Chapter 21

832 Words
The bond is still buzzing under my skin long after the moment passes. It feels like fire and lightning stitched together, humming in every part of me. Devon’s chest is pressed against my back, his arm curled tight around my waist like he’s afraid I might disappear. I don’t even think I could move if I wanted to. My body feels heavy and light at the same time, every nerve alive, every heartbeat echoing his. “Addy,” he whispers into my hair, his voice low and rough, “are you okay?” I nod, though words don’t feel strong enough to answer. “Better than okay.” He exhales like he’s been holding his breath for hours. His lips brush over the back of my shoulder, gentle but lingering, and I shiver. The bond pulls me back toward him with every breath, every glance, every touch. It’s like gravity doesn’t exist anymore there’s only him. We lie there for what feels like forever, wrapped up in each other, the world outside our room forgotten. At some point, Devon props himself up on one elbow, studying me like I’m the only thing that matters. “You’re glowing,” he murmurs, tracing his thumb along my cheekbone. I laugh softly. “You’re imagining things.” “No,” he insists, his eyes darkening. “You are.” His lips capture mine again, slow and searching. The kiss is different this time deeper, hungrier, like the bond has unlocked something neither of us can control. My fingers curl into his hair, pulling him closer. I think I could kiss him for days and never get tired. Time blurs after that. The bond pulls us under again and again, each wave of heat leaving us tangled in sheets, gasping for air, only to find each other once more. It’s overwhelming, consuming, beautiful. Every part of me aches, but I don’t want it to stop. A knock breaks the silence. “Food delivery for the lovebirds,” Joey’s voice sings through the door. I bury my face in Devon’s chest with a groan. “She’s going to torment us forever, isn’t she?” Devon growls low, tightening his hold on me. “Ignore her.” But Joey doesn’t leave immediately. “I’ll just set this down here. Don’t worry, I’m not opening the door. You’re welcome, by the way!” Her footsteps finally fade, and Devon mutters something about banishing her to the farthest corner of the pack lands. I laugh until my stomach hurts, and he silences me with another kiss. Neither of us makes a move toward the food. We stay where we are, wrapped in each other, too content to care about anything else. Devon’s hands trace lazy patterns across my skin, not demanding, just claiming, reminding me I belong here. “Do you feel it?” I whisper, my voice shaky. “The bond?” His gaze softens. “Every second. It’s like you’re inside my chest, Addy. Like I can’t breathe without you.” His words make my heart squeeze, and I press my forehead to his. “Me too.” Another stretch of time slips away. The moonlight creeps in through the curtains, painting his skin in silver. I think about everything we’ve been through how I doubted myself, how much has changed. For the first time, I don’t feel like an outsider. For the first time, I feel like I belong. Devon kisses me again, slower now, savoring every second. “I don’t ever want to let you go,” he whispers. “Then don’t.” We fall into each other again, softer this time, we make love like we have all the time in the world. but no less consuming. The bond hums and flares, a reminder of the promise sealed between us. When it finally quiets, I’m left trembling in his arms, my head against his chest. There’s another knock at the door hours later. “Hello? Did you two even eat the last tray?” Joey calls. “You’re going to starve if you keep this up.” Devon groans loudly, burying his face in my hair. “I’m going to kill her.” I giggle and shout back, “We’re fine, Joey!” “Fine,” she answers, her tone full of mischief. “But if I find you two fainted from hunger tomorrow, I’m telling the entire pack why.” We hear her footsteps retreat, and Devon sighs. “She’s never going to let us live this down.” “Probably not,” I admit with a laugh. The room falls quiet again, except for the sound of our breathing. My body is sore, my heart feels too full, and my wolf is finally silent content. Devon strokes my hair until my eyelids grow heavy. Before sleep takes me, I hear him whisper one last thing. “You’re mine, Addy. Always.” And this time, I know I’m his in every way that matters.
