CHAPTER THREE (3)

Lilian pushes her cart across the supermarket, check each aisle to pick items she wanted, the shopping she is currently doing is way long overdue due, all her groceries and personal items has long since been depleted but she has been unable to have enough time and come to the supermarket, work had been draining for some weeks now and thank goodness it is finally over and sorted out now. There are times when her job can be so demanding and draining and of not for the fact that she really enjoys what she does she won't have stayed long on the job. She work as a journalist for a TV show and while it has it's rosy side to it one of it down side include being behind in two weeks shopping. Pushing the cart around she made a mental note to not forget replacing some of Jessica's stuff she used in the past days, going through her list she heaved a sigh cause it seems she will be spending a lot of time shopping today.

She was standing in front of the perfume section when she heard a familiar voices, she stopped checking out the scents momentarily and listened closer, call it one of the quirks of her profession she is extremely sensitive to people voice well some might call it eaves dropping but she justify it as being professionally alert. Lilian sccotted a little bit closer to hear the voice clearly but was disappointed when she confirmed it belonged to Zara she should have known from the annoying tone of the voice. Zara was an acquaintance of Lilian, more accurately put a nemesis to her and her friends and as long as it can be avoided she do not want to speak with her or cross her path at all and definitely not today of all days she just wants to get what she needs and head home peacefully.

But it seems that won't be happening cause as she was about to walk away from that aisle, Zara noticed her bringing her to a stop as she called her name.

" Lilly flower, girl is that you?" said in a high-pitched cheerful tone.

Lilian turn around with a fake smile on her face " Zara, how delightful to see you here" she replied

" Lilly oh my gosh you are looking so worn out, your eye bags are popping out and your skin looks so saggy you must be going through some tough times of poor you, looking so old" Zara said with fake sympathy has she attempt to hold Lillian hands, but was avoided like a plague.

Lilian smiled sweetly has she replied her back with her dose of sarcasm " oh no dear not at all I just have what people call Job you know what real adult do to earn money not just hop off guys car like some people do am sure you know people like that don't you." Lilian enjoyed watching her flinch at her what she was interfering and she did not give her a chance to reply before continuing. " and maybe you need to start seeing a different doctor now I can see wrinkles all over your face, Botox must not be working anymore for you sweetie, better be careful you don't want to wake up tomorrow and have a face like me would you panda eye and all of that but I guess that will be better than a surgical failure face won't it." She asked without expecting an answer either way. She continued smiling at her as fakely as possible.

" you mean little witch, how dare you insult my face. that is why it is so hard being kind to people of your kind. You are so undeserving of my time." Zara finally had an outburst when she could no longer pretend again glaring at Lilian.

" Did I ever ask for your attention you old witch ehn, and for the record my name is Lilian call me Lily flower or whatever silly name again and I can assure you won't like what will come out of my mouth next." Lilian said firmly pointing a finger to Zara mouth.

" Oh really am so scared boo hoo I will say whatever I want you are not the boss of me and seeing you have so much power to show off maybe you should go avenge your friend that was brutally dumped by her boyfriend." Zara replied mockingly, glad that she have finally gotten the reaction she wants from Lilian, who got frozen in her track with the smug look wiped off her face after hearing what she said.

" who are you referring to, explain more clearly." Lilian asked trying to maintain a brave point ignoring the bad feeling in her gut.

" oops my bad I forgot she is no longer your friend, didn't she dump all that lame group friends of yours because her man did not like you." Zara asked, totally enjoying as Lilian grew mute unable to refute her claim. By now Lilian suspicion we're more than half confirmed but she still stood still and waited Zara to drop the rest of the news.

" Are you not going to beg me to tell you who am referring to and what happened?" Zara asked

"Girl you better say whatever it you've got to say if not am leaving you and we both know, you won't be sleeping well if you don't say the gist." Lilian said a acting as nonchalant as possible.

Zara rolled her eyes but still ended up speaking " well I guess you already know am referring to Sophie, one of my girls told me they saw that her man Ken or Ben whatever his name is celebrating the other night in the club that he is finally free talking some sh*t about your girl and everything with his friends. And since almost everyone in this town know that they were together it kind of circulated around fast am surprised you were not aware. You guys behave dead sometimes you know one of the reasons I can't stand you all. Serves that girl right behaving like a queen because she found a rich guy, well now she is alone and dry feeling miserable now surely got what is coming for her."

" Firstly I don't need to feed on gossip like you do with your friends to stay

alive. Secondly neither my friends nor I need anyone to behave like queens that is what we already although am sure that is something you can't relate with. Thirdly if what you are saying even turns out to be true well I speak for Sophie when I say this 'Good radiance to bad rubbish' he was never worth the effort anyway, so there is no how she would be miserable. Since you are done talking am going to leave you now, my time is precious you see." Lilian finished saying that then using her cart pushed her out of the way.

" wait,what !! that's all you to say to everything I just told you, where are you going to." Zara was very frustrated at how unbothered Lilian seem about what she said. Rolling her eyes has she passed her side Lilian said with a very loud voice " Get a life Zara you are too old to be gossipping." Embarrassing Zara has many eyes were now on her.

No longer paying any attention to what she might replied with because although she tried to act unaffected by what she has just heard, she has actually been destabilized by it.

Unable to continue her shopping she left the supermarket and boarded a taxi home, deep in thought about what she heard concerning Sophie. To confirm the news she tried checking her social media if anything will be there but she was unable to find her handles, then she remembered that she had a actually blocked her on every page when she was really angry now she can't access any of her information She laid her head on the window and sighs feeling disturbed and torn. She always new that the love Sophie was always going on about would end this way but a part of her still wished that she could have been proven wrong but now once again she is right. Love is a messed up emotion to be betting life on, not worth relying on in anyway. Lilian thought as the cab speed down the road.
