The Girl He Couldn't Ignore

Chapter Two Lily sat stiffly across from Damian’s massive desk, trying her best not to look nervous. “This has to be a joke,” she muttered. Damian leaned back in his chair, watching her carefully. “Does this office look like a place for jokes?” “No,” she admitted quietly. The man barely smiled. Everything about him was intimidating — from his deep voice to the cold expression permanently resting on his face. A knock interrupted them. Without waiting for permission, a tall blonde woman walked in confidently. She was stunning in a tight red dress and expensive heels. Her sharp eyes landed instantly on Lily. “And who is this?” she asked coldly. Damian’s expression hardened slightly. “Olivia, not now.” So this was Olivia. Lily recognized her immediately from magazines. Olivia Romano. Daughter of a powerful politician and rumored future fiancée of Damian Knight. The woman folded her arms. “You skipped dinner with my father for… her?” Lily stood awkwardly. “I should probably leave—” “Sit down,” Damian ordered calmly. Her stomach flipped. Olivia laughed bitterly. “Interesting. Since when do waitresses sit in your office?” “Since I hired one.” Silence filled the room. Olivia’s eyes burned with jealousy as she looked Lily up and down. “You always did enjoy collecting pretty little things.” Before Lily could respond, another man suddenly burst into the office. “Boss, we have a problem.” He stopped after noticing Lily and Olivia. The newcomer looked dangerous — tattoos peeking beneath his sleeves, dark hair messy, expression unreadable. Damian stood immediately. “What happened?” “The shipment was attacked last night.” The atmosphere changed instantly. Cold. Deadly. Lily could practically feel the tension. Damian grabbed his suit jacket calmly. “Who did it?” “We think it was the DeLuca family.” A dangerous look crossed Damian’s face. “Prepare the car.” Olivia sighed dramatically. “Business again?” Damian ignored her completely before turning to Lily. “You’ll start tomorrow.” “What? I didn’t even accept the job yet!” His dark eyes locked onto hers. “You will.” Then he walked out with the tattooed man, leaving Lily completely speechless. Olivia scoffed loudly the second they disappeared. “You should quit while you can.” Lily frowned. “Excuse me?” Olivia stepped closer. “Girls like you always fall for him.” Her voice turned colder. “And girls who fall for Damian Knight always get hurt.” For the first time since entering the building, Lily felt genuine fear crawl down her spine. Because deep down… She was already starting to believe it.
