CHAPTER 38 “Margo, stay here with the girls.” “Are ya goin’ after them men?” Chaco shook his head. “No. I think they’re going to be busy for a while…with…” “Skinnin’ and guttin’ those two guards?” Margo whispered. Looking around to make sure the girls couldn’t hear him, and keeping his voice as low as Margo’s, Chaco responded. “Yes, I think they’ll take care of their most recent …er, business … before coming after us. I’m going for the horses. Keep your firearm loaded and within reach.” It took Chaco over an hour to round up the horses. He found them on their way back to the Sanctuary where they’d stopped to graze. Chaco clicked his tongue and called to them. He held out a pinecone hoping the horses might think it fruit. It took some tries, but the ploy worked. Both horses were tame
