Chapter Twelve
The police arrived twenty minutes later.
The building was locked down.
Employees were escorted out one by one while security officers searched every floor.
Yet despite the chaos, Damian refused to leave Lily's side.
“I told you I'm fine,” she said for what felt like the tenth time.
“You were held at gunpoint.”
“And I'm still alive.”
Damian's jaw tightened.
Luca watched the exchange with amusement.
“This is the most protective I've ever seen him.”
“Shut up, Luca.”
“No.”
Arabella suddenly appeared carrying two cups of coffee.
“One for Lily. One for me. Trauma makes me thirsty.”
Lily accepted the drink gratefully.
“Thanks.”
Arabella sat beside her and smiled.
“You know everyone in the company is going to talk about this tomorrow.”
Lily frowned.
“Talk about what?”
Arabella looked genuinely surprised.
“The fact that my brother nearly killed a man because he touched you.”
Lily almost choked on her coffee.
Across the room, Damian pretended not to hear.
Ethan laughed quietly.
“She has a point.”
Olivia, who had remained unusually silent all evening, finally stood.
Her eyes landed on Lily.
For once, there was no anger.
Only sadness.
“I should go.”
Nobody stopped her.
Not even Damian.
That seemed to hurt her more than anything.
As she walked away, Bianca appeared beside Lily.
“You made a powerful enemy tonight.”
Lily looked confused.
“Who?”
Bianca smirked.
“Several people, actually.”
Before Lily could ask what she meant, a security officer rushed into the room.
“Mr. Knight.”
Damian stood immediately.
“What is it?”
“We identified one of the attackers.”
The room went silent.
The officer swallowed nervously.
“He worked inside Knight Holdings.”
Shock spread across everyone's face.
An insider?
Someone from the company had helped the attackers.
Damian's expression became terrifyingly cold.
“Bring me his file.”
The officer hesitated.
“Sir... there's something else.”
“What?”
The officer looked directly at Lily.
“He wasn't targeting you by accident.”
Lily felt her blood run cold.
“What do you mean?”
The officer took a deep breath.
“According to his messages... you were the target from the beginning.”
And suddenly, everyone in the room turned to look at her.
