Xesha's POV
"Miss? Why are you here? Isn't this your wedding day?" asked the butler who had worked for the Dawn family for decades. All the servants, even the butler, respected me as if I were already the lady of the house.
However, with Jasper's betrayal, their respect would no longer matter.
"I want to pack my things," I replied briefly, walking towards the master bedroom, my and Jasper's room. She followed me upstairs, then stopped at the doorway, while I continued inside.
I grabbed the suitcase from on top of the wardrobe and started putting clothes and other important items inside.
"Does Alpha Jasper know?" she asked again. I chose to remain silent.
It didn't matter whether Jasper knew about my departure. The less he knew, the better. I didn't want to be tempted by his selfish persuasion for the umpteenth time, so that I would give in to his manipulation and end up crawling back to him.
I deliberately wore a mask to cover up my tear-stained makeup and the red marks left by Brandon's slaps. No one could know about the tragedy that had happened in my life, or they would laugh at me.
I had endured enough shame since Helena's return.
She should never have returned from her studies abroad. Or... she should have died during the repeated suicide attempts, as Jasper said. But why did she survive, as if the Moon Goddess had deliberately kept her alive to disrupt my life and Jasper's?
The butler took the phone from her uniform pocket, and I knew it. I approached her and immediately snatched the device from her hand.
"Don't call him, please," I said.
"What if he asks?"
"Tell him you don't know anything."
She nodded, and I continued what I had been doing. Unexpectedly, the phone rang. Jasper's name was displayed on the screen, and it was impossible not to answer the call.
He would contact everyone, and that would be a whole new drama if it were to happen.
"Take this, but don't say anything about me," I instructed the butler, who nodded and accepted Jasper's call. She seemed to have activated the speakerphone so I could hear what Jasper was saying.
"Where is my fiancée?" Jasper asked from across the room, but it seemed that the question was not directed at the butler because shortly after, an answer was heard.
"I-I tried to stop her, Alpha. She... I don't know what kind of demon possessed her so she could break free. She's just an omega, but—"
"i***t!" Jasper's curse made the butler flinch. "Janice, is she there?"
"N-no, Alpha," the butler replied after seeing me shake my head. "She didn't come. Maybe she went somewhere or locked herself in her hotel room."
"Good," I said silently. However, I wasn't sure Jasper would believe her. He would surely return home soon. So I quickly gathered everything I needed and left the house.
"Miss Xesha, Alpha Jasper doesn't want you to leave. Stay a little longer until he returns and you can talk about everything."
It was very tempting. If I were still the foolish Xesha who was madly in love with Jasper, I might have believed Janice's words and decided to stay. It felt so hard to not see Jasper for even a single day.
I shook my head. Continuing the steps that had been blocked all along. Leaving the place that had given me so many memories over the years. Bitter and sweet.
There... Jasper and I spent every beautiful night together.
Even though he wasn't a romantic man who would always give gifts or sweet talk—he even seemed indifferent and didn't care about anything I did—I knew he wasn't the type of man who liked to cheat.
I still couldn't believe he did this for his dear friend.
Brandon was right. I was just a joke to Jasper because, in reality, he was so happy and looked at Helena with love as that damn woman walked down the aisle.
This wedding was a gift for her. Jasper had been planning it for a long time, and I, foolishly, believed that he loved me so much.
It was true that some people said I was naive. However, I hated Helena for a reason.
There was an incident that I still remembered very clearly and that was the beginning of my hatred for her.
One time Helena came to the mansion looking for Jasper. I was there and greeted her politely because I thought she was Jasper's business colleague, as she had claimed before.
She started to act arrogant when she found out that I was Jasper's fiancée.
"I'm sure Jasper knows who he should defend between you and me," she said, which stunned me and froze me for a split second.
Sure enough, she grabbed our engagement ring, then carelessly threw the small object, until it was scattered somewhere.
"What the hell are you doing, Miss Millian?" I stared at her sharply and, I don't know where the idea came from in her head, but she made it look like I had pushed her, and Jasper happened to be behind me.
"Helena!"
That one word was enough to make me realize who was between us at that moment. Jasper. He immediately helped Helena, who was moaning in pain, before turning to look at the person he thought was responsible for the crime against his dear f*****g friend—me.
"Ouch! My arm hurts so much, Jase... you know it was broken during the tragedy before," she whimpered, and Jasper, full of concern and worry, rubbed the area she pointed to.
"Calm down, Helena. I'll call the doctor right away. You rest first, okay? I have to talk to Xesha," Jasper said, comforting her.
He then turned to me. His gaze sharp and cold, as if he were no longer looking at his fiancée whom he'd marry for love, but a criminal who had suddenly come to cause trouble.
He pulled my arm roughly, dragging me to the corner of the room, then slapped me.
"Jase... why did you do this to me? Why did you believe her so easily? She threw our engagement ring." I tried to defend myself. And do you know what his answer was?
"It's just a ring, Xesha. A f*****g ring! Don't overreact! Don't be violent to her just because of something trivial."
"What? Just a ring?"
"Enough. I don't want to hear anything anymore. If you're rude to her again, I won't hesitate to lock you in the basement!" he snapped authoritatively, and that left me speechless.
I turned to Helena, who was grinning at me, then glanced at Jasper, who was paying her more attention. It felt like someone was tearing my heart out.
"There's one thing you need to know." Jasper turned to me and spoke after being sweet to Helena and rude to me. "For the next few days, she will be staying in this house. Since we will be discussing the company matters a lot, I hope you don't mind sleeping in the guest room for a while."
"What? You mean she's going to sleep with you?" I snorted in disbelief.
He pulled me away from Helena again and began to say what he wanted to say.
"Xesha, please... I want you to be fair. She is part of our company and she is here to train the new employees and I have chosen her to be my personal assistant—my beta. We need her. So... be nice."
"We", huh?
Funny that he chose as his beta someone who was mentally fragile and always used suicide as a weapon to get his attention. Seriously? This alone was strange, but I was really stupid at the time.
Jasper left me without waiting for my opinion. He went upstairs with Helena, where his office and our rooms were.
Meanwhile, I... was still standing where I was, staring after Jasper's departure in confusion then looking for my damn engagement ring.
Be nice? Does that mean I have to let my future husband sleep in the same room with that woman and endure the torment of my own thoughts about what they might be doing all night—every day, even every moment?
I used to think Jasper's behavior was because he wanted to maintain his company's stability, since he hadn't found a great assistant yet. However, after he decided to choose Helena as his beta, I began to doubt my existence in his life and in his heart.
I was foolish... but I knew now—after everything became even more painful.

The flames before me looked like a dance of rage that, if it grew, would consume not only everything nearby, but everything in this world. Just like my my anger. I threw something into it—a wedding dress that should have been mine alone, but without my knowledge, had been duplicated for the sake of betrayal.
"Xesha!" A voice broke my reverie and I immediately turned around, leaving the wedding dress that hadn't completely burned. Jasper grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks.
He came here. It must be because he thought that I was just sulking and would always come back to him like before.
He was wrong to think that.
He turned toward the flames and realized that I had destroyed my wedding dress. He stared blankly at the fire for the split second and foolishly tried to put it out. But, of course, he failed.
He stared intently at me for a moment without saying a word. Meanwhile, I tried to avoid his gaze. There was nothing left to salvage from this relationship.
I couldn't possibly stay with a man who had asked me to give up my place to another woman. He had even impregnated her. He thought marriage was a joke? Not to me.
"Xesha, where are you going?" he asked, but as if he didn't need an answer, he grabbed my suitcase from my hands. "Come in. Let's talk inside."
He was still the same authoritarian Jasper who always wanted to win over me.
"I'm not going back there."
"What do you mean?" he asked in a weakened tone that made me reluctant to say this. However, the hard slap I received on my wedding day made me certain of my decision this time.
"Come on... it's just a marriage. Look at the proof. Your name is still written on our marriage certificate. I'll show you if you don't believe me."
"No, Jasper. Enough. I don't want that anymore. You can give it to her."
"Xesha, don't make a scene. Are you deliberately acting like this to get my attention? Come on... don't be childish. Grow up, like Helena."
I laughed bitterly at his words. Every word he said, especially when he mentioned that woman's name, felt like thousands of needles piercing my heart.
I stared at the pair of hazel eyes that I used to admire. Now, just looking at them for a moment brought me incredible pain. I didn't want to see those beautiful eyes looking at Helena with admiration, while he had never done the same for me all this time.
"Grow up like Helena, huh?" I laughed again. "I'm not immature, nor am I seeking your attention, Jasper. I'm just asking for what should be mine. Today, you proved that you can't do that, and I don't want to hope anymore, so... let's break up."
