Chapter 3

Rasmus's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze intense. "Let's just say I've always had my eyes on you. I like you, Wendy." My heart skipped a beat. "What?" Shelby exclaimed, "Oh my God!" I looked at her, confused. How was this exciting? What iswrong with this girl? I was still trying to process what Rasmus had just said when he continued, "I'm sorry I'm saying this now, and it's sounding like a surprise to you, but I would like...I would like your friend to be here as a witness to my feelings for you. Will you be my girlfriend, Wendy?" I didn’t say anything for two minutes and Shelby chimed in, "Seriously, Wendy?" I took a few steps backward, apologizing. "I'm so sorry, Rasmus. This is a shock, and I don't think I'm ready for a relationship." I turned and ran out of the mall, leaving Shelby behind. She soon caught up to me, asking, "What the hell is wrong with you, Wendy?" I replied, "Seriously, how can someone I barely know just approach me and tell me he want me to be his girlfriend? And you expect me to be excited or say yes?" Shelby countered, "Yeah, we've known this guy since high school, and he's cute. At least you could've given him a chance." I shot back, "Giving him a chance for what? What do you even know about relationships? Are you in a relationship, Shelby?" Shelby snapped, "Seriously, just because I'm not in a relationship doesn't mean I can't tell you anything." I clarified, "Shelby, this shouldn't make us fight. I just don't want to be his girlfriend. There's nothing wrong with that." Shelby teased, "You left that cute guy standing there." I retorted, "If you were that attracted to him, why don't you be his girlfriend?" I started walking away, and Shelby shouted from behind, "I haven't even gotten what I came here to buy! Now you expect us to leave?" I stopped, walked back to where Shelby was standing, and suggested, "Let's just go to another shopping mall. This place has caused me so much trouble." Shelby joked, "Ah, seriously, what kind of human being are you?" I smiled, "The kind that's perfect to be your friend." We both laughed and then took a cab to another shopping mall. When we arrived, Shelby picked out what she wanted, but I didn't see anything that caught my eye. Even if I had, I didn't have any money to buy anything. Before long, I found myself back at my lonely house. Nana was seated outside, waiting for me. The darkness hinted that I had returned later than expected, and I knew Nana wasn't pleased. I greeted her with a hug. "Nana, I'm sorry. You shouldn't have waited up." Nana's expression was stern. "Where have you been?" I sighed. "Nana, seriously, I already told you I was going to Shelby's place." Nana's eyes narrowed. "Then you stayed out this late?" I shrugged. "Nana, I'm an adult." Nana's voice was firm. "I'm only looking out for you. I've been assigned to protect you right from when you were born, and it's my duty to do so. You're not allowed to come back this late." "I know you're looking out for me, Nana, but please don't start. I already had a bad day. You're not even asking me how my day went. I know you care, but my head is so filled up. I just feel like I'm alone in this world. I don't even know what I'm doing or where I belong. How can I be a wolf without my pack?" I felt tears welling up in my eyes. "I don't even know who I am. I have to keep everything in secret - my transformation, my true nature. I'm sick and tired of all this, Nana. You better start thinking of when you're going to tell me the truth, because I don't think I can take this much longer." Nana's expression turned stern. "You're going to shut up and enter this house now." But I stood my ground. "No, Nana. I've been doing everything you've asked me to do, but this time, no. This time, I'm saying no." I turned and ran, my anger and frustration boiling over. I sprinted into the woods, the trees blurring together as I transformed into a werewolf. I ran wildly, my enhanced senses guiding me as my feet pounded against the earth, my claws digging into the dirt with each stride. I let out a loud, anguished howl, the sound echoing through the forest. I scratched at the trees, my claws digging into the bark, as if trying to tear out my frustrations. As I ran, a sudden impact knocked me off my paws. I fell hard to the ground, dazed and disoriented. A werewolf figure loomed over me, its eyes glowing in the dark. It raised its claw, ready to strike. But before it could attack, another figure burst from the shadows. A large, powerful werewolf man tackled the first werewolf, pinning it to the ground. The two werewolves clashed, their growls and snarls filling the air. The werewolf man quickly overpowered the other, and with a swift movement, he knocked it out. He turned to me, his eyes locked onto mine. I tried to see him clearly, but my vision was blurry. He gently picked me up, cradling me in his arms. I looked up at him, trying to make out his features. But before I could see him clearly, everything went dark, and I passed out. The next morning, I woke up screaming, "Nana!" Nana rushed into my room, concern etched on her face. "Wendy, how are you? What's wrong?" I sat up, still shaking. "I...I don't know…How did I get here?" Nana's expression turned curious. "You don't remember? I just heard a knock on the door, and when I came out, I saw you lying in front of the door." I whispered to myself, "Guess he brought me home." Nana's eyes narrowed. "What did you say?" I shook my head. "Nothing." Nana's voice turned stern. "Wendy, what happened last night?" I took a deep breath. "I was attacked by a werewolf in the woods...but got rescued by another me. Guess he was the one who brought me home." Nana's face turned red with anger. "How could you put yourself in danger like that? What were you thinking?" I looked down, shamefaced. "I'm sorry, Nana. I was just fed up and too angry." Nana's voice softened slightly, but her words were laced with concern. "Wendy, you're starting to draw attention to this place, and I won't have that. We need to keep a low profile." I took a deep breath, aware that a reply will start another argument. I hated fighting with Nana. She seemed to sense my frustration, because she stood up and said, "I already made breakfast. Why don't you follow me now? Let's go eat. You must be very tired, so you can freshen up later." I stood up and followed Nana out of the room. We walked in silence to the dining table, where a warm breakfast was spread out before us. As we ate, the silence between us was oppressive. Just as we were finishing up, a knock at the door broke the silence. "Don't worry, Nana, I'll get it," I said, pushing my chair back. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see two men standing there. I could also sense they were werewolves. They handed me an envelope and turned to leave without saying a word. I was taken aback. "Please, wait!" I called out, but they just kept walking. I was left standing there, wondering what was going on. I walked back to the breakfast table, where Nana was watching me curiously. "What's that?" she asked, eyeing the envelope in my hand. "Two men just gave it to me and left," I replied, trying to open it.
