Nico Gianna had fallen asleep in my arms as we headed back home. My head was hurting, and I had no idea how to feel at this point. She could have gotten killed, and that thought brought out emotions in me I didn’t know how to handle. I held her close to my chest, inhaling her scent to drive some warmth from it. She stirred slightly as I stepped inside the house, her head shifting against my chest. “We’re home,” I said softly. She murmured something incoherent but didn’t lift her head.
