33 “Mike!” Elise covered her mouth with her hands, watching in horror as the orange and black Ford Capri rolled along the dirt. The crowd gasped in unison, most of them covering their mouths as well. By the time Mike’s car came to a stop on its wheels, Elise had scaled the barrier, shaking off Rachel, who tried to stop her going to Mike’s aid. “You’re not allowed on the track, Elise.” Rachel sprinted after her, jumping the barrier. Mike’s Capri lay battered and bruised, the bodywork dented and crumpled, but the general shape remained intact. When she reached the driver’s side, Mike was in the seat. “Mike, speak to me.” He shook his head, semi-conscious.
