Chapter Five
Arabella Knight was nothing like Lily expected.
For starters, she talked too much.
“So,” Arabella said while sitting on Damian’s desk, completely ignoring his glare, “how exactly did my emotionally unavailable brother kidnap you?”
“I didn’t kidnap her,” Damian replied coldly.
Luca snorted loudly. “That’s debatable.”
Lily tried not to laugh.
Arabella pointed dramatically at Luca. “See? Even the criminal agrees.”
“I prefer businessman,” Luca corrected.
“You literally threatened a man with a knife last week.”
“He deserved it.”
Lily stared at them in disbelief.
Was this family always insane?
Damian pinched the bridge of his nose impatiently. “Can everyone stop talking for five seconds?”
Silence.
Then Arabella leaned closer to Lily and whispered loudly, “He gets grumpy when he’s stressed.”
“I can hear you,” Damian said flatly.
“I know.”
Lily bit back a smile.
For the first time since entering this strange world, things almost felt normal.
Almost.
Suddenly Damian’s phone buzzed.
The moment he checked the screen, his expression darkened.
Luca noticed immediately. “Problem?”
Damian stood up slowly.
“Stay here,” he ordered Lily.
That definitely sounded suspicious.
“Why?”
“Because I said so.”
Lily crossed her arms. “You keep saying things like that as if I’m supposed to obey automatically.”
Arabella looked entertained already.
Damian stepped closer.
“You really enjoy challenging me, don’t you?”
Her heartbeat quickened instantly.
The tension between them became dangerously heavy again.
Before Lily could respond, another voice interrupted them.
“Well, this explains why Olivia is losing her mind downstairs.”
Everyone turned toward the office entrance.
A tall man wearing glasses leaned casually against the doorway.
Unlike Luca, he looked calm and polished.
But his sharp eyes missed nothing.
“Ethan,” Damian said coldly.
The newcomer smiled slightly before looking at Lily.
“So this is the girl causing chaos already.”
Lily blinked. “I literally just got here.”
Ethan laughed softly. “Trust me. Around Damian Knight, chaos follows naturally.”
And somehow…
Lily was starting to realize he might be right.
