Chapter 7 They Might Wonder Who I Really Was

1331 Words
Xesha's POV I planned to sell all the shares in my name that were given to me by Jasper and several others that were still part of his company's assets, and only my best friend was an expert in that field. However, I hadn't said anything when she invited me to come to her office. "Have you seen this?" asked my best friend, Shana Lane, when I arrived. She turned the computer screen she had been looking at. She had watched almost half of the video, then she replayed it so I could see it from the beginning. "Watch it until the end first," said Shana, fast-forwarding the video to ten minutes later. "You can choose any dress you like," said Jasper, followed by the arrival of several dresses with the latest designs from his favorite boutique—our favorite boutique, back then. "Are you sure I can choose? How about all of them?" Helena asked. "Sure." Helena rushed towards Jasper, hugging and kissing him affectionately. "Thank you. You're the best, Jase." Pfft! The best, she said? I was jealous, but that was only a small part of it now. The rest was no longer about him but who he would sleep with every night. Men like Jasper weren't easily attracted to women, but if there was a woman who managed to make him so royal, then she was the one. The video moved to the auction room. A man approached them. He asked Jasper many questions, but I only highlighted a few. "You look very happy, Mr. Jasper Dawn," said the middle-aged man. "Ah, I almost forgot. Of course you're happy because you're about to marry a woman as beautiful as Miss Helena Millian. She is perfect." "Uhm, a wedding celebration, to be more precise. We already made vows before, it was a private event. And later there will be a wedding ceremony," Helena replied, confirming the middle-aged man's words. "And... one more thing. We're going to have a baby soon," she added, sounding like a little squeal of joy. "Of course. It's natural that many people don't like your happiness. Even someone like Doctor Xesha Foxx wants you, Mr. Dawn. She's so crazy about you that she made you marry her without you realizing it. It really wasn't the right marriage for her." The man laughed. Shana turned to me. "Look at him, Xesha." I didn't respond, but instead focused on the video because I wanted to know what they were going to say again. "If I may, teach me how to get a mistress as great as Doctor Foxx," the man added. "Aren't you upset? Everyone is laughing at you now. Doctor Foxx is crazy about another woman's future husband. Or this..." Shana showed the online news about people's opinions. "Dr. Foxx is a cheap woman who steals other women's men. See?" I just shrugged and sighed heavily.. "So what do you want me to do? Hold a press conference and tell them everything about me that Jasper hasn't told them? Who am I?" "Who? You are the genius Dr. Xesha Foxx. Everyone knows you. Since your residency, you've been the best doctor in Manhattan. This is tantamount to character assassination, Xesha. Aren't you afraid?" I sighed softly and stared at the screen, which was still showing Jasper smiling proudly at the compliments directed at him and Helena. However, it no longer bothered me. I had decided to forget about it. So whatever he did, it was up to him. "Do you want me to go to them and get angry?" I asked. "Not really, but... why don't you do something to refute it? Or just cut ties with him right now." Shana grabbed both my hands and held them tightly while looking into my eyes. "Xesha, you're beautiful, smart, and have a great career." "But I'm just an omega." "Well, even if that's true, who cares? Your intelligence and abilities even surpass betas like Helena. You don't need Jasper. He's the one who needs you." "You're right. But there will be times when we have to swallow something bad and let it pass without many people knowing, rather than telling the world. If I do something in response to this, it will only provoke a public reaction that is not always beneficial to me." "But what about your career after this?" "Uhm... Let's think about that later," I replied. "By the way, are you watching them? Don't you want to bid on some good auction items? Or do you... just want to watch?" "Can you call me watching when even the whole building can hear that? They're just stupid for not being able to control their behavior, and I don't like betting with stupid people." Shana then got up and pulled my hand. "Now come with me. We're going to throw that s**t where it belongs." We stepped into a room marked VIP where the event was taking place. It was a special dinner for successful businesspeople, as well as an auction. Of course, those who attended were people with sky-high wealth who didn't mind spending a lot of money to get even the most trivial items. To me, they were just confused about how to spend their wealth, which would still be abundant even if it were consumed by seven or even nine generations. I thought Shana had invited me just to watch her hunt for unimportant items at the auction. However, the opposite happened. She entered the room where Jasper, Helena, and the middle-aged man were, joining them, which made Jasper seem startled by our presence. Her gaze was fixed straight on me, deep but dark. Shana then pressed a button that played a recording of their conversation in the room, causing not only Jasper, but also Helena and the stout middle-aged man to gasp. "Who did you just call a woman who steals other women's men?" Shana asked, staring straight at the stout man who looked flustered. "Xesha? What are you doing here?" asked Jasper. This time his gaze seemed sad. He took a step towards me, but was quickly blocked by several of Shana's bodyguards. "Xesha... I can explain everything." "You don't have to bother doing that," I said. "Are you sure?" "Of course she's sure. Why would I bring bodyguards to protect her if she still wants to deal with a man like you?" Shana asked rhetorically. She approached Jasper, who was blocked by her bodyguards and tried to break through the blockade just to get closer to me. However, I was sure he would never succeed. "No, Miss Lane, I think we can discuss this calmly. Don't attract the attention of so many people," said the middle-aged man, who had been panicking since he realized that their conversation had been recorded and could be leaked to the media. "I didn't really mean it when I called Dr. Foxx a man-stealer." "That doesn't matter to her anymore. One thing I want to make clear to you: our Doctor Foxx is not stealing anyone's man. She is the one who is trapped with all the lies. The marriage is not legally or customarily valid because it was conducted under false pretenses, so stop comparing her to trash, let alone considering her a mistress." Shana's voice was loud enough to make the whole room freeze in shock, but they couldn't do anything because they saw how many of Shana's bodyguards were moving to protect us. Jasper looked at me with astonishment he couldn't hide. Of course, he should. The bodyguards working for Shana were from a well-known security company, so one could imagine how much she had to spend just to have them escort her everywhere. Everyone knew I was just an omega, but after tonight, they might wonder who I really was and why I had such strong connections with people at such a high level like Shana—people who, unbeknownst to them, had a stake in big business in the city.
