I am blacked out once again but somehow awake. I see my zombie on the other side of the room clean and now human looking. He only has white eyes and hair as I take in his form. I notice not only how tall he is but how round his shoulders are, how his arm slightly bulges with muscles. My eyes drift down to the deep V at his hips and I realize that he is naked, and I– I’m checking him out.
I roll over on the bed only to realize that I am on a bed, not a floor. My mind feels foggy but I blink a few times to clear away some of the fog. Glancing back I see the zombie is slipping on a pair of jeans. He is not elegant in his movements but I wouldn't call them movements of a zombie. I watch as he tries to put on a shirt and ends up tearing it in half. He lets it drop to the ground and grabs another one out of the closet.
He is changing clothes. Not only that he cleaned himself up. I squint trying to get a closer look and the black veins are still there. He is a zombie, I remind myself. I listen to him grunt and try for another shirt only for it to tear again and I laugh at the look of disappointment that flashes across his face. At the sound of my laughter he turns to me quickly, his eyes locking with my own.
His face still looks like one of disappointment and I keep laughing. This is a dream it has to be– I stop myself from laughing and realize the last time I thought that– it was not a dream then and this is not a dream now. I sit up slowly, my head pounding slightly from the movement and my hand comes up to touch it. No blood thankfully. I let out a sigh of relief and look at my zombie.
He remains shirtless with a ripped shirt in his hands watching me. His eyes are wide as he, I assume, takes me in. We stay like that with our eyes locked for sometime before he drops the ripped shirt he was trying to put on and stalks to me. I hold up my hands and close my eyes waiting for him to finally attack me, he just waited until I woke up to kill me so that I would be aware and present.
When I hear thud beside me and I don’t dare move, I instead wait for him to attack but as the minutes go by he doesn’t. He remains quiet and doesn’t even whimper, that has me set on edge. I open my eyes slowly, keeping my hands up just in case I need to fight him off but he is kneeling beside the bed that I am in. Did I get in this bed? No, I realize, someone put me here.
I lock eyes with my zombie, he put me here. Without lowering my hands, still afraid he will lunge at me, I ask, “Did you put me here?” His head lifts up just a tad bit in response and my eyes widen. He responded, I am sure of it. My heart is in my throat still worried he will attack at any moment. “Are you mad at me?” I ask quietly.
He doesn’t move or make a sound and I take it that as a yes, he is mad at me. I try to smile at him while keeping my hands up but my smile doesn’t get a reaction so I go with talking since he can understand me, I think… I hope. “I’m sorry I ran away?” I say more as a question than an apology, hopefully this zombie can’t tell how to disingquest voice inflections.
When he doesn’t say anything nor does he move for a few minutes I try again, “I’m sorry I tried to kill you?” Still he doesn’t move but it looks like his eyes are squinting at me just ever so slightly so I run with it. “So you are mad that I tried to kill you–” I say, lowering my hands slowly to show him I'm not a threat anymore. Because I can’t help it, I glance behind him and I can see my sword still lodged in the room's door frame.
This quick glance doesn’t go unnoticed and earns me a low growl from him. I roll my eyes and look at him, “look how was I to know you weren’t you? What if you were another zombie? What if you got dumber and tried to eat me? What if YOU DO decide to eat me? I don’t know anything nor if I can trust you. You saved my life. I get that but you are still a zombie.”
His head swings slightly by his chin to the left and stays there. “Is that a maybe? A no?” I ask annoyed and he swings his head to the other side. Okay… “So you won’t eat me?” I ask blankly and his head moves to face upward slightly. I hope that is a yes. “Why did you save me?” I ask, looking at his cleaner form. I have to admit that he is pretty attractive for a zombie all cleaned up.
He has a square jawline and his skin has black veins running under it. The virus.I take in his short white hair and wonder if it was white before the change. Not many zombies have white hair so does this mark him as different? I can’t help but wonder and so I just ask; “Was your hair white?” His teld tilts ever so slightly as if he is confused by my question and blinks ever so slowly. I will take that as a yes.
I look around the room once again to see that it is still light out and the sun is shining through the windows, so I must have not been out long then. My eyes come back to the zombie when he begins to whimper again and I know what he wants. I clench my legs together only to hiss at the ache coming from them. That’s right, I ran for two days from him. And look where it's gotten me. I try and ignore him but my body begins to recall the amazing orgamsim this stupid zombie gave me and starts to ache in another way.
I ignore it and shift my legs out of bed standing up and looking down at the whimpering zombie staring up at me. At this angle he almost looks like a fallen angel with white hair and large eyes. Though he is a much more fallen angel, with black veins and white eyes. “Get up,” I tell him. He doesn’t reply for a moment but soon moves to stand. He towers over me in both width and sheer length.
What was this guy a f*****g line backer? I ignore him and head for my pack picking it up and then stopping. Where will I go? I can’t just bring him to camp. “Hey guys meet…” I look up to him again, not sure what to call him. “Mark?” I test and then shake my head “no, you don’t look like a mark at all. I will find a good name for you.” I say absentmindedly.
I can’t leave him, can’t out run him. Should– should I kill him? I size him up and glance at my sword again earning my whimpering friend and snarl from his lips. I can try. I ignore his snarl and the sword for the time being and turn my attention to my pack where food is.
“I don’t suppose you brought the water with you?” I ask the zombie and to my surprise he walks over to where the three jugs of water are. Well on closer look two, one is empty. I look back at him with a frown on my face. “You cleaned yourself?” He again looks slightly up as if he is trying to nod and my eyes wander slightly down to his chest and even lower to where the muscles of his hips create a deep V.
The universe is not far to create a zombie like this. I don’t think anyone at my colony even looks like this, like a god. Well he more of a demon is a why and they are just fallen angels so I guess it makes a sense for him to look this unfair. I look back up at the zombie's face to see him staring at me with the barest of a hint of a smile on his black lips.
“Oh shut up.” I tell him and stalk to the closet. Once in there I grab a shirt and throw it at him. “Put this on.” I say coming back out. I turn around so I don’t have to stare at him a moment longer only to hear him shuffle and then riiiiiiiiiiippppppp. I hear the shirt tear. Turning around I see him with his arms half raised and a now ripped shirt hanging in halfs.
I sigh heading back in the closet and grabbing another one. This time I don’t throw this one to him but stalk to him instead with it in my hand. “Get on your knees.” I say ignoring how that sounds. He immediately drops to his knees startling me with how fast he moves causing me toI take a step back. He again looks up at me, his eyes large and white and I can also see desperation in them. That or it’s my own reflection back at me. I go with the ladder.
I move the shirt over his head and stop, am I really doing this? Dress a zombie? With a sigh I decide, yes, yes I am and pull the shirt down over his head. I only touched him when I cleaned him but that had the rag as a barrier. Now when the inside of my wrist brushes against his cheek and hair I don’t think anything of it until I have his whole head through the opening and the shirt rests on his large shoulders. He– he’s not cold. I have never touched a zombie before, well I moved bodies after they’d died but they always seemed cooled.
My zombie seems at least room temperature. Maybe they warm up like lizards or something. Maybe this is what marks him as different. My mind tells me. My zombie is different, much different, more human. I stand back from him just to allow me some space, “okay put your arms through the holes. He tries to do as I tell him but his movements are awkward and stiff so I take back the space I gave him and reach for one of his arms.
Again when my hand touches his skin, it feels like nothing, just slightly warm. I angle his arm to the shirt's arm hole opening and weave it through, then again with the other one. I get down to his level on my knees and pull the shirt down. It’s snug and you can tell he's got some muscle but it fits. Once the shirt is on the zombie leans forward towards me and I revolt backwards falling down.
He stops and looks at me sprawled across the floor. “You said you weren’t going to eat me!” I yell knowing full well he in fact did not say that. He only looks at me and his eyes soften a bit around the edges. I can swear that he looks sad. I get up and brush nothingness from my jeans just so I have some type of moment to make and pause.
I hear moaning, from outside. Heading to the window I move the blinds over and peak outside. There at least twenty zombies have formed and once again I am trapped. Now I am trapped at their level in a house. I think of the broken window in the living room and head dash towards it.
When I enter the living room I notice the couch is cramped into the window I had broken and that I should be safe from the other zombies. But for now I am trapped in a house of dead people.
