Chapter Six

1635 Words
Connor continued to stare down at Olivia with what looked like concern but he was laughing at her silently. "Yes." Olivia bit out around her growing anger. Why did everything have to be a fight with him? Here she was willing to admit she actually needed the little imp and he was goading her. "Liv is there a reason you're giving the new kid a death glare?" Henry, Olivia's best guy friend asked while putting a hand on her shoulder. Connor's eyes narrowed and darkened simultaneously. "Apparently they already know each other." Kitty chimed in getting to her feet as well. They were causing quite a scene now and everyone in the courtyard gave up the pretense of not watching them. "How?" Henry asked clearly confused. "She's my mate." Olivia coughed and sputtered while Kitty turned wide disbelieving eyes on her. "Uh, Connor, a word? Please, over here." Olivia stepped forward and pulled his perfect button up sleeve until they were well out of earshot. "What is the matter with you? You can't just show up at my school and start telling my friends I'm your 'mate'." She hissed at him. "I go to school here too actually." He snapped back no longer amused with the situation. "Since when?" "Since I enrolled this weekend. And furthermore I will tell every male of every species from here to kingdom come that you are my mate!" He retorted with an angry hand wave. "No you will not!" Olivia whispered hotly. Connor gave her a look that clearly said oh really? "Pray tell me why am I going to go along with this ridiculous request?" "Because A, when you say the word 'mate' in normal society it implies s*x and I don't need everyone I go to school with branding me a slut, thank you. Two, I already told you I am not your mate and lastly because you can't just show up randomly at school and announce something like that. I haven't told anyone anything about you. It will be suspicious and frankly I don't need to deal with that shit." "You do realize you just mixed three different listing types right?" "Don't change the subject." His eyes softened and his posture relaxed. "I see your point. I apologize for causing you trouble. What would you like me to say when asked that question?" She chewed the inside of her cheek while she thought about it. With a sigh and drooping shoulders she resigned herself to her current situation. "Just tell people we're dating, I guess. We met at the mall or something I don't know." She looked up to see Connor's eyes which had turned almost yellow again. She felt her own widen. What did she say? "And what does the human concept of 'dating' include?" He asked in a deep voice leaning really close to her. She tried to pull back but his scent flooded her senses and had her body moving closer to him. "Well there is typically the whole part about going on dates, getting to know each other, no dating other people…" he growled at that and leaned his face down close to her neck. She heard him sniffing but instead of being offended she had to fight back the urge to touch him. "And there are sometimes public displays of affection." She was whispering again but he was close enough to hear. He could probably hear her if she whispered all the way across the courtyard anyway. That thought snapped her back to the present and she remembered where she was and what she was doing. Rationality won out and she put her hands on his arms and pushed him away from her gently. He looked down with the question clearly written in those golden eyes. "You're into this why are you stopping me?" "How about we're at school? People are watching? I'm still pissed at you? Any of this ringing a bell?" "You don't smell angry at me." She flushed and shook her head. He sighed and shook his own as if to clear it. "Fine. I'll go along with this 'dating' of yours." "Uh Connor, your eyes are yellow again." He cursed under his breath. "Just give me a minute I need to…calm down." "Sure." She turned to walk back to her friends when he grabbed her shoulder and pulled her into him. He kissed her soundly on the lips holding onto her jaw and making that purring noise again. She froze with surprise and then blinked several times. It wasn’t until he’d released her that she realized he had an unbreakable grip on her wrists and was tilted away so she couldn’t knee him in the balls again. "Make sure your 'friend' doesn't touch you again right now. I don't think I could control myself." "Okay." Her voice shook a bit but she wasn't sure what the culprit was. Lust or fear? "See you at lunch then?" He nodded then turned and walked into the building. Olivia was left to the mercy of her friends. Once she rejoined the group Kitty was on her. "Oh my god Liv, why did you not tell me?" "Well it's kind of new and I haven’t gotten a chance being sick and all." "You never even told me you met him." She accused. "I didn't? Sorry I thought I had." Kitty was angry but the bell rang and saved her from further discussion. Thankfully their morning classes were nearly all the way around the building from each other so they had no time for dawdling. Of course, it was just procrastination. Kitty would not be derailed from her mission of finding out what the deal was with Olivia and Connor. Olivia was having a hard enough time deciding for herself. Man he did something to her. She'd dated before but nothing had been this intense. She thought she had already experienced her first love but no one anywhere had ever made her body sing like that. As if ever single cell of her very being recognized him and wanted him close. The whole thought process was absurd. He was a dangerous animal that had just taken her life and thrown it on its head without so much as a care to what she wanted. She just had so many questions now. Was she really accepting this? Well yeah, she pretty much already had. She was a werewolf. She tried the word around in her head for a while but it still felt abnormal. She was attracted to Connor sure. He was exotic and dangerous with just enough of a possessive edge to get her blood racing. The fact that all of those things were turn-ons was news to her and she wasn't sure she was comfortable yet with that side of her psyche. The bell rang causing her to jolt and realize she had spaced out for her entire AP physics class. With a groan she trudged out the door. Her next class was with Kitty. Their teacher decided to give them a study period to work on their lab projects, which left Kitty free to pester Olivia. She was as prepared as she was going to get anyway so she might as well get it over with. "Okay start from the beginning. And don't leave anything out." Kitty gave her a dead serious face. They took out their books so they could at least pretend to be working. "Well I met him at the mall when I was there with my parents a couple weekends ago. We started talking and he can be really persistent. I mean I don't think he even understands the meaning of the word no. But anyway, I ended up giving him my number, we started talking, and he convinced me to go to a movie with him." "Did he kiss you like he did in the courtyard this morning? Cause damn Liv, that was hot." Olivia giggled. "Well yes and no. I mean he did kiss me after we went to the movie but it was more intense I guess." Kitty made moon eyes at her which had Olivia rolling hers. "So you guys are a thing?" "I guess." Olivia shrugged. "He's pretty possessive." "What was all that stuff about being his 'mate'?" Olivia sighed. "He's…a dork and loves to read books about werewolves. I think he starts thinking like them sometimes." Olivia laughed again and Kitty joined in. "Wow. Just wow. I mean, I feel kinda bad for Henry but oh well. You snooze you lose." "What are you babbling about?" Kitty gave her a look of pure disbelief. "Oh please. Liv, Henry is totally in love with you! Seriously you can be really dense." Olivia sat there and thought about that. Henry had never seemed to show more than a friendly interest in her before. "Did he say that to you?" Kitty shook her head. "I just know." "I think you're wrong." She rolled her eyes and made a 'w' with her fingers at Olivia. The teacher came over and gave them the hairy eye so they actually started working in earnest. Olivia mulled all of the news over in her head starting to dread the fact that lunch was next period. No doubt Connor would be waiting impatiently. She needed answers but she didn't want to hurt her friends. She glanced at the clock and happened to pass over Molly's table. The girl was glaring at Olivia with pure malice. Olivia sighed. Possessive werewolves, friends who possibly had serious feelings, and the Queen Bee out for blood. Could her day get more stressful? The minute she thought it she regretted it. The answer to that question was always yes.
