Elijah Vega. I make sure the car’s engine is running before I even bring her near it. Every vehicle in the Vega estate is tinted black like obsidian so I’m sure that no one will see her in it. Once we’re seated, Paloma’s hands are fumbling all over the buckle so much she can’t even get her seatbelt on. I lean over. “Hold still.” I click the seatbelt into place for her and glance at her face. Her skin is pale, eyes wide and glossed. You’d think someone slapped her. “Hey.” I tilt her chin up and kiss her. My thumb rests on her lower lip. “I’ve got Zerek ahead of us and he’s close to the café. They’re not moving Eva anywhere until we show up.” She nods so I start my car and pull out of the estate. Zerek had been working near the perimeter, so it didn’t take much to have him reroute. H
