“I can’t believe how fast they got the road cleared.”
Porter glanced over at Maggie in the passenger seat, leaning forward to take in all the changes. Her cheeks were flushed with healthy color and she looked happier and healthier than she had in a long time. “Beats having to hike in, that’s for sure.”
She flashed a sassy smile. “Oh, I don’t know. I had a really good time the day we did that.”
His body stirred. “I mean, it’s just us out here today, before construction starts. I’m completely amenable to revisiting that scenario.”
“Good to know since I packed a bag accordingly.” She jerked her head toward the backpack in the backseat.
“Little cold for that, isn’t it?”
“You did say the foreman’s office fireplace still worked. I tossed some firewood in the back of the truck.”
