"Who is he?" Julian's voice is low, but it hits the room harder than a shout. He is still holding the affidavit in one hand. The paper shakes just once before he folds his fingers tighter around it. Richard does not answer right away. He watches his son the way he watches everything important, with that calm face that hides how much damage he is willing to do before breakfast. "You already know him," Richard says at last. Julian takes one step forward. "Name." Nathaniel moves beside me, close enough that I can feel the heat from his arm. Not touching. Ready. Always ready.
