Chapter 35

1081 Words
Joey had me out in the clearing again before the sun was even high. My body ached from all the training we’d been doing lately, but she wasn’t letting up. She kept circling me like a hawk while I stood in the center, sweat dripping down my back, my fists clenched. “Focus, Addy,” she said, her voice sharp but steady. “Don’t just let the fire come. You have to feel it before it bursts.” I tried. God knows I tried. My chest was hot, my skin tingling, and I could feel that spark that always wanted to rip out of me. But the more I tried to hold it back, the more it fought me. “Joey, I can’t” “Don’t say you can’t. Try harder.” I bit down on my lip and screamed in frustration. For a split second, fire shot across my palm, a bright lick of flame that singed the grass. My stomach dropped. If anyone else had been out here… if anyone else had seen that… Joey stomped the fire out quickly, her eyes wide. “Careful, Addy. You’re not ready to lose it like that.” I sank down onto the ground, panting. My chest heaved and I wanted to cry. “What if I never get control?” “You will,” Joey said, softer now. She crouched beside me, her hand on my shoulder. “But you have to push through. And you have to be smarter. If anyone else sees that, they’ll use it against you.” As if they weren’t already. The pack’s whispers had only gotten worse since the fight. No matter what Devon said, I heard them when I walked alone. Traitor. Cheat. Witch. It was like the hatred was spreading too easily, too fast. Sometimes I wondered if I was right that it wasn’t normal. That someone was pulling strings in the shadows to turn everyone against me. Later that evening, when I finally managed to slip away from Joey, I found Devon waiting for me in our room. He was leaning against the window, his shirt half undone, looking at me like I was the only person in the world. “Rough day?” he asked with a small smile. I sighed and nodded, kicking off my shoes. “You could say that.” He crossed the room in two strides, pulling me against him. His lips brushed over my forehead first, then my cheek, slow and warm. “You’re burning yourself out,” he murmured. “You don’t have to be strong all the time especially not when you're with me ". Something inside me cracked at his words. I melted into him, my hands gripping his shirt like I’d fall apart if I let go. “I just want to be enough for you,” I whispered. He tilted my chin up, forcing me to look at him. His eyes were fierce, burning. “You’re already enough. More than enough. You’re mine, Addy.” The way he said it made my stomach twist, made the heat I’d been fighting all day surge in a completely different way. I kissed him first this time, pressing my mouth to his with all the desperation I’d been holding back. He groaned into me, deep and rough, and it was like everything I’d been craving finally spilled out. He carried me to the bed, laying me down like I was something precious. But the moment his mouth claimed mine again, it wasn’t gentle anymore. His hands slid under my shirt, dragging it off, his fingers skimming my bare skin and leaving me trembling. I pulled at his shirt until he let me yank it over his head, needing to feel him, needing his heat against mine. “Devon,” I whispered, arching when his mouth found the curve of my throat. He sucked hard enough to leave a mark, and I gasped, clutching at his back. His body was hard, hot, pressing down against me until I could barely breathe. He moved lower, his mouth tracing fire down my chest, my stomach. I couldn’t think, couldn’t speak, only moan as he took his time, driving me crazy. By the time he slipped my last piece of clothing away, I was already shaking. “Look at you,” he rasped, his eyes roaming every inch of me. “So perfect. Mine.” When his mouth finally touched my c**t, I almost came undone immediately. I cried out, my hands tangling in his hair as he worked me with his tongue, slow, deep, and relentless. He held my hips down when I tried to buck, his growl vibrating against me until I was begging, pleading for more. “Please, Devon” He came back up, kissing me hard, letting me taste myself on his lips. “I love hearing you beg,” he murmured. Then he pushed inside me in one hard thrust. I gasped, clinging to him, my body stretching around him. The pleasure was sharp, overwhelming, and I couldn’t stop the moan that tore out of me. He groaned against my neck, holding still for a second before pulling back and driving into me again. “Devon,” I whimpered, my nails digging into his shoulders. He set a rhythm that stole my breath, hard and deep, each thrust making the bed creak beneath us. He kissed me through it, whispered against my skin how much he loved me, how I was his everything. I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him deeper, my cries filling the room. The heat between us built and built until I was on the edge of breaking. “Come for me, Addy,” he growled in my ear, his voice rough. And I did. My body shattered around him, pleasure exploding as I screamed his name. He followed right after, his body tensing before he groaned loud and deep, spilling into me. We collapsed together, his weight pinning me down in the best way. I buried my face in his chest, breathing hard, my whole body still trembling. “I love you,” he whispered, kissing the top of my head. Tears stung my eyes. I wanted to believe this moment could last forever, that nothing could touch us here. But even as I clung to him, a small voice inside me whispered that it was too good to be true. And I hated that I believed it.
