"Anna!" He called again and walked up to me.
"It's been a long time, I didn't expect to see you here!" He added. Why did I have to see him now, why here? I faked a smile and nodded.
""I didn't expect to see you here either, Chris! Anyway, nice to meet you again!"" I answered him.
"So what are you doing here?" He asked.
"Chris! Didn't you notice that we were standing in front of you?"" Robert's father half yelled at him.
""I'm sorry uncle, I got distracted because I saw an old friend. She was the girlfriend of my best friend then."" He explained and I chuckled.
"So what are you doing here, Anna?"
""She is my girlfriend and I brought her to see my parents. Do you have a problem with that?"" Robert rudely asked. For the very first time, I was glad that he was arrogant because of the way he answered him.
"And as for your best friend, you can tell him that, I'm glad he left Anna." Robert added, and Chris made a loud laugh.
"Is it funny?"
""Somehow! You don't know who Melvin is. He didn't break up with Anna. Anna broke up with him, and he has been looking for her to get her back, so it's something you have to deal with."" He answered.
"I'm sorry uncle and aunt, I'm sorry you had to witness this behavior of us young people."
"Mom! Dad! See you next time,"" Robert said, and we walked outside. He entered his car and I followed him, and instead of the restaurant I had lied about, he drove to his company. It was a silent drive to the company.
We got out of his car and I walked side by side with him to wherever he was going. I could hear the whispers and murmurs of his company's workers. There is nothing they would be talking about except that the boss brought in a young beautiful lady.
We entered a big room which I could tell was his office. He sat down in the manager's seat and motioned me to sit down. After looking at me for some time, he took out a file and handed it over to me.
"In there is the contract marriage file, you really did play your role well in front of my parents, but I want more than that, put in more effort, so we won't be caught." He said. I took a glance at him and another at the file I was holding.
""You will see there what party A and party B are meant to do and what they were not meant to do. If there is something wrong with the contract you can tell me, let's look into it together."" He added.
"I'm not sure if there is something to change, like we can't meddle in each other's business and what I have to do is just play like your wife, and that is what I would do." I replied, took out a pen to sign the contract, but his voice stopped me.
"How did you know Chris?" He asked.
"Like he said, he is a friend of my ex-boyfriend who I broke up with."
""Does he know about your job? Because if he knew, he would implicate both of us someday."" His voice sounded plain.
""He doesn't know. I don't entirely work on a dating platform, I have a good job that gives me money, so you don't have to worry about that. Can I sign the contract now?"" I asked and he nodded.
I signed the two contracts on the table, gave him one and kept one for myself.
""Pack up your things and I will send my secretary to come pick you up tomorrow. You will have to start living with me.""
He crossed his legs, and began going through a file. I looked at him, he was way too handsome to stop looking at, his dark short hair, blue eyes and husky chest.
"Is there anything you need to ask me again?" He asked. ‘Did he notice that I was looking at him?’ I cleared my throat and nodded.
""Why don't you want to have a real girlfriend? You are rich and have everything to get what you want, girls that love you would be running to you, so why did you choose to go on a dating site?"" I asked. He dropped the files in his hand and looked at me.
""Shouldn't you be happy that I chose you? You are working for the money and nothing else, so that is something you don't need to ask me."" He answered coldly.
"I know! But at least I need to know about you. What if I was asked a question and I don't know about it?"" I asked.
"What do you want to know?" He asked.
"Why are your parents desperate for you to get married?" I asked.
""Like you heard them say, they need a grandson, and I am the only child in my family. I don't have an elder brother or a sister. That's the reason they want me to get married,"" He answered.
Even though the answer sounds real and true, I'm sure there is more to it.
"So what's your best food and what are you allergic to?" I asked.
""My secretary will hand over to you a file about everything you need to know about me. There is no need for me to explain things to you, it would be a waste of my time, it's better for you to learn it yourself."" He answered with finality in his tone.
If he was a little child I would have given him the beating of his life for talking to me like that.
"Does being arrogant run through the vein of your family?" I asked, and he glared hard at me. I smiled to cover up for what I said.
"Do you want me to answer that question or not?" He asked and I shook my head.
A call came to my phone, and it was from Skyler. I picked up the call immediately.
"Anna! You are dead today. If you know what's good for you, come down to the restaurant immediately!"" She yelled from the other end and cut the call. Immediately, without saying any word, I grabbed my bag and I ran out of his office.
