Chapter 20

1016 Words
We walk back from the training grounds, Devon’s arm firmly around my shoulders like he’s making sure the whole world knows I’m his. I’m sweaty, out of breath, and my hair looks like a bird’s nest, but he keeps sneaking glances at me like I’m the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. “What?” I finally ask, raising a brow. “Nothing,” he says with a smirk. “Just admiring how gracefully you almost fell on your face earlier.” I shove him lightly. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?” “Not a chance,” he laughs. The rest of the pack is busy with their own duties, but I notice the way some of them look at us like they’re surprised. Maybe even a little confused. For once, I don’t care. All I care about is the warmth of Devon’s hand against my skin and the easy rhythm of our steps together. When we reach the house, Joey is already waiting on the porch with her arms crossed and a smug grin. “You two looked ridiculous out there,” she says. “I’m pretty sure the warriors are still laughing behind your backs.” Devon growls low in his throat, but Joey just smirks wider. “Relax, Alpha. They liked it. It made you look… human.” I laugh, but Devon just mutters something about traitorous pack members and ushers me inside The rest of the day passes peacefully. We spend it in the library, where Devon tries to teach me about the history of the pack, though he keeps getting distracted by me sitting on his lap instead of in a chair. Every time he starts talking about a serious battle or a treaty, I trace little patterns on his chest until he loses his place and kisses me instead. “Addy,” he groans after the third time I interrupt him, “you’re doing that on purpose.” “Me?” I say innocently. “I’m just listening.” “Liar.” We end up abandoning the books completely, tangled together on the couch as sunlight pours through the windows. For the first time since I got here, I feel completely at peace. No fear, no doubt. Just us. By evening, we’re in the kitchen making dinner or, well, I’m trying to make dinner while Devon hovers like I’m about to burn the place down. “Careful with that knife,” he says, leaning over my shoulder. “I know how to cut vegetables, Devon,” I protest, swatting at him. “Not fast enough,” he teases, then takes the knife from my hand and finishes the job in half the time. I cross my arms. “Show-off.” He grins, kissing my cheek. “You love it.” We eat together at the table, and for once there are no interruptions, no arguments, no shadows of prophecy looming over us. Just laughter, clinking plates, and Devon stealing bites from my food even though he has his own. By the time night falls, I’m so full and so happy I feel like I could burst. We head upstairs, and I collapse onto the bed with a dramatic groan. “I’m never moving again,” I mumble into the pillows. Devon chuckles, pulling off his shirt and tossing it aside. “Good. Then you can’t run away this time.” I lift my head to glare at him, but he’s already climbing onto the bed, his eyes darker than usual, his wolf close to the surface. “Devon…” My voice comes out softer than I intend. He leans down, brushing his lips against mine in a kiss that’s both gentle and demanding. “Addy, I’ve been holding back for your sake. But tonight… I don’t want to stop.” My heart races. For a moment, fear flickers in my chest, but it’s swallowed by the way he’s looking at me like I’m everything he’s ever wanted. “I don’t want you to stop,” I whisper. Something shifts between us then, the air sparking with heat and need. His mouth claims mine again, deeper this time, and I respond without hesitation. His hands roam over me, pulling me closer, and I wrap myself around him like I’ve been waiting for this moment forever. There’s no rush, no fear, just us giving in to what’s always been there. Every kiss, every touch feels like a promise. He cups my breasts in his palms and whispers "perfect". he's licking and biting downward till he gets to my c**t. just the thought of him inside there makes me clench . He dips his fingers between my legs and rubs my c**t. "Devon please, I need your..." " What do you need babe, tell me". "I-I need your knot, please knot me". "My pleasure Addy". He thrust himself deep inside of me. I threw my head my head back and moaned loudly throwing my hand over my mouth to block the noises I'm making. "No, Addy, don't cover your moans, I want to hear them. you make such sweet sounds". He pushes his fingers into me and slams into me harder. his fangs elongate, and I feel his knot. at the same time we both cry out in pleasure and he marks me. "Why does it hurt?" I groan as I begin to feel a pinch of pain. "It's my knot baby, just stay still I promise it'll stop". He kisses my face . "That was perfect Addy". "I love you ". He's looking at me like he actually does. I'm really glad we completed the bond. it feels surreal. When the bond finally snapped into place, it feels like fire and lightning coursing through my veins, searing and sweet all at once. I cry out, overwhelmed, and Devon holds me tighter, whispering my name like it’s sacred. “I’ve got you,” he murmurs against my skin. “You’re mine, Addy. Always.” And for the first time, I believe it with everything I am.
