I couldn't believe my eyes.
The most beautiful man I'd ever seen stood in front of me, bare and almost naked.
He was none other than my husband- if I could even call him that
My grasp on the tray of his food tightened in trembling
How could one person be so sexy?
His muscular arms and six abs seemed like they were carved by the finest artist, and I swallowed hard at the sight of them. His Calvin Klein boxers fit so tight, I fought hard not to look below his waist.
His expression didn't seem to give off any shock at how I had walked in on him almost naked
He simply walked from the bathroom with water droplets sliding down his chiseled body and grabbed a towel from the king sized bed, drying himself with it.
Oh f**k. What a lucky towel.
His eyes finally met mine, a hint of amusement dancing in them. “Enjoying the view?” He asked
I jerked at his husky voice and the tray rattled with my sudden movement
“I uh, brought your food” I spoke nervously as the words finally came out of me
He chuckled in a sensual way “Appreciate it”
Sexy bastard. He was a hottie and he knew it!
As he sauntered over to where I stood, he took the tray from me and our fingers touched, and I heard the fireworks go off in my head.
He settled into the study chair, still half naked, and dug into his meal that only had vegetables on them. He was on a strict diet and wasn't allowed to eat anything else.
My gaze roamed his room. I noticed how everything was placed with precision, books were aligned on the shelf, pens arranged by color, and not a single dust particle could be seen.
He was probably one of those control freaks who planned every single thing.
“Are you going to just stand there?” He asked without sparing me a glance
I walked over to him quietly and handed him his medications.
Again, my heart almost burst out of my chest from the feel of our fingers touched briefly
“Take those first,” I stood hovering over him, pointing to the blue pills
“I'm so grateful for your expertise,” Christopher said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.”I don't know what I'd do without you telling me how to swallow the pills”
I rolled my eyes “Someone has to make sure you don't choke on your own ego” I blurted out unconsciously
Christopher raised an eyebrow “Ouch Miss, that hurt, I didn't know you cared”
I felt my cheeks heat up. “I don't, I just don't want to clean up after you”
“That's what a wife does for her husband” He said with a smirk
“I'm your maid, not your wife. If you think this sham of a marriage would make things work between us, you're in for a big surprise sir!”
If he wanted to go down that route, I was ready for him
“You're everything I say that you are. Maid, wife, slut-”
“I'm not a slut!” I snapped, interrupting his words. How dare he?
“But my mother paid you, you had a price and you were bought” He continued. His expression seemed relaxed and unperturbed while I on the other hand was seething with rage
“You know nothing” I said shaking my head and turning away from him, broken at his words
“Wouldn't be a bad idea to be my slut now, would it?” He spoke softly all of a sudden and I melted at his words.
I hated the way he could control how I felt! Hated the power he had over me.
I turned to find him out of the chair and standing, his towering height above me like a statue.
His hair, still slick with moisture, was draped over his forehead, tempting my hands to brush it back.
His gaze was intense and piercing, pinning me in place. I felt my cheek flush for the hundredth time as his eyes seemed to bore into my soul. My eyes darted away, too shy to keep eye contact
“I should get going” I whispered
“Already? A few minutes ago, you couldn't take your eyes off me and now, you want to leave?” He taunted me further
I felt my knees go weak. What was this man doing to me?
He gently wrapped his fingers around my jaw, guiding my eyes back to his gaze, forcing me to meet his piercing gaze.
Another step brought me into his embrace, closing any distance between us. I felt my n****e turn hard against his rock hard chest. The bulge between his legs grew to a full erection and poked at my belly.
“Christopher, please” I begged, my heart racing at the spontaneity of the moment. This was the man who never wanted anything to do with me
In an instant, Christopher's head lowered his head and I could feel his breath against my face. His sweet cologne filled my nostrils.
I took a step back, breaking away from the passionate moment and a sharp pain jabbed at my chest. It tore me apart to be the one to end this, but I just couldn't handle it.
But reality crashed down on me.
I couldn't start something so dangerous. Our worlds were too far apart. I wasn't even sure if any of this was real yet, it still felt like a dream.
He probably sensed my unease as he straightened up, his shoulders squaring, and cleared his throat.
“There's a whole lot you're in the dark about. And that's about to change,” His voice dropped to a low and husky tone, “But one thing is non-negotiable. I'll follow only your pace”
My mind wandered off to what David had told me earlier. What dark did Christopher mean? What was this family keeping away from me?
“What do you mean by following only my pace” I asked too scared to inquire about the darkness he spoke off
“Meaning I'll kiss you only when you want me to” He said still holding my gaze
No woman on this earth would be able to withstand the sight of such a man standing half naked whilst he told her of his plans to kiss her. Well, no woman but me.
“Could we do dinner tonight?” He asked, a snug expression played out on his face.
I had no words for him. This was not how I imagined this would play out
“Please say something Heather” The sound of my name on his lips was like a spark, making my heart flutter. This would be the first time ever that he calledcout my name, finally acknowledging that I was a person in his world
“I don't think your mother would like that-” I said and watched how his expression was quickly replaced with the look of disappointment
“Right. She bought you so of course she controls you,” His voice was laced with annoyance. “Let me guess, she also put you up to bringing me my meals and drugs”
My silence gave an answer
“Gold digger, just like the rest of them” He spat out in disgust. His eyes blazed and fear enveloped me.
“Get out” He ordered. Too scared of provoking another outburst, I rushed out of the room with my head hung low, disheartened.
Breathless, I stopped to process the sudden turn of events.
What just happened?
Suddenly, in the hallway where I stood perplexed, a family voice wafted towards me.
Madam Estelle's voice drifted from the study, catching my attention.
“ I would rather die than let that dirty maid carry my grandchildren,” He spoke, obviously irritated. “Christopher is married now, why can't his grandfather's will be read already?” She asked
A second voice replied, "There's a catch ma'am. The will states the company can only be fully his when he's married and produces an heir."
Madam Estelle's anger was evident in her tone "Why didn't you say this before?"
"Mr. Greg suspects foul play in Christopher's marriage, ma'am. Hence the update of the will."
Her voice dripped with malice. "We must act fast and get rid of that dirty maid”
“Madam, wouldn't that be a bit obvious? Three brides in one year is a bit outrageous”
My eyes widened in shock. What did this mean?
I couldn't risk taking chances. I ran downstairs for the fear of being caught, still reeling with the uncovered truth from minutes ago.
The doorbell rang, and I answered, finding a stunning woman on the threshold. She was dressed in a yellow sun dress. The cool evening breeze blew against her long and wavy perfect hair. She looked like she was straight out of a Pinterest fashion advertisement
"I'm Penelope, Christopher's fiancée," she introduced herself, her smile radiant and knowing
