A Shattered Past

The sun was setting as the pack regrouped outside the remnants of the cave. Fenix, Adelia, Fiona, Floyd and Luke had barely escaped the collapsing cavern with their warriors, but their minds were racing with the same question: What was the sorcerer’s endgame? They had barely taken a breath before Luke had begun sifting through the wreckage, his sharp eyes scanning the walls, looking for anything that might reveal more about the dark force they were up against. The air still hummed with the remnants of the sorcerer’s magic, and Luke knew that there was more to her actions than just a thirst for power. Perhaps... revenge? Fenix paced in the distance, lost in his thoughts, while Fiona stood nearby, her eyes narrowed in frustration. Adelia couldn’t help but feel the weight of the moment—Silas was gone, and the sorcerer had vanished, but the battle was far from over. She was determined to unravel the mystery that tied her past to the sorcerer’s motives. “Luke,” Adelia called softly, her voice carrying over to him. He looked up from the rocks he was inspecting and approached her, his expression unreadable. “What is it?” he asked, his brow furrowed. “I know something’s bothering you,” she said. “You’ve been distant since we left the cave. You found something, didn’t you?” Luke hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I did,” he said quietly. “I don’t know if it’s enough, but I think it’s a clue.” “Tell me,” Adelia urged, her pulse quickening with anticipation. Luke gestured for her to follow him, and she did, her steps quickening as he led her deeper into the woods. The other members of the pack were still scattered, resting, but Luke seemed drawn to a specific spot—an outcropping of rock covered in moss and vines. “There’s a symbol,” Luke said, crouching down and running his fingers along the edge of the stone. “I found it earlier when I was clearing the debris. It’s an old seal—one tied to the Blood Moon Pack.” Adelia crouched down beside him, her heart pounding in her chest as she examined the seal. It was faint, worn by time, but unmistakable. “This is from the founding days,” she whispered, her mind racing. “I’ve seen this before in some of the old records.” Luke nodded. “I think it’s a link to the sorcerer’s past. You see, this symbol—this seal—was used by the Blood Moon Pack’s original leaders. But it was never supposed to be known outside of the pack. Someone tried to erase it from history.” Adelia frowned, the pieces of the puzzle slowly beginning to fit together. “So, the sorcerer has ties to the Blood Moon Pack’s history. But why would she go to all this trouble? Why target Silas?” Luke looked up at her, his eyes full of understanding. “Because she has a vendetta against this pack. Her parents were killed in a dispute in the Blood Moon Pack decades ago. This symbol—it’s the last trace of them. And she’s been using Silas to destroy everything the pack stands for, to get revenge for the pain and loss she’s endured.” Adelia’s breath caught in her throat. “Her parents... killed in a dispute?” The realization hit her like a wave. What if that was why she hated me? What if the same thing had happened to me? Luke stood up slowly, his gaze fixed on her. “Yes. The dispute was over land and control, and it tore the pack apart. Her parents were casualties of the political games that had been played. She watched it all unravel. And now, she’s trying to use Silas as a puppet to create chaos and destroy everything the Blood Moon Pack holds dear. It’s her way of getting revenge on the pack that destroyed her family.” Adelia’s heart ached as the pieces of the sorcerer’s past fell into place. It was like looking into a mirror. She too had lost her family—her pack destroyed by a war over power, control, and betrayal. The anger, the loss, the desire for revenge—it all made sense now. But she couldn’t help but wonder, Could she change? Could she redeem herself like I did? Turning to Luke, Adelia spoke softly. “We need to find her. We need to stop her before she destroys everything. But I also need to talk to her. I think I understand her now.” Luke’s gaze softened as he looked at her, his expression conflicted. “Are you sure? She’s dangerous. She won’t hesitate to use you to get what she wants.” Adelia nodded, her resolve hardening. “I know. But I also know what it’s like to want revenge. To want to destroy everything in your path to make the pain stop. I was like that once. If anyone can reach her, it’s me.” That evening, the packs gathered in the heart of the Blood Moon territory. Fenix was at the head, his gaze fierce as he addressed the group, but his eyes often flickered to Adelia. He could see the weight of the situation in her eyes, and it made his heart ache. “I know the sorcerer is still out there,” Fenix said, his voice steady, though tinged with the anger of his recent loss. “We will track her down, and we will make her pay for what she’s done to our pack, to Silas. But there is one among us who may be able to stop her before it goes too far.” Everyone turned to Adelia, and she stood slowly, her hands shaking at her sides. “I believe I can convince her to stop,” she said, her voice firm but filled with a quiet sorrow. “I understand her pain. I understand what drives her. I lost everything, too. But revenge… it doesn’t heal the wounds. It only makes them worse.” Fenix took a step toward her, his expression unreadable. “Adelia, are you sure about this? You’re putting yourself at risk.” “I have to,” she said, her eyes locking with his. “If I don’t, I’ll never be able to live with myself. I’ll never be able to forgive myself for letting her destroy what’s left of this pack.” Luke stepped forward, his brow furrowed in concern. “Adelia’s right. She has a unique understanding of the sorcerer’s pain. If anyone can reach her, it’s her.” Fenix nodded slowly, his jaw tightening as he processed the weight of her words. “Alright,” he said, voice soft. “But we’ll all be with you. No one goes into this alone.” The group fell silent for a moment, the only sound the rustle of the wind through the trees. Adelia looked around at the faces of her pack—faces that had once been full of distrust toward her, but now were full of support. This was her family now, and she wasn’t about to let it slip away. “We leave at dawn,” she said, her voice stronger than it had been in days. “We’re going to end this, one way or another.” The next day, they set out, their resolve as strong as the mountains that surrounded them. As they journeyed deeper into enemy territory, Adelia felt her heart racing. Every step brought her closer to the sorcerer, and she knew that when they met again, it wouldn’t be with bloodshed. It would be with the hope that, just maybe, the sorcerer would listen to her. When they reached the clearing where the sorcerer had last been seen, Adelia called out softly, her voice filled with empathy. “I know what you’re feeling,” she said, her eyes scanning the shadows. “I lost everything too. But this… it won’t bring them back.” For a moment, all was silent. Then, a figure stepped out from the shadows. Her face was shrouded in darkness, but her eyes glowed, filled with the same pain Adelia had felt long ago. “You think you can change me?” the sorcerer’s voice rang out, filled with cold amusement. “You can’t. I will destroy everything you love, just like they destroyed me.” Adelia took a deep breath, stepping forward. “Then let me help you. You don’t have to be like them. I’m offering you a chance to change, to be something more than just a weapon of revenge.” The sorcerer hesitated, her gaze flickering with doubt, and for the first time, Adelia saw a flicker of vulnerability in her eyes. “Please,” Adelia said softly. “Let me help you.” There was a long silence before the sorcerer’s voice broke the stillness. “Maybe… maybe you’re right,” she whispered. “But I don’t know if I can trust you.” Adelia extended her hand. “Trust me. I’ve been where you are. Let me show you another way.” The sorcerer looked at her hand, uncertainty in her gaze. And for a fleeting moment, Adelia thought she saw hope in her eyes. Then, slowly, she reached out and took it.
