Chapter Ten
Lily’s heart nearly stopped.
The sound of the gunshot echoed through the building, followed by distant screaming downstairs.
“What the hell was that?” Ethan cursed.
Emergency lights suddenly flickered on, casting the hallway in dim red light.
Everything instantly felt terrifying.
Damian’s expression turned deadly calm.
Which somehow scared Lily even more.
“Stay here,” he ordered.
Luca appeared from the stairway holding a gun.
An actual gun.
“We have intruders,” he said sharply.
Lily’s stomach dropped.
Arabella looked pale for the first time. “Are they inside the building?”
“Yes.”
Employees downstairs screamed again.
The sound made Lily’s chest tighten with panic.
Olivia suddenly rushed out of the elevator looking terrified.
“There are armed men in the lobby!”
Damian grabbed Luca’s extra weapon immediately.
Ethan cursed under his breath. “Security failed completely.”
Bianca stepped out from another hallway, surprisingly calm despite the chaos.
“Well,” she murmured, “this escalated quickly.”
Damian’s eyes darkened. “Did your family do this?”
Bianca looked offended. “If we wanted you dead, Damian, you wouldn’t see us coming.”
Another gunshot rang out.
Closer this time.
Lily jumped in fear.
Without warning, Damian grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind him protectively.
“Listen carefully,” he said coldly. “You stay beside me no matter what happens.”
Her pulse raced wildly.
“Damian—”
“Do not argue with me right now.”
For the first time…
She obeyed immediately.
Heavy footsteps echoed from the stairway.
Then several masked men appeared holding weapons.
Everything happened too fast.
One of the men raised his gun.
Luca fired first.
The hallway exploded into chaos.
Arabella screamed.
Employees ran in every direction.
Olivia ducked behind Ethan while Bianca grabbed a fallen security guard’s weapon with shocking ease.
Lily stood frozen in complete terror.
Then suddenly—
A masked man grabbed her violently from behind.
“Well,” he laughed darkly, pressing a gun against her head, “looks like we found Damian Knight’s weakness.”
