Bride to Be

1216 Words
Christopher caught her deep blue eyes first. The loud clicking of heels against the floor that grew louder by the minute echoed down the pristine walls of the corridor, compelling him to come out of his room. He did not need the ruckus. Especially not on the day he was getting married to a complete stranger His gaze drifted across the hallway, halted by a flash of strawberry blonde hair. As she spun around, silken strands of her hair swirled around her, grazing her shoulders. The delicate french lace of her gown would never look as perfect as it did now on her. She grasped his arms, her fingers digging deep into his flesh as she pulled him close. Her breath came in short gasps, warm against his skin “I need to find my way out of here, please!” She says, looking over her shoulders Who was she and why was she here? “Don't just stand there looking at me! Can you men prove yourself worthy for once?”She exclaimed, wide-eyed like an owl in daylight. It was as if her words snapped Christopher out of whatever hypnosis he had been under. He gently pried her fingers off his arm, and his sudden release left her hands hovering and empty. His cold gaze froze her in place as her chest heaved, the gentle swell of her breasts rising and falling with each frantic breath. “Out,” he said, his voice was low and even. “Use the stairs and find your way out” He said dismissively and turned away, taking long strides back into his bedroom. She immediately grasped his shirt, the white crisp fabric wrinkling in her fist. “Wait, please!” Her words tumbled out, desperate as ever He halted in his steps and his eyes drifted down, tracing her hands, her pale skin and trembling fingers. This b***h was definitely crazy, he thought Slowly, he took her hand and with a sudden movement he grasped her wrist, pulling her into his chest. A stunned gasp escaped from her lips “A minx such as yourself would have a better chance at fooling other guys. But I'm not stupid. Taking advantage of a day like this to come here and steal from-” “Steal? Oh shut up you wanna be Henry Cavill!” She interrupted his words abruptly, freeing herself from his embrace, “Look I don't have time right now but I assure you I want to be out of here badly. So loosen up that attitude of yours and help me escape this wedding before they make me marry a cripple!” He was shocked to his bones! No one had ever thought of speaking to him in such a manner A dull ache spread through his temples at her words, with confusion wrapping itself around him like a cloak “Marry a cripple?” Christopher managed to blurt out, refusing to believe she might have referred to him as that “Or a mute. Or worse! A mad man. I wouldn't like to find out so please, help me escape this doom of a mansion” Her lips tremble in fear. It all made sense now. She was the woman he was to marry. His replacement bride. “You look like you know you way around here, so please-” “Shut up” He ordered her, cutting off her words She looked like she was taken aback by his rudeness with the way her eyes flickered in confusion “This is how you speak to a lady in distress?”, she reached for his hand and searched his knuckles frantically “Of course you're not married. You wouldn't be able to bag any girl with a frown like that, and an attitude of a teenage boy” He almost spared her a chuckle. Christopher Sullivan was that guy. He did not need to lift a finger to get all the girls swooning all over him. He managed to convince himself that he did not need to explain this to her “This husband you speak of, how do you know he is disabled or mad?” “Well I'm not dumb. The maids refusal to disclose any information about what he looks like says it all” She spat out frustrated During her dress up, she pestered everyone desperately to get any detail on what her would-be husband was like. But the makeup artist and maids kept their mouths sealed. Christopher's eyes locked into hers, and a sudden spark of an idea came to mind “I'll help you escape”, he whispered in a low voice and a sense of urgency in his tone Her gaze narrowed with anticipation etched on her face “But on one condition” He continued Her face fell at his words “I'm still a virgin Mr, I can't give you what you want” She said touching her temple with a finger as she walked away Christopher blinked a million times in confusion. Clearly she had no idea who he was. But he wanted her out of her as fast as possible, so he let her words slide “On the condition that you don't return here. No matter what” He watched as she turned to him almost immediately with a smile plastered across her face “Deal!” She said and nodded fervently Without a word, Christopher strode into his room and came back with a shawl, carefully draping it over her head They descended the stairs as quietly as possible, their footsteps muffled by the gathering of the crowd outside and the maids running around indoors. The strawberry-blonde followed closely behind him like a lost child. Christopher's hand instinctively sought the small door beneath the staircase, revealing a lush garden of different flowers and plants, neatly pruned and beautifully colored. He suddenly noticed her fingers intertwined with his, sending an unexpected jolt through his body. “Walk straight ahead,” He instructed with a brisk voice “You'll find a small gate leading to the back” He gave a curt nod and turned to leave but her grip on his arm tightened “Stop being such a sour puss. Am I supposed to slip past the bodyguards alone?” She was relentless! “What more could you want? f*****g hell!” Christopher snapped at her Her countenance seemed unperturbed at his growing temper “You need to calm the f**k down and stop behaving like you just got your period” She moved a step closer to say and her warm breath landed on his face, her sweet smell of lavender mixed with vanilla left him breathless Christopher opened his mouth to say something but a familiar voice sent a feeling of unease down his spine “Oh there they are,” His mother, Mrs Estelle walked into the room with a man, probably a business associate. “I see no introduction is needed as Christopher has already met his bride to be” His mother said, with a small smile on her face. She was elegantly dressed for the occasion, her aura exuding dominance and pride. “Bride to be?” The strawberry blonde blurted out in confusion.
