CHAPTER FIVE (5)

The beeping sound was what Sophie woke up to, she wondered where she was, opening her eyes to seeing the white ceiling and for a moment she thought she was in heaven but the persistent beeping sound made her think otherwise turning to her side she saw a machine reading her vitals and that was when everything came rushing to her. That's true she had fainted earlier in her apartment but it seems she is in a hospital now. Her other had was connected to a drip and she felt her head wrapped in bandages she tried standing up but felt weak to do that.

Lying on the hospital bed she wondered who brought her to the hospital, she felt like there is something she was missing but can't place her hand on it yet. Then she heard two familiar voices heading towards her, she froze as the voice got nearer and when the curtain covering her bed space was shifted she almost couldn't believe what her eyes saw.

"Oh my goodness Sophie you are awake

Thank God, how you feeling now?"

Grace rushed to her bed side with concern written all over her face.

" Grace am I dreaming or something how did you get here?." Sophie asked puzzled to see her friends here she looked up and saw Lilian also starring at her with intense eyes. " Someone is finally awake" Lillian said still starring at her.

" Am the one who brought you here, remember I called you before you lost councsiosnes" Grace said trying to make sure she is okay.

Sophie starred blankly for some second as she try to recollect that happening.

"wait you don't remember that are you suffering from a memory loss or something, you know what let me quickly get the doctor." Grace said panicking that Sophie actually has a brain damage.

" No wait I recollect hearing your voice when I was lying on the floor. So you are the one who saved me."Sophie said gently has she held Grace hands.

" Yeah, when you were not answering after picking up the call, then I heard the sound of the crash I could not just wave it away as nothing. I called Lillian to ask for your address and I was able to get to your house before it was too late." Grace explained.

Sophie could not even place properly all the emotions she was feeling right now she just looked at her two friends and said " thank you, thank you so much."

" it's fine we are your friends it is only right we are there for you." Grace said trying to assure Sophie, knowing how awkward she might be feeling in this situation, and also with the fact that it is the first time they are all seeing each other over a year now.

Sophie wince with pain as she tried to sit up on the bed she touched her head that was throbbing with a dull pain wondering how hard she had been injured.

"I will get the doctor." Lilian said as she left Sophie bedside.

Sophie looked at her as she walked away wanting to say more but could not find the right words. She looked at Grace that was still tending to her with concern and smiled." You can relax now Grace am felling better, how long was I out for ?"

" not that long it is not up to 24 hours, they had to stich up your head cause you wounded your forehead, hopefully that won't leave a scar and the doctor said you were malnourished so they have been giving you nutrients since you came." Grace said the last part quietly her face fully disturbed she wanted to ask why she had not taken care of herself to the extent of being malnourished, is the guy really worth hurting herself for but instead she smiled and just held her hand.

Sophie felt bad hearing her diagnosis, She had ruin a whole lot for Ben " thank you and also am sorry for all the inconvenience have bought you, I promise I will take care of the hospital bills as soon as I can get on my feet. Am so sorry."

" Don't worry about that and I was not alone through it, me and Lilian took turns staying with you. I just got back from work to take over from Lilian before you woke up so it is not that exhausting." Grace said.

Hearing that Sophie guilt rose again, she had not thought that Lilian would even be willing to care for her in anyway based on how they had cut off every contact for a while now. With Grace it was not that surprising she is the most caring and nice person among them she have the gentlest and nicest of soul it is practically a nature of hers to be kind but Lilian actions were surprising making her feel bad to have let things deteriorated this much with them.

Few minutes later the doctor came to check on Sophie, confirming that her vitals were okay and she just needed to be monitored in the hospital till tomorrow then she can be discharged and then come back later to remove her stitches. After the doctor left, the 3 friends were alone, Sophie laid on the bed still trying to figure everything out with her situation, while Grace sat down beside her on the bed with Lilian sitting beside the bed. Tension filled the air as the situation got more awkward after the initial panic as been settled with the doctor confirming Sophie is fine. Sophie and Grace tried starting small conversation but it ended weirdly and Lilian just stared at Sophie not saying anything.

Currently they are each keeping quiet as if they are in a silent competition but the situation shifted when Lillian abruptly spoke up

" so are you trying to end your life because of a guy now, leaving your friends behind was not enough huh".

" Lilian don't say that, that's insensitive in her current situation.." Grace said trying to caution Lillian but she just rolled her eyes at her still standing on business. Facing Sophie she continued " you don't have to answer that question you know how blunt Lillian can be sometimes."

" Stop babying her Grace, the doctor said she is fine already so let her answer the freaking question I know you are also curious about how she got injured so stop pretending like everything is fine."

Grace wanted to respond but Sophie cut in " it's fine Sophie, she is right I do owe you guys explanation for what happened though I would have loved not to do that but the earlier I start facing my problem the better for me right now". Sophie sighed as she search for the best way to explain everything clearly.

" Am guessing you guys already know me and Ben broke up." she paused trying to get a confirmation from them and Grace nodded slowly. with fake enthusiasm she continued " Great I don't need to go into that details then, well after he broke up with me I admit I was moping around the house for a few days but it was all not because of the breakup it was just a little bit difficult for me to process everything but during all this i never thought of hurting myself in anyway. This injury here happened when I wanted to get something to eat from the kitchen I suddenly had a bad stomach cramp and fell to the floor and while I was struggling with that a flower vase fell on my head which was what made me pass out so no I was not trying to hurt myself in anyway." Sophie breathed deeply after saying everything if only she could turn back the hands of time she definitely would have made better choices to avoid the current situation she is in.
