Chapter 38

1016 Words
We were supposed to be training but somehow Devon always had a way of turning every serious moment into something that left me breathless and distracted. He was standing close, correcting my stance again, his big hands sliding down my arms slowly like he was tracing fire across my skin. “Your guard is still too low, Addy,” he whispered behind me, his chest pressed against my back. His voice was calm but I felt the heat of it in my stomach. I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me. “Maybe I’m letting it drop on purpose,” I muttered. That earned me a low laugh and his hand closed over my wrist, pulling it up. “You think you can tease me and get away with it?” “I don’t know,” I said softly, biting my lip. He spun me around so quickly I almost stumbled, but his arm caught me around the waist. “You don’t get to play with me like that, mate,” he said, but his eyes were smiling even as they darkened. “Or what?” I asked before I could stop myself. He didn’t answer with words. His mouth came down on mine with force, stealing my breath. I dropped the wooden blade I’d been holding and gripped his shoulders instead. His kiss wasn’t patient tonight. It was deep and demanding, like he wanted to remind me exactly who I belonged to. I clung to him as he walked us back until my back hit one of the training posts. The rough wood pressed against me but I didn’t care. He kissed me harder, his tongue sliding against mine, and I moaned into him. “Devon,” I gasped when he finally let me breathe. “You should know better than to tempt me, Addy,” he murmured, his lips brushing my neck as his hand slid under my shirt. “Maybe I like tempting you,” I whispered, tilting my head back to give him more room. His growl vibrated against my throat before his teeth grazed my skin. He didn’t mark me but the threat of it made my knees weak. His other hand gripped my thigh, pulling my leg up around his waist, pinning me tighter against the post. “You drive me insane,” he breathed, kissing his way back to my lips. I wasn’t going to pretend I didn’t want this. My hands slid down his chest, over the hard lines of his stomach, and lower until he caught my wrist with a smirk. “Impatient, aren’t you?” “Shut up,” I said, kissing him again, biting his lip this time. That did it. He lifted me in one easy move, carrying me out of the training yard like I weighed nothing. I buried my face in his neck, laughing breathlessly as he took long strides back toward the house. His grip on me was possessive, his mouth stealing kisses even as he walked. By the time he kicked the door shut behind us and dropped me on the bed, I was shaking with anticipation. He stripped his shirt off and my eyes couldn’t stop roaming over him. I’d seen him bare before but every time still made my heart race. “Like what you see?” he teased, climbing over me. “Always,” I admitted. His mouth was back on mine before I could say more. His hands pushed my shirt up and I lifted my arms so he could pull it off. He kissed down my chest, slow at first, then hotter when I arched under him. His hands explored every inch of me, like he was memorizing me all over again. “Devon,” I moaned when his mouth closed around my breast, his tongue flicking over my n****e. My back arched helplessly as he sucked harder. “You’re mine,” he growled against my skin. “Yes,” I breathed, tangling my fingers in his hair. He trailed kisses down my stomach, tugging my pants down and tossing them aside. His eyes burned as he looked at me spread out for him. “You’re perfect, Addy.” I reached for him but he caught my wrists, pinning them above my head with one hand while the other slid between my thighs. I gasped at the first touch, my body arching as he teased me. “Already so wet for me,” he said with satisfaction, slipping his fingers inside me slowly. I whimpered, tugging at my wrists but he kept them pinned as his pace quickened. He watched my face the whole time, drinking in every reaction. “You love this, don’t you?” “Yes,” I moaned, my voice breaking. He finally released my wrists so he could free himself, and when he pushed inside me, I cried out, clutching his shoulders. The stretch was perfect, filling me completely. “Gods, you feel so good,” he groaned, moving slowly at first before his pace quickened. Every thrust pushed me higher, his hand gripping my hip tightly as he drove into me. I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him closer, my nails digging into his back. “Say my name,” he demanded against my mouth. “Devon,” I cried, the sound breaking into a moan as pleasure tore through me. His mouth crashed on mine as he followed me over the edge, his body trembling as he spilled inside me. We collapsed together, his weight pressing me into the mattress. I was panting, my skin damp with sweat, but I felt more alive than I ever had. He kissed my forehead, then my nose, then my lips again. “I love you, Addy. More than anything.” Tears stung my eyes but I smiled. “I love you too.” We lay tangled together, his arm tight around me as if he’d never let go. For the first time, I let myself believe maybe this happiness could be real. Maybe it wasn’t too good to last.
