Chapter Eight

Olivia stared at herself in the mirror of her bathroom. Her hotel shift had been busy enough to pass by without her noticing much. She certainly hadn’t had extra time to spare thinking about Connor. But she did now. The more she thought about what had gone down between them at school today the more confused she got. She was right to be angry with him, she was sure of it. But still, he had a very good point. They had to figure something out because whatever was going on now was not working. She didn’t like to be pushed in any direction. The more she was pushed, the more she dug her heels in. She sighed and went back to contemplating her face. At least that was slightly easier. She could not perceive anything extraordinary about her appearance no matter how long she stared. Why was he so obsessed with her? He didn’t know her well enough to want her personality and she certainly wasn’t seeing the physical side of it. What else was there? Of course, she thought he was frighteningly handsome but so did the entire student body and half the faculty. He was intense. So much more so than her last boyfriend. She sighed again and was about to move away from the mirror when she heard the sound of her window opening. Panic flooded through her body making her blood race and her heart sprint. She hesitated trying to decide what to do when she heard the soft sound of feet landing on her carpet. The softness of the sound should have tipped her off but she was too busy panicking to think straight. By the time Connor stuck his head around the door frame into the bathroom she was holding a curling iron that she never used like a weapon and crouched down waiting for the intruder. His eyes widened and he shoved his hands in front of him when he saw her. “Hey there, sorry I didn’t mean to scare you but you didn’t answer when I knocked.” It took her a moment but Olivia straightened into a standing position. She didn’t relinquish the weapon/curling iron until she got her breathing back under control. Connor waited patiently with his hands still out. “You can’t just bounce into my room at all hours of the night. I have parents.” “They’re asleep. I checked.” She sighed and moved past him into her bedroom. She flopped onto her bed with another sigh and rubbed at the back of her neck. “I wanted to apolo…” “Wait can I go first?” Connor’s eyes widened but he nodded. “Okay so I need to apologize. I guess I haven’t really thought about how difficult this all must be for you and I’m sorry.” He took a deep breath and sat down on the bed beside her. “I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have been so gruff with you earlier. Temper control is still something I’m working on.” He added a rueful grin. Olivia smiled and shrugged her shoulders. They sat there quietly for a minute listening to the sounds of the house. “Well look at us being all adult and stuff.” He grinned down at her impishly. “Yeah well don’t get used to it.” She said, adding an eye roll for good measure. He flopped backwards onto her bed and let his knees bend off the edge. “I wouldn’t dream of it.” He said with a happy looking smile. He closed his eyes and sighed happily, playing absently with the fabric of his shirt. She turned onto her stomach and lay down beside him. “So can I ask you something?” “Mmhmm.” He said without opening his eyes. “Why me?” He opened one eye and looked at her clearly confused. “It’s just, you don’t know me enough to want my personality and it can’t be a physical thing so what is it? Why are you so drawn to me?” He frowned but closed his eye again. “It’s very hard to explain as there aren’t really any human words that can describe it completely. But what drew me to you was your smell.” She felt her eyes widen. “My smell.” He nodded. “Your scent is perfectly designed just for me.” “But what if we don’t get along? What if we don’t like each other?” “That isn’t possible. We were made for each other.” She sighed. “I guess I don’t understand that.” He smiled. “It’s an animal thing.” He opened his eyes again and turned to her. Those gray eyes were nearly vibrating with emotion as they bored into hers. “You can do or say whatever you want with me. I want you to know that. I might get pissed off or something but it won’t change the way I feel.” She eyed him skeptically. “What if I wanted to kick you in the balls?” He smirked. “Again? I’d rather you didn’t but I wouldn’t hate you for it.” She sighed and smiled back at him. He closed his eyes again and sighed contently. She studied his face while she was able to and nearly sighed herself. He was as close to perfect as she could imagine. No scars or stubble at all. Just smooth lines and strong chiseled features. She moved closer to him and froze when her mattress creaked but he didn’t open his eyes. She was overtaken by the impulse to kiss him all of a sudden and found herself leaning down towards him before she’d really decided to. The instant their lips met his eyes flew open and stared at her. She pulled back, embarrassed, when he rose up onto his forearms and kissed her again. He watched her as he gently pressed their lips back together. She was hesitant at first, not really sure why she wanted to kiss him so much or why the feel of his bare arm against her thigh was making her feel so connected to him. She slowly moved one of her hands up his shoulder, then onto his neck and then traced the edge of his jaw. She felt him shudder slightly and then the purring noise started up again. Feeling more confident she stroked his hair with both hands burying them in the long locks when he parted his lips and licked at her bottom one. She felt his hand move to her thigh and when she gasped their tongues met in the middle. Suddenly she was on her back with Connor pressing down on top of her. He was kissing her in that rough possessive way he had the first time. The way that made her body respond even when she was rank pissed off at him. His hands were on her hips and traveling up underneath the t shirt she was wearing. She should have been stopping him but all she could think of was getting him closer. Preferably with less clothes between them. She pulled him closer to her by exerting force on his head and smiled against his mouth when he growled then obliged her. Soon they were so wrapped in each other that air couldn’t pass between them. He followed the line of her jaw with kisses and then proceeded down her neck. She managed not to moan until he sank his teeth into her neck. When the sound escaped her mouth he rocked his hips against hers drawing a gasp from them both. The sound of footsteps hitting the kitchen floor above them stopped the passion in its tracks. Connor dropped his head to her shoulder panting and she took a moment to try and breathe. He was the one who backed out of their entanglement with a rueful smile and a chuckle. “Okay then.” She blushed hotly and rearranged her top. “I had questions.” She said with a small laugh. “I’ll answer them I promise.” He rearranged his own clothing and ran his hand through his hair. He stared down at her with a very masculine smile of satisfaction that had her blush increasing. “What?” She asked self consciously. “It’s nice to be appreciated.” She smirked and started combing through her hair with her fingers. “Yeah well it would be nice to have some self control.” “Overrated.” He said with an impish hand wave. She turned her head to reach the back of her hair when she suddenly felt the heat from his body way closer than it had been before. She turned to face him again and found him leaning down over her with his fists planted into the bed on either side of her. Her heart sped off excitedly. He smiled and leaned down to kiss her softly again. “I’ll be waiting for you down the road. Then you can ask your questions while we walk to school how does that sound?” “Like I’m less likely to jump you.” She said with another smile. He leaned down and kissed her again, this time a little less gently than he had before. “Likewise. By the tree at the end of your street then.” He leaned down and inhaled her scent before climbing back out the window. As soon as he was gone Olivia headed for her shower. She needed to cool way down before attempting to speak with her parents.
