Chapter Three
Lily regretted accepting the job almost immediately.
The moment she stepped onto the executive floor the next morning, every employee turned to stare at her.
Whispers followed her everywhere.
“Is that the new assistant?”
“She’s younger than I expected.”
“Do you think she knows about Olivia?”
Lily ignored them and tightened her grip on her bag.
A woman with short black hair approached her desk.
“I’m Sophia,” she said politely. “Head of Human Resources.”
Finally. Someone normal.
Sophia handed her a stack of files. “Mr. Knight is extremely difficult to work for.”
“That’s comforting.”
Sophia laughed softly. “You’ll survive… maybe.”
Before Lily could reply, the elevator doors opened.
The entire floor fell silent instantly.
Damian walked out wearing a charcoal-grey suit, followed by the tattooed man from yesterday.
His eyes landed on Lily immediately.
And stayed there.
The intensity in his stare made her nervous.
“Office. Now,” he said calmly.
Lily followed him quickly while curious employees watched like hungry vultures.
The moment the office doors closed, Damian loosened his tie slightly.
“You’re late.”
Her eyes widened. “It’s literally 8:00.”
“You should’ve been here at 7:45.”
“This isn’t the military.”
“No,” he replied coldly. “It’s worse.”
Lily stared at him in disbelief.
This man seriously enjoyed stressing people.
Damian walked toward his desk before tossing her a file.
“Read it.”
She opened it slowly and nearly choked.
“These numbers are insane.”
“That’s because my company makes insane money.”
“You’re arrogant.”
His lips twitched slightly. “You’re honest.”
Before she could answer, the tattooed man smirked from the couch.
“I like her already.”
Damian shot him a warning glance.
“This is Luca.”
Luca grinned lazily. “Professional troublemaker.”
Lily blinked. “That’s… an interesting title.”
“You have no idea.”
Suddenly the office phone rang.
Damian answered calmly, but his expression darkened within seconds.
“What do you mean she’s gone?”
Lily watched his jaw tighten dangerously.
“I said find her.”
He slammed the phone down hard enough to make her jump.
“Problem?” Luca asked carefully.
Damian’s eyes turned ice cold.
“My sister disappeared.”
