CHAPTER 1:

Loud cries, mourns, and pain occupied the atmosphere, as I couldn’t bring myself to accept the fact that my father Malvin Simon had left this world. ‘‘I stared at his grave, tears streaming down her eyes, I wish I had access to your company’s money, Dad; I would have carried out an autopsy on your body.’’ But that husband of mine kept the company’s money away from me because he thinks I’m not able to handle it. ‘‘I'm sure he might have a hand in your death, I thought.’’ I’m sorry that this has to be your fate, Dad. I placed my hands on his coffin while tears flowed down my eyes. When I glanced at my recovering mother ‘Ivy’ my memory took me back to the past when my father forced me to marry a heartless man because of money. I dusted the thoughts out of my mind, and walked straight to Ivy’s side where I lay down with her, I gave her a few words of motivation and we took our leave for home. After I took Ivy to the hospital; I headed back home, and straight into the shower. I took my bath and laid on my bed to rest and forget the day. Only for me to hear the voices of two individuals laughing loudly, I recalled that my husband’s lover Shera was still around. I tried to sleep just to let go of my problems but those intentions were cut off when I heard the doorknob open without knocking. I turned my head in surprise only to come into eye contact with Alex, my husband. I got up from the bed with force and questioned him. What do you want Alex? Why are you in my room? And what are those documents in your hands? Alex smiled, showing no hint of emotion on his face. ‘‘Those are the divorce papers, Lillian, Sign them and have your freedom.’’ He said I stared into his eyes trying to find out why he smiled at me in such a manner, only to get dumbfounded by what I read In the divorce papers. I slowly turned the pages of the paper and tears welled up in my eyes. I was silent but I still had to express myself. ‘‘George Alex, I called his full name to show my sincerity. There’s no way I’m signing this paper’’ I said with a low voice while tears still flowed out of my eyes. ‘‘You can’t force me Alex, I won't give you my father’s company. I am not signing those papers.’’ I said while I moved back with worry but still maintaining my ground. Alex held my upper arms with his sharp fingers ‘‘you don’t have a choice Lillian if you don’t sign those papers then you are losing your mother to death.’’ he yelled I tried to get off his grip but he wouldn’t let go. ‘‘Alex, you can say whatever you want but my father’s company belongs to me and there’s no way I am giving it out’’ I cried. ‘‘Alex smiled at me with a kiss on the forehead ‘Oh Lillian my kitten.’ Wipe those tears and make a decision between life and a company.’’ I forced myself out of his grip and said ‘‘You must be dumb Alex to think that I will fall for this trick’’, out of my room I pointed to the door showing him his way out. He sat on my bed and held my hands to forcefully sit with him, then he brought out his phone to show me a video. ‘You can have the phone Lillian’ he stretched out his hand offering me his phone and see what happens if you don’t sign these papers. My heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t breathe for a moment but he brought me back to life with his words. ‘‘Those people are fake doctors, Lillian, they are just waiting on my command to inject toxins into her body and she won’t see the face of this earth again’’ he said showing me a nonchalant attitude. I turned to face him ‘My father just passed away and now you want to take my only family away.’ How cruel can you be? ‘‘I wish I knew that all these while you never loved me, you only showed me love and care because you needed my father’s connection to claim the senator’s position.’’ ‘‘But guess what Alex I said while I rolled my eyes ‘you can do whatever you want.’ I won’t sign these documents.’’ That company is the only thing my father has and I can’t give it out. I spoke with faith. ‘‘Lillian, don't forget that this same company is the only property your father has, and it went bankrupt; so I invested in it with my money.’’ ‘‘It's my company, Lillian. Since we are getting a divorce I should claim my money back, or you could pay me and have your father’s company,’’ Alex mocked me. ‘Alex, there is no way I can pay you now; but, if you give me some time I could hustle for your money.’ please don't take my father's company I pleaded. He raised his eyebrows and said ‘‘I don't do charity work Lillian. It's either I'm getting the money now or you say goodbye to your father and his company for good.’’ I got upset and poured out my frustrations. ‘‘you don't have any right to claim my father’s company, you had an agreement with him.’’ If I marry you, you would invest into his company, now he's dead and all of a sudden it's your company? I asked him with anger in my tone He swiped through his phone showing me a nonchalant attitude. What are you doing Alex? I asked him out of curiosity and fear, ‘‘I’m calling the fake doctors Lillian, or what does it look like I am doing? Silly girl.’’ He spat out from his mouth. Please don’t do this Alex. I beg of you. I held his legs while I knelt down pleading with teary eyes. ‘I will accept the divorce but not my father’s company and my mother’s life.’ ‘That’s the only thing I have left in this world pls don’t take it away,’ He stood up to walk out of my room but turned back and said with a little smile on his cheeks ‘‘Lillian you only have this night to process this and make a decision or else she will lose her life no mercy this time Lillian.’’ He closed the door on his back. Oh my God I’m in trouble, I slowly sat on the floor while I cried ‘‘Dad I blame you for all this why do I have to pass through such pain and crisis because of your greediness.’’ ‘’I forgive you Dad, ‘but I hope you forgive me for this decision I am about to make.’ I picked up the documents and placed my signature in the rightful places.’’
