened?”
I stood and opened the door. At least she didn’t have any injuries. I had imagined the worst, thought I’d see her in terrible shape—but whatever they did to her wasn’t physical. It had to do with witchcraft.
“Are you okay?” She looked me over from head to toe, examining me, checking for injuries.
When she didn’t see any, she sighed in relief. “The Alpha would have my head if anything happened to you.”
“Where is he? Where is everyone?” The thought of anything happening to Devon made me sick. I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“They’re fine. It was just some rogues with no battle tactics. The Alpha alone could handle that.”
“Really?”
“Yes. He’s a very powerful hy—” she caught herself, forcing a laugh. “I mean, a very powerful wolf.” She gave a nervous chuckle, clearly trying to hide something.
“Let’s go meet your mate. He must be worried sick.”
I wonder what Joey was trying to say, what could she be hiding from me? I'll have to ask her. But that will have to wait for later.
In all honesty, I couldn’t wait. In the short time I’d known him, I felt like I’d known him forever. I missed him already. I couldn’t wait to mark him…
No. Where did that thought come from? I was supposed to have a talk with him. I couldn’t believe I forgot that so easily.
As we stepped out, I watched Joey closely. She opened the way with nothing but a bang of her hand.
I couldn’t help but wonder why those rogues’ banging hadn’t worked.
A lot of people were walking around the pack house quietly. They looked shaken, but no one was making a fuss.
I noticed something else too—this pack didn’t have the standard number of people. There were maybe a hundred, maybe even less, and they all lived inside the pack house. Only the mated ones had built their own houses outside for privacy.
Then I saw him. Devon. He was pacing the halls, looking disheveled, wearing only shorts. His chest looked so… yummy. Six-pack abs—I knew because I counted. That deep V-line disappearing below his waistband…
My thoughts cut short when I caught Joey smirking knowingly at me. My face heated, and I blushed.
I started toward him, if only to avoid Joey’s teasing. The closer I got, the hotter I felt.
He looked up and smiled when he saw me. In a heartbeat he was in front of me, scooping me up. My legs wrapped around his waist instinctively.
“I missed you,” he growled low, nibbling my neck.
“Me too. I—I missed you too.” I tilted my neck, craving more of him. Around him, I lost all sense.
I hadn’t even realized we were moving until he laid me down on the bed.
“My mate. Mine.” His growl deepened as his mouth worked at my neck.
I arched off the bed with a scream. “Ahhhh!” Our lower bodies pressed together. We were grinding, panting, breathless. He trailed lower, down my neck to my chest.
He snarled at the fabric in his way. His claws tore it in half with one swipe, then retracted.
He groped me, licking and sucking like I was the sweetest meal.
“Ahhhh!” I wanted more. I grabbed his head, pressing his face into my breasts.
He pulled back just enough to look at me. “You’re so beautiful. Stunning.” His thumb traced my lips before he leaned down and captured them in a searing kiss. His lips were soft, but the heat was consuming. He nipped and nibbled my bottom lip.
The kiss was deep, like he was exploring every part of me.
“Mmmmm,” I moaned into his mouth.
“Baby, you taste so sweet. My sweet Addy.”
He pushed his thumb between my lips. “Suck.” His gaze was heated, like I was art he couldn’t stop admiring.
“Exquisite. You do things to me. Sucking on my thumb like it’s my cock.”
“Mmmmm.”
“You like that? You want to suck my c**k?”
I whimpered and nodded, high on him. I was excited to see where this would go. excitement mixed with fear because I still hadn't talked to him.
“I know, baby. We’ll get there soon. For now, I just want to kiss you. I love the way you taste.”
Knock. Knock.
“Alpha, there’s an Alpha from the Moonfang Pack at the border. He says you have something that belongs to him.”
My breath hitched. How did they find me? No. I knew I had to leave. I couldn’t get comfortable here. Mate or not, he wouldn’t sacrifice his pack for me.
My heart was pounding in fear , I was petrified. they were here for me. No...
I jumped off the bed and tried to run—but he was faster.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“No, you’re just going to hand me over to him. I need to leave now. If he finds me, I’m dead!”
“Babe, baby, take a deep breath. Calm down and talk to me, okay? If who finds you? What’s going on?”
I was gasping, on the verge of a panic attack.
“I’m sorry, baby. I was carried away by the bond forming. I didn’t even think to ask what happened, why you were like that when I found you.”
“If you don’t want me to let him in, I won’t. I promise.”
“Why?” My voice was barely a whisper.
He leaned down, kissed me softly. “Because even though I just met you, you mean the world to me.”
“I don’t want to meet him.”
“Then you won’t.”
“Alpha, he’s threatening war if you don’t give him what he wants.”
“Joey, send him away. We don’t entertain people like him.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
