I had seen that face before. I had heard that name before. It was no wonder she seemed so familiar to me, even though I had never seen her before.
The face and name of hers I would never forget in my life. Not because she was the new girl in a small town that everyone was talking about. That would probably have been the last thing to catch my attention. I had no intention of getting involved in the gossip of the humans around. On her first day of high school, I was expecting the same emotions I received from all the newcomers who changed schools mid-year—anxiety, worry, and the urgent need to find their place in this school, and needless to say, I hadn't even bothered to look at her.
