"Riaha, you're finally awake!"
Riaha's eyes opened to see Alpha Siro entering the ward with some nurses. The handsome, young-looking doctor, Siro, is the father of her mate.
"What happened, sir?" The words came out of her mouth like a whisper. How he managed to hear her was apparently because of his werewolf ability.
"Your sister and your mate found you in the woods" he replied, standing in front of her scrolling through an iPhone tablet. He made some checks on her body after which he asked the nurses to leave. They left and it was just the of them inside the ward.
"Riaha dear, you were almost killed by an Akaenia!" Alpha Siro sighed.
"An Akaenia?" She asked in bewilderment, recalling the ferocious glittering giant black fur wolf.
"Yes, an Akaenia. I would love to know what happened in the woods, but child, you need a lot of rest to recuperate. You've lost weight drastically, and so much blood too."
"I thought they had been extinct."
"Child, like I said, you'll need to rest. We'll talk about this once you've fully recovered, okay?"
She sputtered, "Okay, Sir Siro"
"You sustained some injuries" Alpha Siro noted.
"Uh', a deer ran over me, then I saw the wolf." She replied touching her forehead.
"Clearly, she didn't harm you. I've observed the bruises."
"Ouch," She hissed as she tried to relax her back on a pillow. Alpha Siro helped her.
"Thank you, sir." Alpha Siro checked her temperature then left, closing the door behind him. Siah entered.
"Darling sister, you're awake. I've been sitting outside waiting for you to wake up. I'm so sorry for last night, Riaha."
"You abandoned me in the woods for death? How could you? I thought you were my sister. I thought you said you loved me unconditionally. How could you?"
"Riaha, I can -"
"No, you can't! You can't explain what happened when you weren't there when an Akaenia, a f*****g Akaenia tried to gut me with its claws!" She cut in on her. Her voice was loud, and it was the first time in a long time she raised her voice at anyone.
"But I saved you -"
"Saved who? Oh, yeah, I bet you did when you scurried away like a scared wolf pup about to get shoved into boiling tea water" She cut in on her again.
"The only reason why you're alive is because of me" Siah fired back.
"Ugh! Go on, say more. Raise your voice, cause you are a werewolf and I am just a useless sister in your life. Go on raise your voice at me. I have heard you say these things behind my back in school" Riaha chuckled. A deep breath settled down her chest.
"You'll have to calm down, okay. I didn't leave you for death. Last night, I knew I couldn't take whatever that thing in the woods was all by myself. It smelled strange, powerful and aggressive. My instinct led me out to call for help" Siah said, her hands clasped with Riaha's.
"All by yourself, huh? Siah, listen to yourself. We were together, Siah. We were. Whatever that something was, we could have tamed it" She shouted, pushing her hands away.
"Tame an Akaenia, Riaha?" the words came out of Siah's mouth sadly.
"Why can't we? Even Akaenia can be killed" She replied, her voice still harsh.
"You went out of the pack. And you know so well the consequences of being a lone wolf."
"You shouldn't have come back. Yeah, seriously, you shouldn't -"
The door knob turned and opened. At the door was Riaha's beta mate, Rico. A few days ago, they were together and she felt something about him had changed. There he was at the door, looking more handsome than ever with his brown eyes. His mustache well shaved, with a nicely trimmed beard.
"I can hear you two from outside. What's the matter?" Rico asked from the doorpost without coming inside.
"Siah -"
"It's nothing to-"
"Let her speak. What's the matter, Riaha?" After Siah interrupted Riaha, he interrupted Siah as well.
"I ... I, Siah, she..." Riaha stammered as she gazed lustfully at her mate's eyes. It seemed like every syllable from his mouth beckoned for a soft kiss, and she imagined herself with him in distant places, hills and mountains, just the two of them away from the madness of the world.
"You should be ashamed of yourself, Riaha. You dare blame your sister for your own trouble? Do you know she went hundreds of miles in fewer minutes to get the full pack on your behalf?" He said coldly. He must have read Riaha's mind and knew exactly what the two had been yelling about.
"I didn't -"
"Just shut up. I'm Beta, you can't lie to me. The truth is that I have had enough of your insolence and weakness in my life. It's all your fault. You should be grateful to Siah; if not for her you would have been dead and forgotten by now" he said loudly, entered the ward, and slammed the door very hard.
"Rico!" Siah tried to call him to order, but her voice couldn't suppress his masculinity, so she stood there gazing at nothing.
"Yes, you heard me right, Siah. Your sister is nothing but a weakling. A mortal, and a very weak and useless one."
"You're hurting me, Rico" Riaha sobbed. The tears that had gathered around her eyelids began trickling as his words pierced through the walls of her emotion.
"Get hurt if you want to. I'm tired. You can't be my mate anymore. I curse our mate bond. I curse those who believed we were meant to be together... I, Rico Stratford, reject you Riaha Miley to be my mate from this day henceforth and I curse the very day I met -"
