Nova woke to sunlight streaming through massive windows and the softest sheets she'd ever felt. For a blissful moment, she forgot where she was. Then reality crashed back.
Five Alphas. A prophecy. Her wolf waking up.
She groaned and pulled a pillow over her face.
"Good morning, sleepyhead."
Nova shrieked and shot upright. Kai was sitting cross-legged at the foot of her bed, grinning like a maniac.
"What the hell are you doing in my room?!" She clutched the blanket to her chest, even though she was fully clothed in the pajamas Mrs. Chen had provided.
"Technically, this is Zane's house, so it's his room that he's letting you borrow," Kai said cheerfully. "And I'm here because you're supposed to start training today. The others are being respectful and waiting downstairs. But I figured, why wait?"
"You couldn't knock like a normal person?"
"Where's the fun in that?" Kai's ice-blue eyes sparkled with mischief. "Besides, we're mates. We're supposed to be comfortable with each other."
"We barely know each other!"
"Then let's fix that." He patted the bed. "Tell me three things about Nova Sterling."
Nova stared at him. He was insane. Definitely insane. But there was something oddly endearing about his complete lack of boundaries.
"Fine," she said, pushing her hair out of her face. "One: I don't like being startled awake. Two: I take my coffee black. Three: If you sneak into my room again without permission, I'll figure out how to use my wolf powers to bite you."
Kai's grin widened. "She's got teeth. I like it. My turn. One: I'm an insomniac, so if you need someone to talk to at 3 AM, I'm your guy. Two: I can hack literally anything—governments, banks, your ex's life. Three: I think you're the most interesting thing that's happened to me in years."
The last one was said without his usual playful tone, and it made Nova's chest tighten.
"Kai—"
"I know, I know. Too serious." He bounced off the bed. "Get dressed. Zane's making breakfast and he gets grumpy if people are late. Plus, Asher wants to start your combat training, and trust me, you don't want to keep him waiting."
After he left, Nova took a moment to process. She was really doing this. Living with five Alphas. Training to use powers she didn't understand. Preparing for some mysterious darkness that wanted to kill her.
Her life had gotten very weird, very fast.
---
The dining room was massive, with a table that could seat twenty. But this morning, it was just the six of them. Zane at the head, Asher and Elias on one side, Orion at the far end, and Kai pulling out a chair for Nova.
"Sleep well?" Zane asked, sliding a plate of eggs and bacon in front of her.
"You cook?" Nova asked, surprised.
"Don't sound so shocked. I have many talents." His dark eyes glinted with amusement. "Besides, Mrs. Chen has the day off."
The food was actually delicious, and Nova found herself relaxing as she ate. There was something surprisingly normal about this—six people sharing breakfast. If she ignored the fact that they were all supernaturally powerful and bound by ancient prophecy.
"So," Asher said, setting down his fork. "Your wolf woke up last night. That means you're ready to start training."
"Training for what exactly?" Nova asked.
"Everything," Asher said. "Combat. Control. Transformation. If the darkness is coming, you need to be able to defend yourself."
"I don't know how to fight."
"That's why you have me." Asher's amber eyes were serious. "I've trained warriors for years. I'll teach you."
"And I'll teach you to control your healing abilities," Elias added gently. "Your wolf carries the gift of healing. It's powerful, but without control, you could hurt yourself."
"I can teach you the mental disciplines," Orion said. "Prophecy and foresight require a focused mind."
"And I'll handle your digital footprint," Kai said. "Make sure no one can track you online. Oh, and teach you some basic hacking. Never know when you'll need to break into something."
Nova looked at Zane. "What about you?"
His smile was dark. "I'll teach you how to be a Luna. How to command. How to make people fear and respect you in equal measure."
"I'm not sure I can—"
"You can," Zane said with absolute certainty. "You're stronger than you think, Nova. We just need to help you see it."
---
An hour later, Nova stood in the mansion's private gym, wearing workout clothes that Elias had somehow procured in her exact size. Asher circled her like a predator assessing prey.
"First lesson," he said. "Your wolf gives you enhanced strength, speed, and senses. But you need to learn to access them at will."
"How?"
"Close your eyes. Focus inward. Feel your wolf."
Nova did as instructed. At first, there was nothing. Then, slowly, she felt it—that presence in her mind. Her wolf, watching, waiting.
*Hello again,* Nova thought.
*Ready to run?* her wolf replied, and Nova could swear she felt amusement.
"I can feel her," Nova said.
"Good. Now ask her to share her senses with you."
Nova did. Suddenly, the world exploded into focus. She could hear Zane's heartbeat from three rooms away. Could smell Kai's cologne mixed with electricity and metal. Could sense Orion watching from the doorway, even with her eyes closed.
"Whoa," she breathed.
"That's just the beginning," Asher said. "Now, we fight."
Nova's eyes snapped open. "What?!"
"Don't worry. I'll go easy on you." He dropped into a fighting stance. "Come at me."
"I don't know how—"
"Your wolf does. Trust her."
Nova took a breath and lunged. It was clumsy, awkward, but Asher easily sidestepped. She stumbled, caught herself, tried again. And again. Each time, Asher dodged or blocked, never once hitting back.
"Stop thinking," he instructed. "Let your wolf guide your movements."
On her next attempt, Nova cleared her mind. Let her wolf rise to the surface. Suddenly, her body moved with a grace she didn't know she possessed. Her punch actually connected with Asher's shoulder.
"Better!" He grinned. "Again!"
They trained for an hour, and by the end, Nova was exhausted but exhilarated. She'd actually held her own—barely—against a trained warrior.
"You're a natural," Asher said, handing her a water bottle. His hand brushed hers, and that now-familiar warmth sparked between them. "Your wolf is strong. She's been waiting a long time to stretch her legs."
"Thank you," Nova said. "For being patient with me."
"Always." His amber eyes softened. "I meant what I said yesterday. I'll protect you with my life. That's not just the bond talking. That's a promise from me to you."
Before Nova could respond, Elias appeared in the doorway. "My turn," he said with a gentle smile. "If you're not too tired?"
"I'm okay," Nova assured him, even though her muscles were screaming.
Elias led her to a quiet room filled with plants and soft light. "Healing is about intention and connection," he explained. "Your wolf has the gift, but you need to learn to direct it."
He pulled out a small knife.
"What are you—"
Before she could finish, Elias sliced his palm. Blood welled up immediately.
"Elias!" Nova gasped.
"It's okay. Now, heal me."
"I don't know how!"
"Yes, you do. Take my hand. Focus on wanting the wound to close. Your wolf will do the rest."
Hesitantly, Nova took his hand. The moment they touched, she felt it—his pain, the torn flesh, the sluggish healing that his wolf would normally handle. But more than that, she felt a warmth building in her chest.
*Heal him,* her wolf urged.
Nova imagined the wound closing, the flesh knitting back together. Silver light flowed from her hand into Elias's. When she pulled away, his palm was completely healed—not even a scar.
"I did it," she whispered in awe.
"You did." Elias's smile was radiant. "You're remarkable, Nova. This gift—it's rare. Precious. Never doubt your worth."
The afternoon continued with Orion teaching her meditation techniques ("To prevent your mind from being overwhelmed by visions," he explained cryptically) and Kai showing her how to encrypt her phone ("Because trust me, people are already trying to hack into your life").
By evening, Nova was mentally and physically exhausted. But she also felt... powerful. For the first time in her life, she felt like she could be someone who mattered.
She was heading to her room when she heard voices at the front door. Angry voices.
"I'm telling you, I need to see her!"
Nova's blood ran cold. Tyler.
She rushed to the foyer to find Tyler being blocked by all five of her Alphas. He looked terrible—disheveled, desperate, with dark circles under his eyes.
"Nova!" he called when he saw her. "Thank gods. I need to talk to you!"
"No," Zane said coldly. "You need to leave."
"This is pack business," Tyler snapped. "You can't keep me from my—"
"Your what?" Asher growled. "She's not yours. You rejected her, remember?"
"I made a mistake!" Tyler's voice cracked. "Nova, please. I was wrong. So wrong. I want you back. Let me—"
"No." Nova's voice was steady, strong. "The answer is no, Tyler."
"But we're fated mates!"
"We were never fated," Nova said, stepping between her five Alphas to face her ex. "That bond was false, weak. You said it yourself—I was worthless to you."
"I was an i***t!"
"Yes," Nova agreed. "You were. But that's not my problem anymore. I have five Alphas now. Five mates who see my worth. Who want me. Who chose me." She lifted her chin. "So you can go back to Scarlett, or whoever else you want. Because I'm done with you."
Tyler's face crumpled. "You can't mean that."
"She does." Zane's hand settled possessively on Nova's shoulder. "Now leave. Before I make you."
The Alpha King's power filled the air, suffocating and absolute. Tyler paled, took a step back, then another.
"This isn't over," he said weakly.
"Yes," Nova said. "It is."
She watched Tyler retreat into the night, and felt nothing. No pain, no regret. Just relief.
When she turned back to her Alphas, they were all looking at her with pride.
"That," Kai said, "was hot."
"Agreed," Asher murmured.
Nova felt herself blush. But she was also smiling.
She'd just stood up to her ex. Had claimed her five Alphas publicly. Had taken another step toward becoming the Luna she was meant to be.
The darkness might be coming.
But Nova Sterling wasn't going to face it as a weak, rejected Omega.
She was going to face it as a Star-Moon Luna, with five Alphas by her side.
And heaven help anyone who stood in their way.
